Why has One Bills Drive been so quiet?
JoeF replied to Mike32282's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Anybody have access to the flight schedule for Ralph's jet...that is more reliable than the cabby on March 2nd... -
JP-E your point of view has legitimacy, but I would offer that we have let guys like Price, Winfield, Wiley, Washington, Cowart go and their demands have been cited as the issue.... TD and Ralph aren't taking the Snyder philosophy of making it work to get whomever they want by mortgaging the future--Ralph already went through that trying to keep the nineties team together by signing the fringe guys to way over market deals--TD has made other mistakes--his judgement on a couple of key decisions has not panned out (Gregg Williams, Drew Bledsoe)--but if this team ever contends -- it will be for the long haul because of the cap management strategy that has been developed...just my opinion--we agree to disagree I guess.

It would be interesting to know the offers made to Jonas and Pat before the 2004 season began. Schobel's offer seems to have been much more competitive and while Aaron's sack total was down this year--his run stuffing was much improved, he forced 5 fumbles, plus he has never missed a game in 4 years. Jonas Jennings, as has been well chronicled, has missed games every year--and much if it has to do with shoulder and ankle issues--I wonder if something potentially chronic is developing -- he averages somewhere between 3 and 4 missed games a year. He is above average when in the game and not hurting but he has had games where he looks awful -- usually either before or just after missing a couple. This is not a guy I would think demands Tait/Diem type money, let alone Pace/Jones or Ogden type bucks to be honest. We need a replacement, but we also have a lot invested in the line already -- we need to get both a starting LT and LG out of a cap number that Jonas would want for himself. Pat Williams is the proverbial warrior. Very durable, play disruptor, etc. But I watched Ron Edwards a lot this year..especially in the Dolphins home game where he spent the day in the Dolphins backfield..He is not Pat Williams when it comes to being the immovable object--but he has some skills that can offer consistent push. Pat is 32--his tackles this year dropped by 30-40% from the previous two years...and the Defense overall is a lot better than when we let Ted Washington go 4 years ago...Pat is not worth $5 million a year to us...he may be to some other team that needs to upgrade their D, but for us, we have invested in other areas of the D (LB, Secondary in particular to upgrade)--we need to have a cheaper DT that has come up through the system and we need to invest in making our 3rd down Defense better--(pass coverage LB, another corner, pass rusher) --which is something Pat had little influence over.... I will miss Jonas and Pat--but I think resigning them to big contracts are more like "Jerry O and John Holocek" moves than they are "Moulds, Schobel and Pat Williams first extension like" moves.....

Thomas Andrew F welcomed into the world today at 11:45 AM. At 8 lbs 3 oz...he remarked-- "Dad, Tom Donahoe and Drew Bledsoe broke up--don't put them back together in my name!" Bills fan ranks increase by one. Mom and Dad are very proud....

Jane, you ignorant slut.... -
Dallas is a unique football market.....patience is not a strong suit of Cowboy fans and instead of having a state bird or tree I believe they have a state armament (just kidding Aussie)...somehow I think a couple of box scores like: 14 - 30, 176 yards, 4 sacks, 2 Int's, 1 TD, 1 Fumble lost isn't going to win a lot of fans.... I wish you well #11 and fear for your safety....your saving grace is that you inherit a 6-10 team like you inherited a 3-13 team here... How Bout them Cowboys!!!!

That second loss to the Pats should count as two losses.....

Doesn't seem like there was much of a rift between Parcells and Jones on this issue. Its a good situation for Drew....an emerging TE in Whitten, a aging but decent three deep receiver corps in Johnson, Glenn and Morgan (if Glenn is healthy) --- but the book will still be blitz, blitz, blitz...

Hell we even ran off Dwight Adams' daughter when we had the opportunity. Jeez everything she said turned out to be true.....Thanks Freester for sharing.....

He's blocking Denny -- how hard can that be :-)

Tommy Maddox--part of his secret plan to play for the Bills next year.

I have the opposite take. TD would want to keep a story like this out of the press. Stuff like this would cause "Are the inmates running the asylum" type speculation and "How long did they let King Drew pull this kind of stuff before they did something about it" type questions. Just different interpretation I guess. The fact remains that we did screw up the wind direction--King just points the finger at Drew...and if TD were going to leak it-I think Lenny would have gotten this story--espn.com gets immeasurably more hits than SI.com..
-
I was thinking the same thing AD--imagine if Matthews or Losman had come out with the O the first series....First off--the server would have blown.... The thought had to cross his mind... No wonder we played like we were in a freakin fog.....when your QB can't even get the coin toss right--
-
Michael Munoz--son of Anthony Munoz...the same Anthony Munoz that has a son/father relationship with Bills OL coach Jim McNally---
-
Some of Peter King's best writing in a while. The coin toss story is just mind-boggling...Mularkey had to be pissed. Kind of makes you wonder if the "we wanted to keep him here as JP's backup" comments were all BS... Okay--so bring on JP .....

Mad--I wondered this as well, but I think a positive sign with regard to Coach McNally's feeling about Shelton is that the Bills brought him in for a physical. McNally has almost a "rain-man" like knowledge of lineman in the league--I think he knows Mr. Shelton pretty well- The only thing that worries me is that if this goes down--both our tackles are big but susceptible to the speed rush...but man is Willis going to be excited about running behind these two mammoth mastadons...
-
Wing -- Shelton is like the bachelor prince and Az is the king telling him whom to marry...there is a similar article in the St. Petersburg paper today quoting Shelton's agent as saying he would love to join the coaching staff of the Bucs. Shelton also loves the Bucs If we want him, we can get him. No one else is going to offer Az. an established, multi-year 1200+ yard rusher for him--and they are the decision maker. From Shelton's perspective, no one else in the mix has one of the top 2 or 3 Offensive line coaches in the game. Noone else has his cousin on their team. This is the courting phase -- and we are the most vivacious girl from several perspectives. We are Cinderella-- Do we want him is the question....

Tom--we have 5 total--2 that were adopted from the Alexandria, VA animal shelter 13 years ago--all 5 seem to have it out for me.......hmmm--Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep...If I should be killed by cats before I wake--I pray the Lord my soul to take.....
