Verba getting some interest from Buffalo?
JoeF replied to The_Real's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Verba's home was alleged as the site of two rapes. Verba was never considered a suspect in either case. I am sure this will be a subject discussed...sounds like a questionable posse with which Mr. Verba hangs. I could go for something like this... 2 year deal....$1 M signing bonus.....salaries $750K year one; $1.25 Million year two -- if he checks out health wise...add about $500 K in incentives each year for snaps, post season recognition, off season workout participation... Cap hit this year would be exactly the open slot we gain with Travis... this is a lot more than anyone else is offering...We need another veteran no matter who starts. the depth is very, very worrisome..the competition on the line needs to be better. I would welcome him. Allegation One Allegation two -
Thanks for the link Nanker. Week 2 of the 2003 season, our last 300 yard passing game. I wonder if that is the longest streak in the league...30 games. Glad this Henry situation seems to be working its way to conclusion.

Taylor workout good, still interested in Henry

A couple of thoughts on helping the Jags.. If the Jags weren't a playoff contender, they probably wouldn't be giving serious thought to meeting TD's asking price. The reason Floyd Reese balks at giving a 3rd (upped to a 2nd with performance) is that he needs all the top 100 draft picks he can get to rebuild a team depleted by free agency/cap hell and while Chris Brown is not a top tier back--they have huge needs elsewhere. While Travis is a good back--he is at his best when his team has the lead and the clock is being milked--he seldom if ever broke a long run that turned a game around. Also, there were probably 3 drives a year during his two prime years, where we relied solely on Travis to move the ball down the field in a critical situation. Taylor is a game breaker. Longs runs and long drives where he got the majority of the yards are regular staples for the Jags offense--that element is still missing. Travis will be better than Toefield but the Jags O will still be missing major pieces. I agree that helping the Jags is a concern--but having another high pick in next year's draft when we need to begin to look at restocking a defense with some younger talent makes me feel a lot better about that. If this goes through we also gain some flexibility on the cap to address the Oline if training camp reveals some flaws. -
God bless those in London who were impacted by the bombing and their loved ones. Also, the children in Iraq who were killed in the candy and ice cream line yesterday. At a time when we all needed to laugh or we would continue to cry, DeNiro did this bit to open Saturday Night Live...this is from December 2002. The past week has reminded me that we all need to be alert but we also need to live life, laugh and not be afraid. DeNiro - State Department Spokesperson Sorry for the annoying popup if you get it....

I think you are both closet members of PETA.

I would say Kraft made a deal with the devil -- but he and TD don't talk that much.

Belichick's on the outs... Do you think Bill Belichick's separation from his wife will lead to any other Patriot relationship announcements?

Remember Del Rio is the coach who put the axe and block of wood in the locker room and Hansen almost cut off his leg...I think at the time Del Rio called it a minor injury.... Just give up the sure third upgradeable to a second Jack and Travis will be all yours. -
Coach Del Rio speaks Pertinent Quotes: “I was very encouraged; the fact that he's gaining strength and he's able to do the cutting and the acceleration he's going to have to do to be Fred,” Del Rio said of his evaluation of Taylor's workout this past Monday. When spring practices ended on June 22, Del Rio told reporters he would observe Taylor in July before the start of training camp to determine what Taylor's availability would be for camp. Following Monday's audition, Del Rio has put together a plan for Taylor's training camp participation. “My thought is he'll be on the field for the first shorts practice. We'll open camp with Fred but we'll practice him once a day and it'll be in shorts. We'll monitor him during that first week. We want to see his strength continue to improve. The big thing for Fred is to continue to increase the strength in that leg. He won't take part in the scrimmage but, leading up to the (preseason) game against Miami, we'd like to work him into the padded practices,” Del Rio said. Meanwhile, the Jaguars are attempting to trade for Henry and news along those lines would seem to be imminent. “The fact that we have an opportunity to acquire a running back of this kind of talent is something we have to look at, so we're looking at it. This may or may not happen, but we're protecting our interests and any time we think we can acquire somebody who can help us we're going to do that. It looks like it's coming to a head in the next few days or week,” Del Rio said. Henry rushed for 1,438 yards in 2002 and for 1,356 yards in '03. He had a 4.1 yards-per-carry rushing average through the first three years of his career, scored 23 touchdowns rushing in '02 and '03 combined and added 71 pass receptions in those two seasons. At 5-9, 215, Henry is a small pounder. He's a rugged inside runner who might be a perfect complement to Taylor. Henry is good in short-yardage and goal-line situations. He's a tough guy who left a game against Houston in '03 with a cracked fibula, then returned in the second half to rush 10 more times and complete a 149-yard day.

