Are Shelton and Anderson the right type of OL?
JoeF replied to JoeF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tucker Tucker in 04 2 sacks and 5 penalties in 16 games (12 starts).... .58 ...not bad He had significant playing time in the other 4--so you could almost say .45 Ruben Brown... Ruben Has been above .75 the last three years.. This is pretty darn good way to judge VA.... -
OK Big Mike W. Put down the Jelly

Are Shelton and Anderson the right type of OL?

Thanks VA. I have never seen either play much... -
If we want to mix in another power back...how about this guy? http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1140 Vet minimum--will only cost $450K or so against the cap.

It seems from reports that both Bennie Anderson and L J Shelton are straight ahead blockers with limited mobility. That may be great for running between the tackles. However, if Willis's speed returns and with JP's mobility, are either the optimal type of lineman for the additions to the scheme we are going to make? Do they have the stamina to run the no huddle when we move to that pace? Think about this--Teague is pretty darn mobile, so is Chris V and so is Ross Tucker. One of the things that impressed me most about Mike Williams the last half of last year--was his ability to get out wide and downfield quickly once he got in some semblance of shape the last half of the season...I am not sure about Shelton but Anderson may never show this skill or stamina. Gandy does have this skill. This may be some of the hesitancy with acquiring either Shelton or Anderson. If the scheme adjustments involve more off tackle runs and roll outs, its interesting that they did not go harder after DeMulling, who is very mobile.

Bledsoe....contradicting himself on ESPN
JoeF replied to mtdoak's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Gosh, its almost as if he still plays for the Bills. I like Drew. I like what he and his parents do with the foundation. I like the fact he is a dedicated dad who builds treehouses for his sons and loves his kids. But he's a Cowboy...I could care less what he says--and I hope we kick the sh-- out of him and his team if/when we have the opportunity. -
157 years ago Niagara Falls stopped flowing
JoeF replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Great story Labatt. Does anyone else remember in the late 60's or early 70's when they dammed the Falls to check out the rock erosion--they diverted the water flow to the Horseshoe falls. I can't remember the exact dates..but I do remember my dad taking me (I was 9 or 10 at the time) and him pointing out that the rocks at the base of the falls were as big as our house...... I see it -- it mentions the 1969 shut off in the same story at the bottom. -

According to the draft value chart the 44th pick is about 110 points more valuable then the 55th pick. This mean's TD is bascially requesting the equivilant of an early 4th round pick and Shelton for Henry. The way to even this out is to throw in our 5th or 6th rounder to make this deal. So the trade would be something like Az. trades Shelton and its second round pick to Buffalo for Henry, the Bills round 2 pick and the Bills 6th rounder. The Bills still get significant extra value and the Cards get some return to even out giving up 11 spots in round 2. As to what the Bills want--well they want flexibility. Having 11 more players available when they pick gives them this flexibility. The DL needs one more interior player to compete, particularly if Bannan is going to focus some on Offense--we need a rotational player to add to the top 3 (Adams, Edwards and Anderson--sorry Indy Dave--I know Sape should count...) and if we acquire Shelton, the Bills should look at interior OL talent. I think the replacement for Clements is already on the roster....his name is Troy Vincent, who still can play corner well in 06 and 07 I believe. Rashad Baker will be ready to step in for Vincent after this year. If we go away from the interior lines on O and D for the 2nd round pick I would look at WR, TE, RB as the priorities. Moulds will be cut after this year unless he redoes his deal again in the '05 offseason, a great TE gives JP an outlet and Willis' injury history still scares me...

OT- I owe my new life to stevestojan

This is just outstanding. One person is driving the WNY economic renewal and the remigration of the Northeast right here on TBD....Thanks Steve...I think you may be up for chairman of the Fed when Greenspan retires. -
I think Shelton plus two high picks sets the Bills up well for the future....

One thing people haven't considered much is that Shelton is not going to be on the Cardinals roster. Exactly Kelly.... TD has the leverage here with the Cardinals and he is going to play it. The Cardinals have already rebuilt their tackle position this offseason with the signing of Oliver Ross. They have played their hand and Shelton is not part of their plans. I think the Bills actually like Shelton but they know he is likely going to be available whether they do this deal or not. He may not come to Buffalo if he is cut loose so the certainty of having him is probably worth something and either way we get him (waiver or trade)--it will probably be under a deal that has less cap impact this year than the current $3 Million because we will redo the deal to fit with current cap situation--turning some salary to bonus and spreading the impact over the remaining years of the deal or extending a year or two. We should get more than Shelton for Travis. The Cards have made their moves and Shelton is more expendable to them than Travis is to us. We will find a buyer for Travis--and I don't think Travis' comments (driven by his agent) hurt our position that much--the logical suitors (Cards, Bucs, Browns, Phins, etc.) are still there.....and Travis is the best experience/price/performance ratio on the market.

