  1. SW CT (really all of CT) has been overrun with bandwagon Pats fans over the last 20 years. Kind of a shame. And people don’t tend to talk to strangers as much as in other places.
  2. Good call by the Don. “I spent my whole life trying not to be careless. Women and children can afford to be careless, but not men.”
  3. That Steelers-Bengals playoff game he and Pac-Man threw away is still one of the high points of NFL entertainment over the last several years. Maybe he’ll try to decapitate Brown again in practice.
  4. The late 80s was a glorious time to be in NE with the Sox and Pats* sitting at zero titles.
  5. That's the key to a good silent auction -- you need to understand what you can get to auction off (and what your audience can afford to spend), and especially identify the people/groups who can/will donate the marquee prizes. Then fill in the volume from local businesses and others.
  6. Yup. I wore Bills stuff skiing last month in CA and got several shout outs.
  7. ‘Now with end of the world discount on the back end of your subscription!!’
  8. LOL....I was gonna start with that but figured it wouldn't be much help to the OP! To your point about the Bishop, you have to know your audience. If you're fundraising from a Denny's crowd, go cheap and take what you can get. If you are targeting people who will spend, you make it an appealing destination to get them to show up, and add an open (or partially open) bar to get them to loosen the purse strings. A few years ago in CT my wife raised >$100k with a silent/live auction night ---- for our public elementary school. No sob story cause there; we just needed a new playground, ipads in the classroom, etc., etc. Didn't hurt that the average household income in room was probably $200k and you got Type A guys into dick swinging contests bidding on someone's ski house for a week. I'd always target the booze at those things figuring I'd do no worse than pay retail anyway and not look like a cheap ass.
  9. -Connections to people/businesses who can/will donate stuff. -Lots of people in attendance who will bid on the stuff.
  10. Out of all the people who have ever posted here, you probably rank dead last at knowing how to ‘get stuff done’. But always good for a laugh gatortard.
  11. Yeah, that’s generally the best time to buy title insurance.
  12. In the absence of any social media pics (pretty disappointing we don't seem to have those), I'm sticking with my assumption that '25 year old phys ed teacher' is pretty low-risk.
  13. HEAT: At home during day: 68-70 At home whilst sleeping: 62 Away from home: 60 AIR CONDITIONING: don't have it, don't need it
  14. Yup; he’s part owner of Sweetwater now, which moved a couple blocks from the original location that you went to. In fact, I saw the former owner from those days recently died. Both Weir and Sammy Hagar live up the mountain from our house so we see them around town or driving by occasionally. We love it here; clearly it’s changed over the years but still retains a lot of the old vibe (especially Bolinas).
  15. Sometimes I see him driving by.....he lives on my street. He joins in unannounced on stage now and again at the local music hall where he's part owner but I haven't caught him there yet.
  16. Right around the time FA and the draft became a 3 month event and the internet was invented.
  17. If Beane can’t sign every player I like to an affordable, low-risk contract he should be fired!
  18. Unfortunately for Jimmy, he has all the sincerity of a Clinton and is still better suited to do the Man Show than late night TV. He'll never be funnier than Fallon and he can't beat Colbert for the TDS audience. But he did manage to move himself to a level above trash like Silverman, so good on him.
  19. Nothing better than C-list has-beens desperately flailing at another 15 minutes of attention.
  20. I’m struggling to understand the problem.....it sounds like she was doing a bang up job!
  21. Anyone with a brain has very little sympathy for the Clintons. Even liberals can’t stand them at this point. But still, you can’t put a price on the high comedy of the Clintons not being able to understand or accept why the crowd is no longer falling for the same old tricks. ‘What happened?’ - LOL!
