Agreed. Damar held his own last year under some tough circumstances. There were some good film clips from cover 1, as I recall, showing him play really strong in run support. I think the Bills are going to be patient with him and his up and down preseason based on what they saw out of him last year, and the need to give him more time to get back from the heart scare.

To your one point, I do believe this is now becoming more of an “expectation” and I can see coaches and teams saying they don’t care what the league says if this happens in the regular season.

We have seen now three NFL games that have been canceled recently. The Bills/Bengals game due to Damar’s injury. And then two preseason games where a player suffered potentially serious injuries where stretchers were called. what are your thoughts on this? I definitely get the cancelation of the Bills/Bengals game, since that was so unprecedented and really a life or death situation. I am less sure how I feel about the other games, and I wonder whether we will see more of these team-initiated cancelations during the regular season. There are obviously major scheduling impacts, but also there is some real decency and humanity to halting games when someone gets seriously injured. Pretty tricky situation.

the problem is how our team and offense is built. It’s not like we are the Niners, where they can plug in a semi-competent scrub, since their offense is entirely run-based with playaction. I just don’t think it is worth fretting over backup QB’s. Outside of a few, they are all going to be in the same boat. For us to win some games with a backup, we would have to win with defense and a strong run game.

Josh Allen is like 85% of the offense. If he goes down, doesn’t matter who the backup QB is.

maybe I have a bad memory, but I can’t recall a single time he has made a play like that. But I can remember several where he just missed on those plays. I do think he seems to have taken a step up though as a defender.

Agree completely. A few responses. 1) I loved the Sherfield signing. But I have been surprised at how much bigger he plays than his actual size— showed some of that yesterday when he played outside. 2) Neal has popped off the field all preseason. But can we trust him? He has really disappointed in prior years when given chances to get on the field on defense. And I still think he is only a meh special teamer (eg, missed that chance to down a punt inside of the 10 yesterday that most good gunners do regularly). 3) if Damien Harris stays healthy, I think he is going to end up being the main back in any time share. Just brings way more downhill running to this team.

I thought Hamlin actually looked really good. He seemed to be so fluid and comfortable out there on defense. In very good position in coverage. Got his nose in there on several runs. The low block penalty was possibly the dumbest call of the game. It seemed like he was just trying to get in there to tackle, and hit the blocker on his waist.

Can someone explain the first two Barkley interceptions? I don’t know what he was thinking on either of them.

same with the illegal block on the screen. I was at the game and saw it from the same angle as the ref who threw the flag, and it looked way too close to call. On replay, it looked clean. Sort of got him in the shoulder. you take away a few of those penalties, and at least the bills starting O has a TD and we feel Slightly better about the game.

By the way, was that really hold by spencer brown on that long throw by Allen? That looked like a play they don’t call 9 times out of 10.

I think Tre got called for PI on a third down and gave up an easy completion on another third down…. both against second string players.
