Week 16: Bills at Bears on Christmas Eve
Miyagi-Do Karate replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Agreed. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the Bears lead the league in rushing. -
Love the dolphins forum - Bills won because of the refs?
Miyagi-Do Karate replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall
I find that Vinovich crew insufferable, but think they were mostly okay yesterday. The PI call on McKenzie was super clear. If you want to complain, complain about the rule. I have never liked the rule of PI being called on an underthrown ball that the receiver comes back to. It’s almost impossible for a defender in tight coverage not to have PI in that situation. -

wow— / never knew that! Thanks! -
So epically Billsy.

supposedly, Frazier showed those teams. I believe it was reported that the bills did press man and dropped backers a lot in their loss to the dolphins— which was copied by the 49ers and chargers. my guess is that we didn’t press as much because our CB’s just couldn’t get clean hits at the line on their receivers. I also think concern at safety probably was an issue, with Hamlin back there. The Niners and Chargers can afford to be more aggressive because they have elite safeties.

Week 16: Bills at Bears on Christmas Eve
Miyagi-Do Karate replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
I said this elsewhere, but this game makes me nervous. Matt Eberfluss, when with the colts, really knew how to game plan for our offense and shut us down. Today, they seemed to be very effective in slowing Hurts. I think he is an excellent defensive coach, and knows how to gameplan his opponents very well. Bears are always in every game. -

Not doubting you, but I haven’t seen anything that analyzes the value of the stadium with a roof versus no roof. The only thing I saw was value of stadium itself, and then cost estimates of a roof. This is what I have read— again, maybe I missed it or there is something in another document: https://esd.ny.gov/esd-media-center/reports/preliminary-buffalo-bills-stadium-analysis And I do think more generally when you are thinking about corporate sponsors and boxes, you have to look regional for a team like the Bills— ie, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse. Finally, I think if cities like Indy, Detroit, and Minnesota are able to crunch the numbers on a roofed stadium to make it work, then Buffalo could too. Again, if it is more of a decision based on, “we want cold weather to impact games,” then, okay, that’s fine. But I still can’t fathom how the ROI would be better with an open air stadium versus a closed one, even if you tack on another $300M on the cost. -
If we must criticize, how 'bout Cam Lewis gets his share?

Hamlin’s main strength is not being Jaquan Johnson. -

The problem with Cam is he is a marginal Roster player desperate to always make a big play. He is playing for his career every play. Needs to try to play within himself and play smart. -
I mean “blacked out” in the sense that you have to watch a local game on a local station. If you pull up the Sunday ticket channel for the game that is locally shown, it is blacked out on that Sunday ticket channel and says you must turn to the local station. that’s no problem to do now. But how are we supposed to flip back and forth from a streamed Sunday ticket channel on Amazon to a local channel? It may seem like a first world problem, but it does diminish the huge benefits of having Sunday ticket— ease of watching a bunch of games at once.

not entirely lucky, IMO— catching a low cold ball like that isn’t easy. In fact, I noticed that receivers for both teams were bobbling a lot of the catches they made (Hill, almost every one). That’s why you run down there! Dolphins had 3rd and 1 inside 10, and threw it (sack); and then second and goal at the 4 and threw it twice. The one time they decided to keep running down there, they scored on that Ahmad TD. if I were a fins fan, I would be mad first at McDaniel! He lost them the game by being too cute. -
Devin Singletary not scoring a TD with 34 seconds left

this is a great point. We had been burned by two deep balls this game and a long run already. You want Hamlin out there playing “safety” in the snow on a deep bomb to Hill with 35 seconds left?- 408 replies

the irony is that they should be blaming their own coach. They lost because the boy genius hipster McDaniel decided to stop running Mostert when they got inside the 10-yard line. Had to settle for 2 FGs. -

Miyagi-Do Karate replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall
Ideally, would have been the better move. But “bonehead” is a little harsh. I think he thought he had the first down, and was off probably by 6’inches. If he goes too far, he risks getting pushed into the endzone too.- 408 replies

These “catch” replays are ridiculous
Miyagi-Do Karate replied to Miyagi-Do Karate's topic in The Stadium Wall
My mistake in the OP. Yes; It was called incomplete on the field. But that doesn’t matter. it is clear from how replay works, they no longer consistently apply the standard of “overturn only with irrefutable video evidence.” Just watch these replays on a regular basis and they are making calls basically based on what they see on the video regardless of the call on the field. I guarantee you they would have overturned that catch if it had been called complete on the field. in any event, my point is less with the decision and more with the rule of what we are looking for In a “catch.” -

I agree that Buffalo probably could never get a SB. But they could get more national sporting events and could generate more revenue from an indoor stadium than an outdoor one. Again, no one is building open-air stadiums anymore. You can build something with a roof for about the same cost of what the bills plan on paying. And if they love the idea of cold games, just have a retractable roof. I know this is beating a dead horse, but the new proposed stadium seems like such a bad investment. -
I was really irritated at the overturning of the McKenzie catch. You see this every week. Replays slow down the action, and then they unnaturally analyze these catches frame by frame and examine the millimeter movements of the ball. Anyone with any common sense or who has played sports realizes that these are true catches. I feel like replay and the catch rules are ruining the game, and not rewarding players for some really terrific plays. I think the rule needs to be that if the receiver gets two feet down and has firm control of the ball, that’s it. All these minor movements of the ball or touching of the ball to the ground are irrelevant. They don’t need to defy common sense to implement the current bright-line rule that isn’t really working now.

Our ST were atrocious: 1) gave up a big KR 2) did poorly on two KR 3) let a punt roll down to the 1 4) roughing the punter 5) on a punt return, we were called for two holds (by supposedly our best ST players in Taiwan and Neal) ( not to mention the near muff by Hines there on that last punt catch either). -

McDaniel playcalling inside the 10 was comical. Mostert is looking like Bo Jackson out there and they stop running in the red zone. -

I would argue that the dolphins didn’t dominate the second half; we just made some bad mistakes for much of the half up until the last few drives. Consider: 1) first offensive drive fizzled on bad second and 1 run, and just a miss on an easy out on 3rd down to Gabe. 2) bad punt fielded and ball at 1– field position killed that drive 3) nice drive killed by three consecutive penalties on our oline. 4) cam Lewis roughing call, undid a stop and led to a TD. 5) great catch by McKenzie ruled incomplete by refs killed another drive. So much of this game is execution. Bills executed on their last two drives And won. -
