  1. Odds are IF the Bills and Lions want to trade up, it will cost big to move up. There is "no bargain" in moving up into the top 3.

From 9 to 3 and 10 to 3, the Bills and Lions will have to wager several future picks...most of them over the course of 2-3 years and they will be high draft choices.

Now, IF the deal goes down expect it to be for Sammy and a deal similar to the Julio Jones deal.

    Enjoy the next 48 hours

Miami gave up a 2nd to move into the top 3. I don't see the Julio Jones comparison. Atlanta moved up 20 spots. I'd say Atlanta won the trade. Miami moving up to 3 looks like a flop right now with Jordan being a non-factor.

  2. I have to agree with C.Biscuit97 on this one.

Duke? Really? You act like that's some major accomplishment.

Duke played 14 games last year. Of those 14, Duke held the other team to under 300 yards exactly 3 times.

6 teams scored 30 or more points against Duke.

Troy (frigging TROY!) put up 31 points and 362 yards against Duke.

Pittsburgh: 58 points and 598 yards.

    Duke's football team scares nobody.

In the same respect wouldn't that make another offensive player in Jake Matthews overrated? The same thing can be said when guys are labeled system players. A&M had Joeckul taken 2nd last year. Matthews will be a top 10 pick this year. Ogebehui will be a top 10 pick next year.

With that said I don't think Matthews is over-valued. I think he's the best OT in the draft and Robinson is over-valued. Still wouldn't touch either in the 1st rd. Then again I wouldn't touch any offensive lineman in the 1st.

  3. If that were the case then why wouldn't they make a deal with the Eagles who clearly wanted him. The Bills refused to even converse on the subject.

I think Spiller could still be a dominate primary back if utilized properly...a bulldozer he ain't!

For who? If it isn't for an Andrew Luck type QB then its 3 wasted first round picks....and a 2nd. Since there is no Andy Luck in this draft, Whaley couldn't be this lame.

Exactly. His best season most would agree he was underused. The idea of a primary back as was even 10 years ago is gone. Rather than compare him to maybe the greatest RB ever and how he was used; Hackett should study how Westbrook was used in Philly. The Bills have one game breaker on the team and that's Spiller. Where he was drafted is held against him as if it was his fault the Bills took him with Jackson and Lynch. Running backs aren't getting huge 2nd contracts.

If Spiller wants to hit free agency he's going to have to have an enormous year. Other than that it'd be in the best interest of him and probably the team to get something done.

  4. My thing has been this. For more than a decade.

I think "draft value" is kinda stupid in the first round (other than RB of course - never ever take a RB in the first round. Ever. Seriously). People say "oh, you cant take a RT or TE or OG at 9," etc. I understand its a risk/reward thing. But if you cant find good players (meaning you cant properly estimate the reward), then hire better scouts.

If you look back at past 1st round drafts, maybe 10-12 of the 32 guys turn out to be worth anything. If you think you know who one of those guys is, take him. Whether you pick 1, or 9, or 25. For example, look at this "crock-of-shtt" draft. There arent really 5 guys worth a damn in the first round:

    http://www.nfl.com/d...aft?season=2008

And if you tell me that Kiper-types said "oh, flacco isnt a good value at 11" or "Ryan Clady isnt good value at 11" I'd say you're stupid. Again. Only a handful of these guys will be worth a damn. No matter where you pick, if you think a guy will be a true NFL player, take him and never look back. Seriously, scroll through the first 3-4 rounds of that draft and really see how much garbage there is.

If you draft enuf guys who are worth a damn, regardless of position or Kiper-esque "value," and hire decent coaches, you will soon have a good team.

(I guess this is another way of saying to take BPA, almost regardless of position. And I kinda trust Whaley to do this. If he thinks HaHa is the best true NFL player still remaining at 9, i'll try my best to be cool with that)

Jake Long, Chris Long, Matt Ryan, Clady, Rodgers-Cromartie, Talib, Mayo, McKelvin, Albert, Flacco, Brown, Chris Johnson. All twelve are decent players. Guys like Mike Williams WR, Aaron Curry, Glenn Dorsey, Michael Huff, Robert Gallery were "safe" picks or in some cases listed as BPA by some draft "experts."

So draft good players and you're going to have a good team? I'd say draft a good QB and everything else will fall into place. Like the previously mentioned Matt Ryan turning Atlanta around after that team being a disaster.

  5. im not sitting here saying anyone that thinks he is good or going to be boos is crazy. I realize I'm in the very limited chosen few that thinks he will be a disappointment. But that's my opinion.

Fwiw, the experts all thought the following guys were can't miss coming out of college:

    Matt Leinart

    Vince young

    Jamarcus Russell

    Ryan Leaf

    Aaron Curry

    Vernon Gholston

And let's not get into the guys that all the experts thought would be terrible and ended up producing in this league.

I recall Robert Gallery, Jason Smith also being can't miss. Gholston was thought of as a risk.

  6. Bringing in competition for the backup QB position shouldn't be a big deal. I'd explore options. I look at what Seattle did a few seasons ago when they signed Flynn, had Jackson, and drafted Wilson. Competition for positions should be a good thing.

  7. I dont agree with either point.

Matthews and Robinson would step right in and be studs for at least 4 years. Maybe All pro studs in two or 3.

Lewan has question marks. But a trade down might make me feel better .maybe .

Glad to hear the perception is mystery. Thats a good thing i bet !

Unless i misunderstood you and your least favorite pick would be Lewan at nine ?

    Then i apologize 242

Lewan would be the guy I'd hate at 9. I think he'll probably be the pick and won't matter.
