This Will Be The Make Or Break Year For This Regime
Mister Defense replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
Wow, I want to apologize--you are clearly being very objective in all you say above. You are clearly just stating the facts and NOT letting your clear hatred of McDermott be the main filter through which you see and analyze all things Bills. I have highlighted some of the points in your post, see above, that most helped me to change my mind and so now respect your objective, rational, and NOT irrational and hate driven takes on what you say... You are clearly not hating above, not slamming the haters list of hate against McDermott against the wall, hate that we have all heard on this board from the tiny percentage of haters. Instead, you are clearly, calmly, and with a very even hand, just laying out the facts. In fact, almost nothing you say can even be questioned or interpreted as hate filled irrational subjective bias. -
This Will Be The Make Or Break Year For This Regime
Mister Defense replied to H2o's topic in The Stadium Wall
You lose all credibility in the 2nd sentence of this long post: "dismantling of the Bills", "the 13 second game" and 'best' of all, "the recreation of wide right". Don't let your love of McD get in the way of your objectivity!! 2nd best line: "3 OC's in three years" One became a head coach--should he have turned it down just to stay with McD and the Bills? McD then fired Dorsey because he was incompetent and the made the Bills look like a 2nd rate offense that could not score in the first half and regressed rather than improved. Should McD have let that mess fester more? The only game the Bills lost after Brady took over was an overtime game in which they scored 34 points. Yet, you lump that in, along with the comical "recreation of wide right", the most negative seminal moment in Bills' history, clearly showing your post is just an irrational diatribe, filled with extremely irrational hate. Just throwing a bunch of nonsense against the wall, and, yeah, it will stick to the brains of the tiny percentage of like minded Bills' 'fans' on this site. But the vast majority will react to those lines and this post in the same way I did. The draft, with 100% unproven players in every pick, for every team, is the perfect place for the haters, of course. -
Umm, have you watched any Bills games the last 6 or so years? The high quality safeties were a seminal reason why this team, and this defense, almost never skipped beat--they remained one of the best, stingiest defenses, in the NFL for most of that time. Their safeties, Poyer and Hyde, were a cornerstone. So, I guess I will just say, "Duh", get a good safety. It is a tough position to do very well--they, just like good running backs, are absolutely not a "dime a dozen". \
-
I agree. Though I don't know much about some of the later picks, they could very well have picked their #1 WR, a co #1 RB, starting center, and (soon to be) starting safety. That would make it a fantastic draft if that pans out. Throw in a likely soon starting DT, a quality pass rusher and linebacker with all kinds of upside +++ and it may end being the kind of draft that prevents the Bills from taking a step back this year, which many expect because of their significant player losses.
-
The ability to run the ball well, after not committing to it, in two of the last three years made the Bills almost unbeatable. There was a clear, salient shift in philosophy, and yes, likely 'requested' by the man you despise, Sean McDermott. It made the Bills better on offense, as they became a more physical team capable of doing what they wanted, no longer a one trick pony, no longer super predictable. Bravo to Bean for getting a running back earlier in this year's draft than most expected, a top notch WR 1 and a likely new starting center. All men chosen there will further develop the tough, physical nature of this team, one that better matches its leader, Josh Allen. Glad to see that our leaders on the team get it, get how vital it is to have a multidimensional team capable of imposing its will on teams, no matter the defense they face.
-
The Chiefs became the contender they have been once they made the run a priority this past year. The Texans switched to Singletarry as their started and started to run the ball MUCH better, and so made it a more integral part of their team. They became the talk of the league, as their young QB then really took off. The running game was vital to those playoff teams last year, and most of the other ones as well. It will be so this year again; the movement toward smaller linebackers and safeties the last few years meant the running game would take on new meaning--teams not buying into the tired already old cliche that the running game is an after thought--see Ken Dorsey--will be left behind.
-
yup, extremely foolish to say that the running game is not a VITAL part of almost any successful team's success. And even more to say that it is not and has not been so in recent Bills' memory. Have you been out of the country two of the last 3 years, during the 2021 and 2023 seasons? Did you notice how much better the Bills became after 500 ish starts--and that the main, obvious, biggest change they made each of those years that turned them into contenders when it looked like they were after thoughts? Just because you hear some very ignorant football analysts discounting the run, and saying those illogical, stupid and cliche things about the running game, that it is almost a thing of the past--watch some games next year, and see with your OWN eyes how important a good, great running team is to the success of almost all teams. Notice how some of the few weaknesses in Allen's game seemed to disappear when the running game took off? I assume the answer is no here too. Very foolish... Only the teams with better than average running games will contend in the AFC this year.
-
Such a foolish, illogical take when it comes to the discounting of the running game in today's NFL. I know it is a very small percentage of those on the board that think that, but they are loud and vocal, giving the impression they are the majority. They are not, not by a looong shot. And thank our lucky stars the leaders of the Bills think the exact opposite thing. The Bills are doing the right thing by continuing to build their running game. In the last three years when they decided to (forced by McD?) run the ball like they meant it, they were almost unbeatable. They became the best running team in football and almost never lost again in two of the last three years. That is one of the best things the Bills can do to make Allen, and the Bills, reach their potential. Blind not to see that, understand that. But overall, a good, detailed analysis of each pick, though I think you are very wrong about Davis not "moving the needle". He will be a very important player this year, may end up taking over as starting rb, enabling Cook to become a much more lasting, and even more dynamic part of the Bills' offense.

