  1. I did a little searching and found that they shot down an ammendment to reduce America's oil consumption because 40% of our oil is used in vehicles and we couldn't possibly expect to burden Detroit with meeting improved mileage standards.
  2. I know whatcha' mean - I feel the same about Florida. In that case though, the humidity was 100% and the temps were hitting triple digits, too much for my yankee arse - I'll never vacation there again.
  3. Am I alone in that I won't buy anything from an eBay seller that doesn't have a rating? I like to think that I give people the benefit of the doubt, but paying today to receive tix in a couple of months from a seller with no track record just seems a bit too trusting to me.
  4. -A PAC funded his trip to Moscow, violating ethics rules. -A PAC threw a babyshower for his daughter, violating ethics rules. -A PAC paid his family members excessive fees for marginal services, violating ethics rules. -His brainchild allows a $1200 donation to the GOP to buy a Congressional Physician of the Year award, which may or may not violate an established 'rule,' but is still as unethical as hell. And then he blames his ethical problems on "liberal media" like the WSJ, who wrote that he had "an unsavory air" about him. That's just off the top of my head, but believe you me, if Americans are interested in maintaining a modicom of ethical behavior in Congress, they ought to be desperate to get him out. Even other republicans are seperating themselves from him - that ought to tell you something.
  5. KDH and Kitty Hawk are nice (and fun!), but many of us quasi-locals (in Va Beach) seem to be drawn to Ocracoke. It's close, small, relatively quite, and the beaches are all protected from development (and well maintained) by the US Parks Service. Mrs Campy and l drive the Jeep a few miles up the beach, find a nice little dune to chill-out on, get the portable grill going, have a few beers, and just leave life behind for a little while... ...I'm feeling more mellow just thinking about it!
  6. I can't say I'm opposed to extending DST, but I'd be pretty curious to see what else is getting lumped into that energy legislation.
  7. I may have a case of faulty memory obscuring fact, but from the little I've seen out of Aiken, I like him - I think he belongs. Reed, on the other hand, seems like he's had every opportunity to succeed, but somehow manages to fall on his face. I hope that Reed snaps out of it and becomes a reliable option - but I wouldn't be surprised if Aiken replaces him as the 3rd WR this year.
  8. Seems like a good guy - especially his attitude and overcoming the 2 surgeries. He looks impressive too, but I just can't get past the Alvin and the Chipmunks soundtrack on his vid!
  9. So I guess the days of papers just printing retractions are gone?
  10. I don't follow college ball, so it's hardly surprising I had never heard of him but judging by the video clip, he seems to have very good balance, quickness and decent strength. I don't know how/if he'd transition to the NFL given his size, but those were some pretty impressive plays all the same.
  11. Article III, section 2: "The judicial Power shall extend to all Cases, in Law and Equity, arising under this Constitution, the Laws of the United States, and Treaties made, or which shall be made, under their Authority;--to all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public ministers and Consuls;--to all Cases of admiralty and maritime Jurisdiction;--to Controversies to which the United States shall be a Party;--to Controversies between two or more States;--between a State and Citizens of another State;--between Citizens of different States;--between Citizens of the same State claiming Lands under Grants of different States, and between a State, or the Citizens thereof, and foreign States, Citizens or Subjects." Not that I always agree with their decisions and rulings but I'm having a difficult time seeing where the Sup Ct Justices have usurped power. If anything, they should be commended for satisfying their Consitutional responsibilities to the best of their ability.
  12. A responsible parent or guardian uses it as a teaching tool. Like Bush's drug and alcohol abuse, it can be a positive. Blaming either for setting a bad example is lazy parenting.
  13. 2 questions: 1. Where do you work? 2. They hiring? This summer will be low-key for us, we're planning on heading down to the Outer Banks (Ocracoke Island).
  14. The powers that be on the hill trying to trash the Constitution with this: I can't believe the assclowns that sponsored this bill (Senators Brownback, Burns, Burr, Craig, and Lott) aren't being called on to the carpet - Not only do they try to usurp the Constitution, they essentially outlaw the act of striking this rubbish down for unconstitutionality as being essentially a crime. They reference Article III of the Constitution, perhaps they should re-read it!
  15. As pious as you claim to be, perhaps you should consider a career change.
  16. That said, and combined with this, shouldn't "good" Roman catholics tend to vote GOP?
  17. It's a helluva lot easier than assuming responsibility. It used to be comic books were censored and had to be approved by a governmental agency in the 40s and 50s. Then it was music, and now it's video games. It's always "something" corrupting the kids, yet adults fail to consider that maybe, just maybe, it's their actions in the real world that have the real adverse effect on children's behavior. I guess people are too busy blaming poor role models to realize that they're not being a very good one themselves.
  18. The way the game has been altered is the reason I no longer watch (or play) basketball. I'm not attacking you but IMO the changes ruined basketball.
  19. Shoot, for $20 it sounds like it'd be a pretty fun time. I'd say go - but avoid the milk. Sometimes they leave those cartons sitting out too long.
  20. No, you interpretation was accurate. There are alot of issues where I think the UN is right, and there are just as many where I disagree - And then there are probably an equal amount where I'm not exactly sure what I think the UN could (or even should) do. But the abuses in the Oil-for-Food program should be enough for every member-nation to say it's time for a change. Politics are politics, but thievery is thievery.
  21. He'll still look pretty much the same.
  22. I thought the reason that certain bats had been banned was that the ball comes off too hot and too often results in injuries, especially on come-backs at the pitcher. I can appreciate Pete's point, but I guess I'm just kinda' surprised any league allows them. The local leagues around here I've played in (all city leagues) don't allow them because of risk of injury and liability. Maybe it's just the cities in this area?
  23. Its been a couple of years, but I sure don't remember bats costing that much. I picked up 2 bats (Louisville Sluggers), a pair of cleats (Nike) and golf spikes (Lovejoy) for something like $250 from Sports Authority. I guess I missed the bat-tech explosion and/or just got lucky. I'm not into softball enough to drop $100 on one freakin' bat - that price seems outrageous to me.