Is your friend Drew Bledsoe, Ted Turner or a Buffalo? I think that's all there is in Montana.... Have a great trip..great place to visit this time of year...

I find this article relevant... Sitting on the dock of the bay--wasting time... People are lying...I bet the average TBD member wastes far more than this...

An outbreak of carpal tunnel on TBD....where in the heck would TD get his personnel ideas...Mularkey his schemes and plays....serious hurt.. -
Coach: Travis, pay attention. Now see, Mary is the right tackle on this play...you follow her butt to the outside and Gena, your fullback, clears the linebacker who is played by Kristi... Travis: Got it coach. Where is the nearest 7 Eleven?

Thanks Stuck--wasn't necessarily referencing only sacks--but just disrupting plays--passing or running. He is a silent--eat your lunch at your desk and do your job type guy--but turns it up a notch when its third and two or third and six--up by 3 points and makes the play.

In college, Anderson was one of those guys that knew his role--plug the middle, but when OSU needed a big play on D, he was the guy making the play more often than not. I usually don't like comparisons, but you know how Willie McGinest can be relatively quiet all game--just playing his role doing his job in an above average way--but he is always there at the end when the Pats need him..that's what Anderson kind of was in college--solid most times but spectacular when the game was on the line. Now I know McGinest is an outside player and Anderson an interior guy--but I just have this feeling that we will see Anderson in the backfield blowing up a play just when we need it the most. Remember, Krumrie said the guy held up in the Mortal Kombat drill as well as anyone ever has.. (Krumrie on Anderson)...that says something about stamina and resolve...never getting tired...never getting overwhelmed...we'll see how well that transfers. As for Kelsay--he got better, significantly better, as the season evolved last year...that usually leads to a "breakout" the following year. I think we look back on him lasting until the mid to late second round as a huge bargain. Remember, this is the draft that also yielded--McGahee, McGee, depth at LB/good special teams in Crowell and Hagan--and most importantly Luvale Sape!!!

Jack Buck and Hank Stram. The best reason to turn down the sound on the TV broadcast and listen to it on the radio. I think Buck was very underated as a football play by play guy. You know how some guys define a profession...Hank was the pro football coach I thought of in my mind..firey, direct, tough as nails. Rest in Peace Hank...a little prayer for Jack Buck also..you guys will be together this fall doing MNF games upstairs.

You hit upon a really interesting point OW. First, its not just JP--we have a great blend of coaching creativity (Clements and Mularkey); coaching experience (Wyche and McNally) and skill position talent (Willis, Moulds, Evans, Parrish) on the O side of the ball. This is a great support system for JP in his first year as a starter. Mularkey and Clements almost led Kordell Stewart to an MVP type season three years ago--add Wyche and McNally to that list and plays will be designed that combine low risk with utlization of JP's skills and coverage of our weaknesses (offensive line left side pass protection). Second, the key will be how we as a team, not just JP, handle the blitz and the 8 or 9 in the box the first couple of weeks. Blitzes against us the last two years killed us. I don't have the stats to back this up--but I bet against the blitz no gain or negative plays (Loss or Turnover) outnumbered positive plays 3 or 4 to one. We just couldn't handle it--the line couldn't pick them up (Sans the winning streak last year) and the QB wasn't strong at making quick decisions. If we roll away from the blitz--put the QB on the move more-the need to make quick reads and decisions is somewhat mitigated--it buys time to read and react..this will help with JP's inexperience and its something we really could not do with Drew-I bet that positive play ratio on blitzes improves fairly significantly. Finally, 8 or 9 in the box--great do it--I think we have a speedy set of strong receivers (Evans and Parrish's strength to size numbers are pretty impressive) and a quick passing game design that could lead to some really big plays--ala Peerless on quick slants 3 years ago. Also we have 3 what I would term mooses on the line---Bennie, Chris V and Big Mike---these three can engulf or overwhelm guys inside quickly and Willis hits the whole quickly and is powerful once he gets going--a good tackle breaker and stiff armer...running inside behind big strong lineman with a quick and powerful back can lead to some long runs against a stacked alignment. I won't make any record predictions but I think the elements are there to be very explosive on O in certain situations. If we establish early that we can scheme against the blitz and the stacked line both by successfully running and throwing...watch out...this team will have a dynamic year--and we have the talent to execute in these situations due to a combination of: JP's legs The upgrade of the interior line Parrish's speed Lee's strength and development Willis' improvement in speed and strength...