On the contrary, the Bills did a superb job of building this team around Allen in this draft. One of the best, if not the best, in the Allen era, and it may very well go down in history as such: --They got what they considered the best receiver for Allen and the Bills, as Allen himself said--he got the receiver he wanted. That, to me, eliminates my concerns with Coleman. I believe the Bills and Allen know much more about him, and the kind of fit he will be for the Bills, than any media personality and me. --They got one of the best running backs in the draft, a great compliment to Cook, a MJD type player who runs hard, and like a bowling ball, catches it very well, and is the kind of tough, physical runner the Bills need as they continue their quest to be one of the best running teams in the NFL. And one of the most physical. --At first I had thought they likely got their center for the future in the 5th round, or a possible center, one they would try to develop into a starter. BUT then I read more and more about Granger and one analysis after another thought this guy was ready to start from day one. If that happens, and he is good, look out... --And finally, they acquired two late round tackles to develop for the O-Line. A starting caliber wideout, running back, and center, and this from a team that had a wave of departures on defense. Hard to believe anyone would disagree that the Bills continued to be very focused on improving Allen's supporting cast for the 2022 season. If those picks alone pan out this will be one of the best NFL drafts this year.

Rd 5, Pick 141: C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
Mister Defense replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
Most analysis on him say he can likely start now, on day one, in the NFL. So I assume your post is just trolling, just sarcasm? If not, you are a foolish hater, acting in utter ignorance. -
Rd 5, Pick 141: C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
Mister Defense replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree--if he is good enough. If so, this is an amazing pick, a starting center this year, in his first year, picked in the 5th round! If so it changes the dynamic of this team immediately and the Bills may end up not skipping a beat this year... -
Rd 5, Pick 141: C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
Mister Defense replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
From Fox Sports: "Summary: They simply don't come much safer than Van Pran-Granger, who checks every box there is at center, from both a tangible and intangible perspective. He isn't a perfect prospect by any means — he gets beat occasionally, too — but the team that selects Van Pran-Granger will be doing so on Day Two with the expectation that he can challenge for the starting center role immediately." So, our new starting center? This year? -
Rd 4, Pick 128: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky

Likely--not any more... -

Lol, as the Bills desperately needed a running back, and this kind of bruiser is just what they need. -

