if you just look at his fumbles, it actually understates how bad he has been. He misplays a ton of balls too, which had led to near “touches” and muffs. It’s less of a fumbling issue with him, and more of a decision making problem.

i remember going to the Bills/Steelers joint TC practices a few years ago. It was so disorienting watching all the different groups at the same time. I always wondered how if you streamed any of it, whether anyone would even know what is going on half the time.

Same here. I feel guilty sometimes, but I actually steer my kids away from playing youth sports. My elementary school boys play basketball, but nothing else. I don’t really have the time to chauffeur them all around or kill our evenings and summers on youth sports. I figure they can mess around playing in gym, neighborhood sorts of games, and then if they really get into something later on, can see about getting them involved in a reasonable way. maybe this is old fashioned, but when I was kid, I didn’t do all these organized sports. I played pickup bball, pickup football, tennis in the park, backyard baseball. I did little league for a few years when older and some rec bball in middle school. i just don’t get the travel league youth sports starting from age 6. Seems like a waste of time.

hey, that’s why we are debating this! I would argue that Smith’s success was directly related to his stud oline (not to mention a pretty powerful passing game). Bettis played behind some decent lines, but nothing like the cowboys. And he spent his prime with Mike Tomzak and Kordell as his QB’s.

I agree that he plodded forward most of the time. I don’t think that made Emmett “special.” He was good and running downhill and through open holes. He was just a solid back, in my book. Not special in any way. Re those 90s backs, I would take Sanders, Thurman, Allen, Faulk, T Davis, and Bettis all over Emmitt.

Spot on. You just watched Smith, and he literally did nothing special. His vision was okay, speed okay, burst and strength okay. The guy just played a lot of years behind an elite line.

RIP. Totally forgot that he played for the Bills. Donahoe did bring in a few former Steelers on the tail end of their careers (CJ, Gildon). He had some solid years for the Steelers with Kordell and Yancey Thigpen as the other WR.

This is going to change this year, with a cook, Shakir, and Lil Dirty probably getting more involved in the passing game. Anytime I watch the chargers, I am always amazed at how often a little 1-yard dump dump down by Herbert to Ekler is an easy 8-10 yards every time. It would be great to get those easy yards all the time.

i remember this game well! In the late 90s, I would probably watch 90% of the Mets regular season games. in terms of dramatic moments involving the Mets, this one has to be number 1 for me. In 2000, Mets score 10 Runs in the 8th to comeback and beat the Braves. I remember watching this in the hospital (was there for a minor procedure). Totally improbable comeback.

it was like out of a movie, like The Natural. Gibson couldn’t walk and it was clear all day that he wouldn’t be available to play. He then comes in against the best closer of all time (who never gave up home runs), and hit the GW HR! Even though that was Game 1, I still contend that it totally changed the entire series. Momentum totally shifted.
