?? The percentage for Benford's cap space seems to be missing, right? -
Benford Extended 4 Years - 76 million
Mister Defense replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wow, a bargain now and of course even more so in the next few years, averaging less than 20 million a year for one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Very surprised and happy by the contract, that it was done and at this price. I think Benford will live up to the contract and continue to sharpen his game, becoming an all pro. Beane is kicking kiester by getting all of his up and coming young players signed to new long term deals. Now, Cook is essential. I cannot imagine how he is feeling now, the last high quality young player without an extension. And maybe the best of the bunch. Beane needs to get this done, and sign the player that helped Allen and the Bills' offense rise to their potential . They cannot take all of these steps forward in the off season and then a huge step back by not securing Cook. A big miss on Elam, but Benford makes up for that in a major way. -
Bills had the best free agent class according to ESPN
Mister Defense replied to BILLS55's topic in The Stadium Wall
Nice to see and I agree with most. A good off season, and now the draft is vital to a championship run of course. But he has it all wrong on Palmer. The Bills did not pay Palmer much more money than they paid Hollins to be a role player like Hollins. He is penciled in as the starter, which I thought was obvious-? I think he will be a high quality starter and have his first 1,000 yard season next year, as Coleman also has a nice sophomore year. (But I also thought a similar thing with Shepherd two years ago and Samuel last year, so keep that in mind. Law of averages?) -
But they really are that, a team on the rise. Maye was one of the best young 1st year quarterbacks I have seen in a while. And huge upside. To me they are the team that may unseat the Dolphins for 2nd place in the East. Good, as the Bills need a team to push them in the division and overall have not had that in a while.

Russell Wilson to the Giants
Mister Defense replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall
I don't think he is toxic, as we have not heard that really during his career, though we did hear he tried to get rid of Carrol. More like a dunce, than toxic, it seems. Cannot read a defense well or think on his feet well, even after a long career. But good point, Winston and then draft someone. I think Wilson is an insurance policy only and period. He will clearly never lead a team to the playoffs again, as he cannot do almost anything in the middle of the field and has only one pass that seems to work. -
Russell Wilson to the Giants
Mister Defense replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lol, no, I don't think he does! He is not in a position to have much leverage over anyone at this stage in his career. If Pittsburgh does not sign the nut, then where will he play?? So Pittsburgh holds the cards, in my view, as they will still be playing next year, a head case QB or not. But he may not ever play again if they don't sign him. Pittsburgh sucks at creating an offense, obviously, so he may end up there. But if Pittsburgh pins their hopes on a narcissistic head case, two years after the jets joyously (for Bills' fans) did so, someone stuck in the pocket, with nowhere to go but down and throw picks, then this will likely be Tomlin's last year in Pittsburgh. But I hope it happens--one less AFC team to be concerned about next year. -
i laughed when I read the line above, now in bold. As it appears that is literally true! Great news for us though, on a Tuesday night in March. I hope that he is their best wideout...
-
Yup. So, loving it like all Bills' fans should be. This should motivate McBeane even more to get two high quality cornerbacks now, starting caliber--and to sign Benford finally.
-
Oh my God! What a shocking contract! 23 million on average a year! With $26 million guaranteed! For a 31 year old diva wide receiver, coming off an ACL injury. I have heard that the pats are spending freely, and not well, as if the $ was burning a hole in their pocket. Paying diggs what almost amounts to premiere wideout money! A fantastic sign for the Bills and their fans that the pats may not know what they are doing.

Russell Wilson to the Giants
Mister Defense replied to Mike in Horseheads's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bye, bye, Daboll and GM. By Halloween. That is, if Wilson starts. Their only hope now is to get a top QB in the draft and get him ready. Or, 2-14? Wilson is done, has been for a while, of course. -
While clearly a homer, as she almost has no choice considering her position and experience, Maddy Glab seems like she really does her homework, knows what she is talking about. Some in this forum can take a lesson from her on that.. She has gotten much better over the years, as one would expect with someone early in their career and in this position. Shows her commitment to her craft and the Bills. Funny how so much of the criticism is about more superficial things, such as the sound of her voice etcetera. Overall, it seems that a certain percentage of guys rip into almost all female sports reporters and broadcasters simply because they are women.

Yeah, that has definitely been proven to be false over the last few years, hasn't it? The Chiefs make huge changes in their defense, win the Super Bowl the next two years, despite a lesser offense, personnel. The Eagles, over night, in one off season, create a new defense, with a new coordinator, and immediately become the #1 NFL defense. And win the Super Bowl the following year. No way anyone can look at these two examples, over the last two years, and think defense is the key to a championship.

What say you there? The question starts with an "if" indicating some thought is going come at the end of the sentence. It doesn't, so can you clarify what your point is here? What is the missing thought, point of that question? But yes, Tasker is almost a mess on there now that he has become so involved in promoting the Bills the last few years. Last year, he was adamant in his defense of Dorsey even as it became glaringly obvious a change was needed. Then, after that, he seemed to forget what his position was, praising the move. Maddy is good, seems to work hard at what she does, but yeah, a homer. Chris Brown is more objective, seems a little less focused on always trying to put the Bills in the best light.