How dumb is this?? -
Rd 4, Pick 128: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky
Mister Defense replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
I wanted a Maurice Jones Drew type, said it on this board, and while Davis may not quite be that he is similar-- low center of gravity, just a bit taller than the 5' 7" MJD. Runs like a little bowling ball, like MJD. And catches the ball well too, like MJD. Seems to be the perfect counter to Cook, the slight, smooth, glider who can break one at any time, with Davis the tough, physical, hard hitting, bowling ball. Davis, if used well, and I have confidence Brady will not do what his extremely incompetent predecessor did--and use his players, even his young ones, like they should be used. A very good physical WR, good physical safety, likely future starter at DT, and now a quality physical running back. The Biils are becoming the kind of young physical team that relates better to their fearless leader, Josh Allen. Hallelujah. -
Rd 4, Pick 128: RB Ray Davis, Kentucky
Mister Defense replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall
An illogical thing to say in general. No one would say that for any other position. It is just buying into the 'conventional wisdom' that says running backs are a dime a dozen and no longer vital. Last year the NFL disproved that, with running games becoming more prominent. Next season the trend will continue. The Bills and many others really like his game and character. He is a little wrecking ball who can catch the ball as well. Well worth the pick, can make a difference this year. -
Who do you want with our first pick in 2nd?
Mister Defense replied to Back2Buff's topic in The Stadium Wall
Had wanted Mitchell but today heard he had type one diabetes, so Dejean. We are too weak at safety now, which has been a strength of this team since Poyer and Hyde. Need to bolster that considerably, and before the season. But want a wideout like Franklin, even if Beane needs to move up in round two. I think these two things may happen. But I also would not mind a new center such as Johnson Powers-Johnson. If the Bills can get these three players, or something similar, then they would go a long way in addressing team needs. If they can do it on Friday, in one night, that would be even better. (The next pick should then be the best running back available, a big, fast bruiser who can catch the ball too.) -
One of my happiest days as a Bills' fan, at least when it comes to a competitor's move, was the day the jets signed Rogers, a quickly fading, narcissistic head case. It meant HUGE money tied up in a player who would never come close to challenging the Bills, and one team wrecking head case added to one of the three teams in their division. Now, he just gets worse and worse, crazier and crazier, and is as dumb as a box corn flakes. And throw in 'despicable character' to boot, and I assume all attending the Jets game are looking forward to letting that nut have it, and relentlessly, when he comes to town. I hope he keeps exerting his power and control over his team--and also takes a cue from Brady and plays many more years...
-
May be, but I hope not. He is possibly the best defensive player on the Bills. Dawson Knox is a more likely trade candidate, I think, especially if it helps the Bills move up to get the player they want--and if the team is willing to pay a high percentage of Knox's salary.

The criticism of Josh Allen
Mister Defense replied to ChronicAndKnuckles's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lol So, nothing! You have nothing, again, to back your statement--just a bunch of general nonsense? Yikes, and almost funny--if this exact kind of behavior wasn't becoming a way of life for about 30% of Americans. -

So, no information, facts, details forthcoming. Instead, more of the same--what does this post mean, what are you speaking of, specifically?? -
Report: Micah Parsons act is "wearing thin" in Dallas
Mister Defense replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Never said he was terrible, said what I said about him in big games, and against good teams, including being less than a zero factor against the Bills this year. He is Jerry Jones kind of player, lots of splash, publicity, but, so far, not a big game, big time player. See: Dak Prescott. -
Report: Micah Parsons act is "wearing thin" in Dallas
Mister Defense replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Lol Yes, the Bills were terrified of such a dominant player, so just desperately ran and ran (as you say, 'away") from him. Parsons played a great game, but the Bills were just clever enough to keep away from that powerful, immovable force that is Parsons. I am reconsidering my position and now think the Bills merely got (very) lucky this past year against him and the girls, and were just somehow able to 'run away' from Parsons, getting monumentally lucky they were fast enough to keep away from that dominant brute. It is terrifying to think what the girls and Parson will do to the poor Bills the next time they play each other. No, it shows his greatness and that the Bills just lucked out--don't worry the girls will almost assuredly come through the next time when the Bills aren't so lucky..
