  1. Good post. I agree with much of what you wrote. and it was helpful to hear how schoebel's contract was extended. however, you have made a lot of generalizations -- as you accuse that i have done (i.e., shoeble doesn't draw double teams, jason taylor's opinion is worth anything, etc). regardless, the problem, i think, is simple. 1) peters may have been "checked out by doctors" but a $8 mil investment is going to require him getting on the field and "buying into the team" and what the bills are trying to do. there has to be some dedication shown buy the guy. to hide behind your agent is, while a business move only, has never been the way to deal with wilson. wilson, as other posters have stated, will pay when he see dedication and proof that he is getting a prodcut that buys into the system adn culture. i think that is reasonable. a $7-8 mil investment requires more than a doctor statment "he is healthy and his groin is healed." what about his conditioning? is his ballsack healed -- are his guts/intestants out of his testicles and back in his stomach -- where they are supposed to be (that is what a sports hernia is)? valid questions for a left tackle position. 2) peters value is not fully known or developed because he was a pro bowler in a down season at the position (joe thomas a rookie was sent to hawaii); it was peters first season at the posiiton, he was a back up te and defense tackle in college (not a blue chip tackel prospect who has the pedigree to paly 12 season at that level -- by more than talent, but brains and technique -- as vetted at the combine). i'm a peters fan. i've seen the guy play and he is clearly a special talent. he moves silky smooth for a man with his size. he pass protects well -- rangy and long arms and good footwork -- the hallmarks of a pass protector. his run leverage at the POA seems great too. he and dockery get good pushs and he is a pile mover. i would not say he is a devastating blocker however. i would not say he is a pancaking machine. i would say he is an average run blocker -- IMHO. with all this said, what is his value? what i wrote above (his pedigree; injury status, adn overall skill (he was a probowler in a down yr at a VERY position)) is a question and by no means KNOWN or FACTUAL. wilson will tread carefully here. cahmbers has shown to be very able -- thus far. i personally like chambers mean streak better than peters on run plays. but like peters pass blocking. these are the issue -- they will be resolved soon enough. but to pay peters $8 a season -- seems irrational.
  2. there r a lot of moving parts here. lets rehash the facts we know: peters has three yrs left on his contact. in 2005 he signed an extension for 5 years at $15 milliosn.. he wants $8-13 mil per season. he was an undrafted free agent. the bills cut him then resigned him. no one knows how his groin injury healed aft the giants game. peters made the probowl when the afc has NO dominant left tackle. joe thomas, a rookie, replaced him b/k he was injured. peters a very good player, but not a premier tackle. joe thomas was the starter in the pro bowl -- a rookie. no jonathan ogden. no john tait. no tarik glenn. they all retired or moved positions. shoebel was given an extension -- with three yrs left on his contract. this was after 50 sacks and being healthy and reporting to camp. peters agent parker is hellbent on getting huge guaranteed money and 6-7 yr deals for his clients. his clients include walter jones and steven jackson -- player that held out fir top money. the bills are not a cash cow. peters does not have the pedigree of jackson or jones or schoebel. peters was also injured. he was a pro bowler -- in a down yr at left tackle in the afc. the bill should offer $10m-$12 guaranteed money and a three yr extension at $6.5 mm per season. that is a $3.5 million raise, etc. seems fair. but $8-12 mm is not fair. btw, dockery and walker were high picks (both 3rd , i think) and proven players coming in.
  3. i agree. but this is a pure contract issue IMO. this a lawyer, parker, and his client, peters, breaching their contract. they have three years left. what is amazing -- is that teams extend contracts three (3) years out. with shoebel, the bills DID JUST THAT/. one poster put it best a few days agao, saying, the bills are not going to extend for a guy who doesnt show to camp and last time theny saw him, "he was liming off the field." the poor bills were and are desperate for talent. the bills are like the fat ugly girl at the prom who wants to get laid and will put herself in a bad position just to be like everyone else -- BECAUSE SHE IS desperate to be like the others. teh patroits would laugh at Peters -- and most likely deal him away.
  4. You are right, Shoebel did extend with three (3) years left. I did not notice that. Wow. I'm surprised. I guess Peters has no past record -- like schoebel did -- shoebel had 50 sacks when they extended. And schoebel was healthy. regardless, you are right, they extended three (3) years out. hmmm....changed the dynamic.