Honestly WTF is up with all the Henry bashing
JoeF replied to zevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am a TD supporter...but when he says stuff in the media like "We won't give Travis away" he is viewed by most as a great negotiator. When Travis and his agent, Hardly Everhard (Hadley Engelhard-stolen nickname from Mike Doser) start spouting off in public about TD not accepting what they view as a fair offer, its Travis being disloyal or dumb idiot Travis being controlled by his agent..... See this for what it is..all part of Travis getting a new address and the Bills getting something just a tiny bit more than what is on the table right now.... Don't bash a guy who played with a broken leg.....come on... -
You just named 5 guys who we put into the lineup during seasons when we did not make the playoffs and a few when we went 3-13 and our talent was down. There is a difference between desperate necessity and reloading. The Patriots build on a strong core which we now have. The loss, particularly of Pat Williams is less devastating now than it would have been 4 years ago...we have a supporting cast to cover for a new starter while they learn. Don't think the Patriots didn't adjust the scheme this year to adapt for inexperienced corners-but they have the talent to make that ajdustment. So what's the real impact of this... 1) We don't sign a D-Lineman to replace Pat. 2) You see us only trade or sign one Free Agent offensive Lineman (Shelton or Anderson look like the candidates) and draft or promote from within to fill the other slots. (Clarify--we need three offensive lineman right now who can compete for starting positions--LT, LG and C (Depending on what we do with Teague)...we know what Tucker offers and while he is good--his best position is probably depth)...
-
The Pats will eventually come down...but I'll take 3 of 4 any 4 year span for the Bills. Its amazing they have been able to keep the "core" egos in check for that long or find replacements for those who were injured, jumped ship or they got rid of. Harrison for Milloy is the best example. The corner situation this year was a good example...but it also makes you think--what if we had to put our draft choices into a situation like that..these guys are all talented football players--who says a Tim Anderson won't kick ass once he gets in there or a Tim Euhus won't be good or even a Dylan McFarland... You can't continually buy talent at the refined end of the spectrum in free agency and expect to succeed--you have to develop your own sometimes.

Looks like no comp picks this year
JoeF replied to HurlyBurly51's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Confirmed by bb.com--no comp picks http://www.buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=3137 -
Great move by the Bills. We have to get this world class owner a Lombardi trophy...he could have cashed out this asset a long time ago to the highest bidder--but instead he has stuck with the area and has benefitted greatly from a loyal fan base who tend to buy tickets through thick and thin. One question, hey Clumpy -- how does this effect the cap

http://www.buffalobills.com/ Look at the picture... He is one big man....doesn't look happy about practice though..

The old days of "messenger" guards before QB radio helmets....I like it a lot. Back to the basics... Seriously, Willis would be very happy to have Williams on one side and Anderson on the other....

A big man--who has been a starter for the Ravens since day one... Bennie Anderson 2004 Scouting Report - Football Scouts Inc. Name: Bennie Anderson Position: Offensive Guard Grade: 70 | Key Alert: None Comment: Anderson has very good overall size and is an interior mauler. Has great size and is capable of wearing defenders down over the course of the game. In pass protection, he shows good awareness, does a nice job of recognizing the blitz and flashes the ability to pick up line stunts. Has a wide frame and uses his arms to force pass rushers to take a wider angle to the quarterback. However, Anderson has very little range and he needs to lose some weight to improve his mobility. He lacks the quickness to be effective on pulls or traps, doesn't show the ability to change directions quickly and is a liability in space. Lacks an explosive first step and will need help when working against one-gap pass rushers. Overall, Anderson has gone from a marginal starter that needed to be upgraded to an adequate starter on the rise.

Dawg--i started at 5.5 or so and no incline four years ago--after 10 years away from running and gaining 50 lbs.. now my training runs on the mill are at 7:30 pace (8.1) and varying the incline between 1 and 7 to add spice to the run...I usually get in 7 miles in 52 minutes of run time--do a 3 minute warm up and cool down on each end of that....again--its taken me 4 years to get here...I have lost 40 lbs of the weight I put on since college... The other thing i didn't skimp on was the treadmill--bought a health club quality one for home...one of the nicer Keys fitness models...i have beat the heck out of it..3500 miles in 20 or so months--but it is still in great shape... Jester--you are my hero man--you will get over this rough patch and be back at it....I never knew how much I missed running during those 10 years of couch potato city and now I think I am hooked for life (however long the big man upstairs gives me).