To see that, so many touchdowns, and such incredible balance (hence, Josh has his best year, duh) combined with the most points scored in the league, 612!, should sharpen their focus like a laser on now getting the best 3-4 defensive players they can in the draft. They should take their ten picks and make them 4 better picks instead, moving up strategically to get the kind of defensive players needed to immediately improve the defense. Kansas City did it in one draft and so did the Eagles. They both won Super Bowls the following year. The Eagles were ranked 30th in defense in 2023. In 2024, they were the best defense in the league. By far the best defense. By almost 40 yards per game. Where there's a will there's a way.

Yup, and the Bills could do more of the same, though they do that pretty well overall. Makes sense, if done wisely, because the cap seems to be exploding anyway. So makes it less risky, less likely the bottom will fall out down the road.

Keon Coleman FaceTimes Josh Allen - Funny
Mister Defense replied to Warriorspikes51's topic in The Stadium Wall
Great. Thanks. Only wish that Coleman gave Josh a little more time to say something directly to the troops. These two better be spending an inordinate amount of time together this off season, practicing as much as possible, and hopefully with at least 1-2 of the other wideouts when possible. And I don't mean 1-2 weeks.. Because if Coleman has the kind of year it looked like he was going to have before the injury, the league should be on notice. -
Your OP loses all credibility with that statement, now in bold above. KIncaid has never made a "tough" catch!! But I assume that this was just posted in the heat of the moment, after the very depressing loss.
-
Why do you have the 2025 offensive expenditures here, a season yet to be played, and one in which we do not know what the actual $ spent or outcome will be? Without the numbers for 2024 doesn't it make the last question you ask in your OP irrelevant? And the other questions too would be much better served with the 2024 numbers--folks will be focused much more on what the last season revealed, than one that has not yet been played. Can you clarify this, give the actual 2024 money spent and add a new post in the thread maybe? As I looked online and could not find it exactly. But I did find the offensive offensive expenditure for the Bills' offense at the same time last year. In March of last year, the Bills ranked 20th in the league at $116 million for 2024 offensive salaries. Of course, I do not know what the final figure was. An excellent idea for an OP, but the 2024 offensive salaries will make things much clearer, and make it all more relevant.

Actually the Bills were the highest scoring offense last year, in the regular season and playoffs combined. That is what the poster was referring to. The Bills were #1 in the league, with the Eagles 2nd at 608. The Bills scored 612 points. Hard to believe that number when I saw it--over 600 points!
-
Well, I do not think the Bills had the "best everything" last year, as they had a paper tiger of a defense, poor at stopping 3rd down conversions, and at giving up big plays, and not good at stopping the run. I was not happy with this, but figured they would muddle through until next year, with the high level offense rising to the occasion. (I always want my team to have a great defense. When I was born my mom took one look at my mug, saw this in my eyes, and hence my name.) They were a team that was at the very least in a big tweak year, if not a mini rebuild. But they made it to the AFC Championship game, and were leading the two time defending Super Bowl champions in their own house, late in the 4th quarter. They did that with a defense that was not high level, clearly in need of major changes in the secondary and defensive line, something Beane and McDermott are well aware of. And with those clear and obvious defensive problems, they were a whisper away from winning the game and heading to the Super Bowl--without their best CB, one of the top corners in the game, and without their best starting safety. Those were tremendous obstacles, as they were playing against the three time SB champions and two time MVP, someone most already consider to be one of the top 2-3 quarterbacks in league history. It is a game, and sometimes the ball doesn't bounce the right way. But with this Bills team, with a better defense next year, and an offense on the cusp of greatness, it is hard for me to imagine them not being the team to beat in the AFC.
-
I think almost everyone who watched this kick a*s offense last year would agree that adding a fast wideout who could get down field and separate would take it to another level. Once they get that, in my view, they may become the best offense ever. Without it though, they still may become that this year, but less likely.
-
Shoot, after reading this post I wonder what would happen if the Bills had good talent on offense... Would they be better than the 2nd best scoring offense in the NFL, as they were last year? Or better than one of the best points per drive in NFL history? Maybe then the Bills would be able to beat the elite teams, at least on occasion, like the Ravens, Lions, Chiefs...? I would love to have that happen, just on occasion, as they always come up short when they do play the better, elite teams. Maybe next year Beane will get some talent on offense that can beat a high level team, or two, score a slew of points, and challenge for a championship. But looking at last year, and his history, who would ever be that naive?
-
That last question is flat out stupid, at least from what it appears to imply. Why put that there? If anything, it is clear they are getting great value. And why not give us the 2024 $ allocated instead, as that is what the post seems to be about, right? We have no idea what will happen in 2025 on offense. In 2024, they scored 525 points, second in the league, almost 31 points a game. They had one of the best offenses ever in the NFL in 2024 and it looks like it will be even better in 2025. Brady's second year as OC, and a better wideout room, with more experience and better talent. IMO. If the 2024 number is the same, we don't have it in the post for some reason, then it appears Beane is responsible for a tremendous bargain.

Best coach since Marv, and one of the top coaches over the last decade in the NFL. Loaded with integrity. Happy Birthday, McD!