  5. This is different because Peters has three (3) years left. If you exhaust your contract you renegotiate. If you have one yr left you can extend. three 93) years out is STUPID. Jason just signed his $3 mm tow seasons ago. it is utter BULLsh--. adn this is why the bills hacve to represent the league.
  6. The biggest problem with the Peters saga is that teh Bills are representing the ENTIRE LEAGUE in this. Here, the club has to protect the language of NFL contracts and hold a palyer to his agreement and writting regardless of whether they need him in camp. WIlson has to protect the negotiation tactics of all NFL owners. Peters and Parker know this and they know that Wilson is desparate to have a left tackle finally -- since Will Wolford left to the COlts 12-14 years ago. If I were Wilson, I would give Peters an incentive laden contract. play to get paid. the bonus or guaranteed money should be low as peters was injured and only has one probowl under his belt. the AFC has terrible left tackles -- how good is peters anyway? is he as good as ogden? tarik gleen? Jon tait? Peeters was a backup TE at arkansas. he was not a high first rounder who has the pedigree to get paid for his resume and his ONE GOOD SEASON. a harvard law grad who had a good first yr at a firm is going to make more money than a Univ. bufflao grad who had a good season. simple truth. Parker is a punk. He, like other agents, is too involved in the process. Are these advocates or lawyer trourble makers? He mustprotect his cleint, but is he doing a service to a guy who is breaching his contract? the rules of professional responsibily should be reviewed and it maybe Parker should be levied ethic violations...
  7. I like Trent, and hope he can stay healthy. Its hard to find an iron man like Brett Farve, but Trent has been injured alot. At Stanford, Edwards sat out his freshman year in 2002, and began 2003 behind starter Chris Lewis. After an impressive showing as a back up, Edwards got the start for four games, but was then sidelined with a shoulder INJURY for the rest of the season. In 2004, Edwards was the starter, but again suffered iINJURIES that knocked him out of two games and kept him out of two others entirely. Edwards' best year was 2005, where he started all 11 games, completed 168 of 268 passes for 1934 yards and 17 touchdowns, leading the Cardinal to a 5-6 record. In 2006, Edwards was the starter for the first seven games, but suffered a season-ending BROKEN FOOT against Arizona and relinquished the starting role to T. C. Ostrander. Last season, Trent was injured again. This season, he has added about 15-20 pounds of muscle. He is 6-4 -- but sooo skinny. Tom Brady was skinny his 1st year too , and has bulked up to a pretty big dude. Edwards manages the game. he uses his weapons and will not force balls into high traffic areas. he also has good food work and pocket pressense. JP has a better arm -- but lacks what Edwards has in patience and calmness.
  8. no. that's a bruttal assesment. heap cant stay healthy for that determination. ngagta is a def. tackle --- 1/50 guys in the league like him
  9. I got to tell ya, I feel darn good having JP as our backup. This guy has seen live action and is prepared under this system to manage the game nicely. We all know his weaknesses -- but all in all, for a backup, he is a nice option now that Trent is dinged up. Another strong move by Brandon to keep these guys - -especially with Edwards "glass jaw." JP can move the offense -- allbeit -- he may make some mistakes. regardless, if we had Nail or Van Pelt or some other scrub --- I would be down on the QB depth. Feels GOOD!
  10. anyway you slice it, willis rushed for 1200 yards and caught 43 balls for another 231. all for 8 TDS. baltimore sucked last season -- with no QB or off. line -- alot like the bills the last 10 years. but you are right, reed is a great player. ray lewis is pretty much done -- washed up/ injury prone. he is not the dominant player he once was. but really, can we say that a safety is more valuable than a RB? i dont think so. i mean, reed is the best, but he is part of 11 guys, willis is the focal point. i would say wilis is the best player onteh ravens. rather subjective...
