No matter how you slice it....this offseason
JoeF replied to Rudyc80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
we're all billsfanone...... :-( Rudy, I luv ya man. You are Eeyore from the Winnie the Pooh characters. Go out and drink a green beer tonight or several green beers. In two weeks something will happen that will restore your faith. Its early my friend. Rick DeMulling is not the second coming of Jim Richter or even John Davis.... If I ever meet you the first cold one is on me...people need to do some nice things for you. -
John--I have no scientific evidence...but when I am running 7 days a week...I feel more limber than when I back off and I feel less joint pain and seem to have more energy during the workout. I think there is something to conditioning your body to get used to a stepped up routine that avoids injury but I am not an exercise physiologist... I have a good friend who is a sports med specialist--he says the most important thing is to listen to your own body--it will tell you what you can and can't do. .don't listen to the folks who tell you don't run or workout every day... don't know if this helps--but my guess is the better conditioned your son is for the short burst activity of football the less prone to injury he will be..

Mike Williams sighting at the Ralph?

In other news, The Bills announced that RG Chris Villarrial will shift to LG this year and Mike Williams will play both RG and RT. -
The treadmill work saves a lot of wear and tear. A couple of tips... 1) Trash the insoles that come with the shoes--it amazes me you can buy a $150 pair of shoes and they spend about 10 cents on the insoles. I buy a super cushion insole and insert. I change insoles about every 8 weeks or so--shoes 3 x a year. 2) Stick with one brand and one pair of shoes over time. I am a New Balance 856 guy. Stayed with this model for about the last 3 years. Those would be my biggest col...

7 days, 45-50 miles, treadmill 5 days, road 2 days....have to save the wear and tear on this old body....

I would concur Mark. One thing I haven't seen mentioned on this board a lot is how well Aaron Schobel played against Pace this year...6 Tackles & Assists and a couple of behind the line tackles on runs. He didn't fare as well against Jones from a stat standpoint but got good pressure all game.
-
When the Poston's represented him, they wanted $25M+ up front. After Pace fired them, he said he would settle for something around $17M. This deal is in range of what Walter Jones received. Jonas got what--$36 Million for 6 and $12 Million up front...for $10M more contract value (projecting Jonas to 7 years) and $3 Million more bonus--49ers could have had the best....
-
I think once the contract is signed...the Rams would have to take an immediate cap hit for the bonus if they trade Pace..

The Bills should pass on taking DeMulling

How could I forget Gandy...thanks LB...I think we can succeed at LG the current options-- Your line-up doesn't scare me when I consider the following... I think we used this line a couple of games last year that we won.. Price--Smith--Tucker-Villarrial-Williams and we had this line on the field a couple of times and did not implode Price- Tucker - Teague - Smith- Williams... We need good depth not one high priced guy but 3 medium priced guys... -

I am coming around to the fact that the Bills can't solve our remaining OL issues through top line FAs. We have invested a lot of cap room already into Teague, M. Williams and Villarrial. We don't want to compromise our future ability to keep the young core of the team -- McGahee, Evans, Schobel, Spikes, McGee, Clements and maybe Kelsay and Losman together because the Bills weighted too heavily in the OL. I agree that the OL is important but I think buying Free Agents at top dollar is not going to be our strategy. It will hurt us in other areas of the team. We have two starting positions up for grabs and depending on how we address those a third starting position could need attention..here is where we are with each position: LT-Teague will be tried, possible trade for Shelton, Peters will get a shot LG-Tucker, Smith, Bannan and Esposito all in the mix now--we need a cheap vet to throw in here. C-Teague is the incumbent, Tucker showed well here during the time Teague was out--a rookie draft choice will help and there is good interior line talent by several assessments in this draft. RG-Chris V is solid RT-Mike Williams showed good improvement and hopefully will launch from there in 2005 The right side of the line is solid--they pass protected and run blocked well particularly the last half of the season. I wouldn't mess with this. We need to add three players to the mix for the left side of the line and center. Trades, post June 1 free agents, 2nd to 5th round draft choices are the most cost effective strategy for doing this. This strategy will let us get 2 or 3 guys for the bidding level and cap hit that DeMulling will command. I agree with the assessment that blowing the budget on DeMulling and then depending on rookie free agents or street free agents at the minimum to fill the other holes is not smart...for the same cap hit we could probably get: a second or third round C a veteran tackle cut after June 1 due to cap issues a trade for veteran G We need to be patient..... -

Thanks Hammered--I guess he will be there on Monday.... -
Is that post season 2005 Clump or is that now? Thanks--even if its this year--add $400K to each year's amoritization on the second contract and we still save $600K..if its after 2005--more reason to sign him now.

