  1. The whole event, including the soldiers' answers, were scripted. That's a wee bit different than prepping for an interview. And last time I checked, a late night interview consisting of Letterman setting up Cameron Diaz to promote her new movie is a little different than the president wanting to speak to soldiers to get their opinion on the state of operations in Iraq. Given that the answer's were written by W's staff, what kind of answers do you think the shrub was looking for?
  2. His family must be soooo proud Actually, some of the stuff, like the in-and-out-and-in toward the end is pretty cool.
  3. There was a stoner in my typing class who completed 1/2 a page of a ten page timed typing test. I got through 9 pages with roughly 3 typos per page. His half page had no errors. He scored a 90-something, I had a 80-something. I told the teacher, Ms Clemments, that it was unfair, and unless my grade was revisited, I "reserve the right to raise some serious hell" about it. I was suspended for 2 days for threatening a teacher.
  4. If you have to ask, don't bother. Save your money (it's $129, not $140). But the NHL is fun to watch. They're finally getting it right IMO.
  5. They picked up Michael Leighton who had been a very good player for the local AHL team, the Norfolk Admirals (Chicago's farm team). He's a very good AHL goalie. The guy they gave up was Milan Bartovic. He has potential, but he's the guy that, IIRC, wanted to play in his native Czech Republic his first year as opposed to playing in Rochester. He also said he wasn't going to return to Rochester if he didn't make the Sabres' roster this season, but reluctantly joined the Amerks for camp. He still has upside but given his demands and desire to play in the Czech league, I'm glad he's gone. The interesting thing asbout this move is that that there are now 5 decent-to-very good goalies in the organization: Tom Askey, Leighton, Mika, Miller, and Marty. Similar to the dilemma they face with Gaustad when Mair returns from injury, it's a good problem to have.
  6. He has 2 goals and an assist in his 5 games in his fill-in duty for Adam Mair. He was supposed to just hold down the center position on the fourth line but has played pretty well. It will be interesting to see what happens when Mair is healthy enough to return - a good problem to have! http://www.amerks.com/PlayerProfile.aspx?ID=5 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/playoffs/teams/playe...tad&hubName=BUF
  7. ...except having a completion percentage over 48%, passing for over 100 yards, and leading the offense to two TDs.
  8. He didn't get a whole lot of carries either. He had averages of 3.9, 4.1, 4.1, and 4.1, but he didn't have more than 183 carries in any of those seasons. In his "decent" year, 1972, he had 292 carries for 1251 yards (4.2 avg) and 6 TDs. OJ was good from the get-go, he just didn't have the touches.
  9. They're in business to turn a profit and sensationalism sells.
  10. A guy at our Backers club (Ramius' buddy, Erik Z) turned to me and said that's exactly what we should do as Moorman went back to punt. It would have made great sense. I think Brian could have run around back there and burned some time, but maybe they were afraid of a strip and fumble for a TD? Of course, if that would have happened, TSW would have gone into total melt down.
  11. I took a psych class last semester, and the mention of BF Skinner made my ears perk up. I've got to believe that entering the code and pushing the button is an expirement in operant conditioning. To summarize operant condidtioning, Skinner was doing some studies on rats. He ran out of their reward, food, and decided to cut back on the amount he gave them when they accomplished their specific task in the experiment. What he found was that, although the rats were receiving less and less in terms of reward, they still completed their task in the same manner in which they did when they were being well-rewarded. The rats continued to complete their tasks even after all reward had been removed. That, in a nutshell, is operant conditioning, and why I think the code and the button is somehow an extension of Skinner's work.
  12. Hurley's awesome. I know about 20 people who would probably act like he does in similar situations. My favorite from last week was when he walked in the pantry/provision room and just said "Dude." I don't know why I find him so entertaining, maybe he's just a little more like the rest of us than Jack, Sawyer, et al.
  13. It'll be nice to finally meet ya'! I guess you'll be easy to spot, all gimpy and stuff.
  14. I have no argument that with you in that JP wasn't getting it done. I was all for Holcomb going in. That said, JP's smart, has demonstrated leadership abilities, has a cannon for an arm, and can be very accurate. I think his #1 problem right now is that the game's a little too fast for him right now. I don't think that's something that he can't overcome, he's just not ready yet. I think he'll be a very good player for us for a lot of years, but that's only my opinion. I've been wrong before. But only once.
  15. In this instance you're flat out wrong.
  16. http://www.thehansofoundation.org/dharma.html What's wrong with his left arm? It never moves - prosthetic?
  17. I like Losman, and I'll think he'll be a good QB for us for many years, but that's a stretch. Completing 46% of attempted passes and gaining 98 yards through the air wouldn't have got it done IMO.
  18. Awesome. You and Clutch will have to post reviews - but we'll wait until your thumbs need a break.
  19. The release date is technically the ship date - EB got into some trouble a while back with several publishers because some employees were "leaking" games to friends and family before their release. At least that's according to a guy who works at my local EB when I asked him about the day after availability. I know there's a lot of buzz about this game, so you might want to swing by EB or Gamestop and plunk down $5 to have them hold it for you. Especially since you won't be able to pick it up until after work. Around here, the popular games are usually sold out by the time the kids get out of school if I don't reserve them.
  20. That looks cool. I wish I was about 15 pounds and 15 years lighter, I'd go for it. Maybe we need to get a Waller in there and follow his progress.
  21. Unless he really was drunk, then he wouldn't be lying, he'd just be mistaken, and that's not really lying, so we can trust him when he says he hadn't had a drink in 25 years.
  22. I'd say that's more a function of free agency than a lack of initiative at OBD. Unlike hockey, I can only remember a couple of trades league-wide at or near the deadline in recent years.
  23. Yup. We're banged up, but like 18 penalties, it's all part of the game.