  11. The season hasn't started, buth thus far, the front office has gone out and added the players -- at the positions -- they were lacking. Lets take a look: 1) LB. Mitchell is an upgrade. they have a little more depth there now. Health will be key. But on paper, they have some servicable tacklers to use. 2) Corner. Last season, they had ZERO depth there. They can now plug various guys in there. I'm a little concerned about McElvin's tacking ability. His return game is terrific however. 3) DE line. signing williams and the additon of johnson and stroud were good for depth. This should all benefit McCargo -- who showed signed of becoming dominate. Remember, McCargo was a junior when he came out -- so he is just now coming of age. Kelsey adn denney are terrible. They are both too undersized. I have seen both man-handled. Hopefully Ellis will challenge. Kelsey is the MOST overpaid player on the team. Denney should be cut. He is useless. Even as a backup. Strong words, but if you watch them, they are pathetic. 4) TE. Fine looks good. he has good hands and is a good blocker. ROyal is a proven vet. They still need an upgrade. But this was a problem spot for 10 years -- and they now have some servicable guys at this position. 5) OL line depth. Every team doesn't have this. However, good lines can "plug" gusy into their line -- and make it work. Chamber is actually pretty damn good. I think dockery and walkers pressence and fowler -- allows the rest to feel comfortable. The value of dockery and walker is evident. 6) WR depth. hardy will be a player. that is all they need. parrish and reed are 3rd down specialist. but hardy is the real deal. corners have trouble matching up. Evans can get single coverage -- and that matchup is what make hardy a key player to have on the field. He can draw coverages and is a pain in the a$s to cover and account for. brandon, and levy before him, had added some nice fiber to the lineup. this team, if lynch holds up and shoebel and the defense backfield plays sold -- could win 10 games. the division is better. favre can win. miami will compete now. the pats are still unbeatable. but still, the bills have an identity now, and they have a little moxie. edwards is patient and doesn't make bone-head plays. he manages the game. he is our rich gannon???
  12. ha. alive and well hombre.
  13. parker is working on steven jackson's contract right now. no time for peters? some of parker's clients: Hines Ward (Super Bowl XL MVP and four-time Pro Bowler) Richard Seymour (4 time all pro) Walter Jones (5 time all pro) Emmitt Smith (NFL all time leading rusher) Larry Fitzgerald (All pro) Derrick Brooks (9 time all pro) Rod Woodson (11 time all pro) Aeneas Williams (8 time all pro) Rex Grossman (Super Bowl QB) Devin Hester (NFL record holder, all pro) Cedric Benson (Super Bowl running back) Curtis Martin (5 time all pro) Laveranues Coles (all pro receiver) Jason Peters (all pro left tackle) James Hardy (Bills 2008 2nd Round Draft Pick) Felix Jones (Cowboys 2008 1st Round Draft Pick] Tashard Choice (Cowboys 2008 3rd Round Draft Pick) Steven Jackson (St. Louis Rams star running back)
  14. pure bullsh-- what you wrote. willis, while a total loser of a person, is baltimores top player. he aint going anywhere. he was totally impressive last season, and the ravens are counting on big things in 09 from him. he knee was simply scoped -- a minor procedure. he will carry the rock 300+ this season. becoming a great player.
  15. this guy is a baller. 6-4 lanky. plays with good leverage and courage to take on blockers at the POA. good speed and chases guys down. with more muscle next season, he will let us send kelsey to the bench -- thank god.
  16. i think they both suck. i know i'm going to take some flake here -- but denney is a total waste. he is not physical enough. a big soft pu$sy. kelsey is undersized and gets runover by bigger backs. both play with NO leverage or technique for run support. this is a major problem with the line. MAJOR PROBLEM.
  17. Parker thought he had a barrel over the bills b/k they are a 500 club with only brad morman as their pro bowler. as such, parker tried to strong arm brandon. parker is one year too late b/k the line used their money for langston and dockery. peters was scrub te from arkansas. mouse got him to play right tackle. he is now a good player -- ala big cat james williams (rt) for the bears 10 years ago. contract law -- which eugene parker purports to be efficient in -- states that a failure to comply with a contract constitutes a breach. peters has three years left -- he has breached by not reporting. these are the facts. ralph wilson didn't make his millions by being strong armed and hood-winked by some punk philadelphia lawyer type like eugene whatever parker. amen for brandon and wilson. keep up the goOD work! also, lets give $3 million to CHAMBERS -- THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS!
