  1. The Eagles got Vick for nothing, they can let him go in free agency for nothing. They're in the playoff hunt, so unless they get a 1st, 2nd or early 3rd rounder offered for one of their QBs, there is no need to trade Vick or Kolb...really Vick. Kolb may have won the job back yesterday.
  2. Buffalo Bills = Island of Misfit Toys No one wants to come here unless they have no choice.
  3. He can run for his life.
  4. That's the problem, there is no LT that is #1 worthy. You look at various mock drafts, and they have 2-4 OTs going in the 1st round, and most are later in the 1st. Anthony Castonzo seems to be the top LT prospect.
  5. Agreed on Spiller. He was brought in to energize the fan base and sell tickets (like T.O.), not to eventually build a winner. Until we start stocking the OL and DL with studs, this team will go from mediocrity to complete failure, if we're not there already.
  6. Brady backed up Brian Griese his first two years and then beat out Drew Henson to start his final two seasons at Michigan. J.P. Losman lost his job to Trent Edwards because they won with Edwards. Tom Brady displaced Bledsoe because New England was winning with Brady. Hmmm, winning. QB did not have anything to do with it? OK, sorry we're talking college vs. NFL. You are absolutely right about McCoy, but Stevie Wonder knew he sucked. Bradford was a winner in college and had pro talent. Leinart was a winner in college and had a pathetic arm. People missed out on Cutler as a losing QB in college, but he took a very poor Vandy team (0 for the SEC) and led them to big upsets his Senior year and he put up huge numbers against the best conference in the nation. He had a cannon of an arm at Vandy and he made a difference by stepping up against tough competition. You look for difference makers and if it leads to wins, fine. College is different from the NFL. It is more than winning you're right, but when you see a QB with exceptional talent and he wins or makes a big difference, I think you'll do well picking him. It also takes a good head on his shoulders. That's where Cutler will probably fall short, and Leinart definitely did. Many variables go into making a good NFL QB. Locker's skills do not stand out, so for people to say the is the most gifted QB in college is a stretch. Why not Ponder? He's rated right there with Locker. I sure hope Luck or Mallett come out, then we won't have to worry about Locker. In the grand scheme of things, I'd rather see a QB that can step up in big games rather than a QB that goes 4-20 against a good team in his home stadium. At least he should make a game of it. He should make a difference in the game if he's that good.
  7. I'm talking about Sarkisian coaching/training QBs. He probably has a big hand in training Locker as a QB, but OC Nussmeier was also QB coach for the Rams, so he has NFL coaching experience too. UW has had some lean years in recruiting, especially Sarkisian's first year, but they were #28 in recruiting last year. The Pac 10 is a tough conference and UW has a tough schedule, but the Pac 10 is more like a track meet, similar to the Big 12. It should be offense friendly. You're right, the Bills are beyond risky picks. Is there a sure thing, no, but they can't afford to reach for a QB that has all the tools but is raw. I still don't believe Locker is raw though. He'll have better training than almost all D-1 QBs. I'm praying Luck declares for the draft. May be too much to hope for considering he's a redshirt Sophomore.
  8. Brett Favre played for Southern Miss., but he was able to almost single handedly pull off an upset over Florida State, despite not having the best record. He took a small school and made them competitive against bigger and better teams. Jim Kelly did not have the greatest record, but he led Miami from obscurity to being a national power. Yes, natural ability has much to do with success in the NFL, but you have to show you can win in college too. Can you honestly think of a QB with a losing record in college that did well in the NFL? Steve Sarkisian is Locker's head coach at UW. I equate having him as head coach to Brady Quinn and Clausen having Charlie Weis. Locker has been trained by an NFL coach so he should be NFL ready, but his college numbers are above average at best. Locker is pure hype if you call him the top QB prospect. Cassell, he didn't even play in college, so he was a complete unknown. No real basis there, agreed. At least Locker has had a chance to prove himself.
  9. This fact alone should be damning enough to fry Kiper. ESPN needs to fire him. The NFL obviously listens closely to Kiper judging from Clausen's freefall.
  10. Here's a stat to consider about Marino at Pitt: 42-6 Much better record than either J.P. Losman and Trent Edwards had in college. The Bills might want to also consider whether the QB they're drafting can lead his team to wins.
  11. Judging from the last 10 years, unless we take a CB in the 4th, it will pretty much be a bust. Easley and Nelson...the jury's obviously still out. Marcus Easley Shawn Nelson Reggie Corner Derek Fine Dwayne Wright Ko Simpson Duke Preston Tim Euhus Terrence McGee Sam Aiken Brandon Spoon
  12. Seattle did get a bargain. When will the Bills trade for a bargain? I think the last one they pulled off was Leonard Smith.