I was counting on a small hometown discount. Nate likes Buffalo--he has stated that its close to home for him and a good situation. Even if we adjust the Bonus to $12M and the contract value to $35 million we still save money this year. 1 $2 M B, 500K salary $2.5 M saves $1 M off this year's cap 2 $2M B, $3M Salary $5M Cap hit 3 $2M B, $4M Salary $6M Cap hit 4 $2M B, $4.5M Salary $6.5M cap hit 5 $2M B, $5.5M Salary $7.5M Cap hit 6 $2M B, $5.5M Salary $7.5M cap hit I think he will give us some discount... One thing to consider--the cap has been growing by 4-5% per year...by year 6 of this contract--2010--assuming the CBA is similar to this one--the cap is $113M... Make the deal now for market value....don't screw around with young, foundation talent that wants to be here..
-
It would actually reduce this year's cap hit to redo Nate now...his cap hit right now is $3.5 Million...if we sign Nate to a 'market deal' say $32 Million over 6 years with a $10 million SB......hit would be something like 1 year 1.67 M Amortize Bonus, $500K salary - cap is $2.17 M (Savings $1.3 M) 2 year 1.67 M, $2.5 M salary cap is $4.17M 3 year 1.67 M, $3.5 M salary cap is $5.17M 4 year 1.67 M, $4.5 M salary cap is $6.17M 5 year 1.67M, $5.5M cap is 7.17M 6 year 1.67M, $5.5M cap is 7.17M

Mike Williams cap figure continues to bother me
JoeF replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does it bother me that Mike Williams' cap figure is higher than Orlando Pace's...yes it bothers me..... We should extend him for two years. Essentially making this a 5 year deal. Give him $8 million more up front converting this years, next years roster bonuses to signing bonuses and giving him an additional $2 M to extend. That means we have to amortize the $2.17 M per year in old bonuses for the next three years and $8 Million in new bonuses over the next 5 years...that's 2005 $2.17 M old bonus, $1.6 Million in new, $3.2 Million new salary (maximum) 20% cut...this is $6.97 which is a savings of $2.2 Million 2006 $6.97 Million 2007 $4 million salary (20% cut), $2.17 M old, 1.6 M new--$7.77M 2008 $3 Million salary, $1.6 M bonus $4.6 M Cap Hit 2009 $3 Million Salary, $1.6 M bonus $4.6 M Cap Hit Dunn has got know that Mike has already gotten his cash in day...his first contract was his cash in..he should jump at something like this for someone who is going to be a career RT.... Its hard for me to blame TD for this one--we have been over ad nausem what our options were and this was the slotted contract for a #4--but man we could sure use relief. By the way--I hate giving the guy an extra $8 M but its a way to relieve a bit of this problem...I hope the last 10 or so games of 04 were just a taste of how dominant this guy can be..if it is -- he may be worth this redone deal. -
He is not on the roster BGIM ---so put Jasen Esposito in his place ---I love Jasen Esposito--I think he can be a serviceable inactive every week type player... http://www.buffalobills.com/team/player.jsp?player_id=122569

The panic reminds me of dear Dorothy. "Auntie Em, Auntie Em............." There are many free agent miles to travel....heck off season workouts don't even begin until next Monday.. Right now 2 deep we are probably LT Teague Gandy Peters LG Smith Bannan C Tucker Sobieski RG Villarial McFarland RT Williams Gandy McFarland It would be nice to add two more veterans and a rookie to that mix...Free agency is less than 2 weeks old....
