Was randomly watching the highlights of the 2003 Syracuse/Kansas championship game. Sort of forget how stacked that team was, and how young! Other than Kueth Duany , all underclassmen. Had everyone stayed and Edelin stayed out of trouble, we could have had a little dynasty there. The other thing I forgot was how Duany Actually had a really nice game in the final— scoring about 11 points and hitting some big 3’s, as well as playing his usual good defense. He was a real present surprise as that season developed, especially after losing Deshaun Williams at the start of the season and with Edelin’s suspension.

Agreed. don’t get me started on this. The notion that Roy Williams and UNC got away with straight up academic fraud is so infuriating. I was kind of fuming the other night when they showed Huggins’ stats and Boeheim was on the list, short of 1000.

I don't disagree with the idea that he can improve ball security. But beyond fumbles, he has a track record of a lot of muffs and bad decisions, as best as I recall. In the one game when he returned kicks for us this past year, he almost fumbled the punt that he ended up returning for a TD, and badly misplayed another one that almost resulted in the ball hitting him and a turnover. That had to give the coaches a bit of heart burn.

I have some doubts that he will be the main return man this season, given his ball security issues. I could see them trying some other guys out to fill that role.

Illinois is the Big Ten team that really got the short end of the stick. Loyola should have never been a 8 seed. They are statistically a top-10 team in the country.

that’s really how everyone I know is getting shots— open clinics where they couldn’t find anyone high priority to vaccinate. i do conceptually agree with the priority lists though, and I think they have worked at vaccinating many high risk folks and health care workers and teachers.

Agreed re Guerrier needing to come back. But I am always wrong about this! In four years, Guerrier could develop a great outside shooting game and post-up game. It’s what Brissett should have done too.

Given what I perceive to be the failure of most state governments in rolling out the vaccines, I have the sense that the providers don’t care anymore. I sense the vibe is that It’s more important to vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible. We tried with the priority system— now it is “whoever can navigate the maze better,” wins. I had a debate with my wife about this. She has a really moral objection to line jumpers. I view it as: we just need to maximize shots at this point. Agreed. I would expect Kadary is gone after his sophomore season, and Guerrier is gone after this season. Guerrier could use another season, but I say that about everyone who leaves and am always wrong (Jerami Grant, Brissett, Lydon, McCullough). I actually have this weird feeling that Griffen may end up in the NBA.

Girard has been a real enigma his entire career at Syracuse, but something seems to have clicked these last two games. Never seen him play with such confidence. He was huge for us tonight. Not only with his shooting— but his D has improved. He’s handling well Against really tough pressure, and the guy is chasing down all sorts of rebounds— I think he had like 7 rebounds tonight. I think this team really needs him and Buddy to shoot well to actually continue this run. The only other consistent outside shooter is Griffen and he’s just a mess now.

They just choked away the game. Really bad offensive possessions down the stretch. I don’t mind playing Houston. They will be tough, but we are playing really well now. BTw, Brendan Haywood is tough to listen to— wow.

Watching this Houston-Rutgers game. Houston just crashes the glass. They get 3 shots every possession.

that pass/kick-out to Braswell Late was probably the play of the game, in my view. Two huge passes and clutch 3 on that play— at probably the most important point of the game.

imagine if Dolejaz had fouled out. He pretty much was the most critical Player down the stretch. Every one of our baskets went through him.

Great team win!! A lot of guys stepped up with key shots at important times. And the D was great— that McNeil Just went off. Not much more they could have done about it. but how about the officiating— woof!

my theory on the Big 10 being overhyped looks to be true. Every time there is a “super” conference, the seeds for that conference get way inflated. They just play each other and then the stats become “incestuous.” I think they have some good teams— but to have two 1 seeds, two 2 seeds, and a 4 seed, in addition to the other teams that made it— they were bound to be overhyped.

the random ad hoc way these vaccines are being distributed will be sort of interesting to study after the fact. I would like to see how the different states implemented their procedures. My sense is that mass decentralization down to the local level (county, town, borough) has been more effective than the states that have tried to centralize the process. it seems like everyone I have spoken to in a number of different states that have been vaccinated— that happened through a friend of a friend or some random referral or word of mouth, traveling to a remote Spot, etc.