  13. Locker is not a #1 overall. Mallett is a junior, Luck, a Sophomore. If Locker is the only QB available in the draft, we go OT. I still think we go OT this year, and get Luck next year. This is not a 1 year fix, especially if we keep drafting prospects and positions where we're already well stocked. I actually like Kellen Moore from Boise State, if he were to come out, but not as our #1 overall. Ponder is not putting up NFL caliber numbers to be considered as anything more than our 2nd rounder. The more I look, is there even an OT worthy of a #1 overall?
  14. I watched the game (obviously) and he did look better than Jarrod Johnson who some thought might be a sleeper candidate. Weeden will be a product similar to a Texas Tech or Urban Meyer taught QB in the spread. I don't think his game would translate well to the NFL.
  15. The Bills idea of building a team is through signing UDFAs and hitting the jackpot. Pat Williams, Jabari Greer, Fred Jackson and Jason Peters. The Bills UDFA's have outperformed their draft picks lately. Who needs a high draft pick?
  16. People might say Evans would be worth it because he's under contract, but comparing his numbers to his hefty contract, we'd be very lucky to get a 3rd. Our ineptitude in the front office is beyond belief. We're stuck with marginal players and growing bad attitudes. Since 1997, we've spent 4 1st round picks and one 2nd rounder on RBs. We've spent how many on OL in that time? Two (I think), with one being a huge bust. Can't even mention how much we gave up in the draft to get Rob Johnson, Drew Bledsoe and draft J.P. Losman. We have provided the blueprint for how to f up an NFL team, even worse than Detroit.
  17. Why would a team trade with us when Ko Simpson is available. He used to be worth millions!
  18. Chan Gailey was not wanted either, so he and the Bills were a match made in...(can't say it in reference to the Bills). More than likely, Cowher has his eye on the New York Giants or Carolina. He knew this was a suicide mission and didn't want to put up with an inept front office. Gailey had no other choices. Coy Wire (there was a whole thread dedicated to his Atlanta radio appearance) has said it publicly, as diplomatically as possible. Others say it by asking for their release. We have gone through numerous coaches, GMs and faux GMs, and the owner and his close front office cronies remain. Put 2+2 together to see that Ralph's lack of leadership or horrid leadership is the root cause. He hires the GM, coaches, overpays for marginal free agents, has his front office draft or sign a player to make a splash rather than build a foundation for a team. Are you serious in still asking "How does everyone know that the problem is Ralph?"?
  19. There seems to be a pattern formed here. Incognito, Pisa Tinoisomoa (assumed), Mitchell, Evans (he's just quit playing), Cowher and many others didn't want to coach here. As long as Ralph Wilson owns this team, Buffalo is football purgatory, just like Pittsburgh is baseball purgatory.
  20. Polian was not hired as GM right away. They fired the old GM after Polian, as acting GM, drafted Bruce Smith and got Kelly to sign, as well as bringing in Marv Levy as coach. The Bills got lucky because their old GM had a heart attack, allowing Polian to step in and show his NFL knowledge.
  21. Because of the salary cap. Wire plays a role, special teams and fill-in LB/DB. He's a class act and well liked in Atlanta. Jim Leonhard was cut, and now is a contributer with the Jets on special teams. These guys serve a purpose, and can play other limited roles. We're now questioning why certain guys are on other team's rosters? Really? Yes and yes
  22. I really don't think Mallett is worth a #1 overall, considering he will be playing behind a crappy line. (crappy Tackles, actually) We need the LT first, in my opinion. You look at QBs that have won as rookies, Roethlisberger, Brady, Sanchez, Marino were all playing on teams that had established winning records before they arrived and these guys were just icing on the cake, so to speak. The one exception that I can think of where a QB taken with a high draft pick that came in and immediately turned around a losing record was Matt Ryan. We need to surround any QB drafted with good players. If we don't, they can be like Archie Manning, a good QB on a crappy team that runs for his life his whole career.
  23. We have to build the line first. We have the interior set fairly well, but we need that stud LT and a good RT for that matter. There is a possibility that Mallett could stay in school, and I would expect Luck to stay at Stanford. In the meantime, Fitzpatrick could get us to 8-8 behind an improved line next year. This is not going to be a quick fix. We are looking at a team with ten years of poor drafting and poor free agent movement. The Jets had a great line in place when they got their QB. That is how you build. You don't draft a QB and let him get his brains scrambled because of little to no protection. I also agree that Luck is the only can't miss prospect, after seeing Mallett against Bama this past Saturday. Bryant McKinnie was there and the Bills f'd up. Tom Donahoe would have taken Ryan Leaf had he been in that position in 1998.
