The offence over performed though. Not the defence

I just think if the bills add in a bunch of defensive help (which I think they will) and if they continue to struggle in the 1st half of the season, then McDermott will start to get impatient. (Kind of like with Dorsey as he only lasted a year and a half) I'm not saying it's all of babichs fault as there are definitely personnel issues- But the results weren't pretty this year and it needs to get better in a hurry

Ya I don't think so either. But I do think he will be on thin ice if the defence sucks the first 4-8 games or so next year

I 100 percent agree. Especially with the coverage issue. The d line sucks- but sometimes they also have no chance as the ball is out so fast cause WRs are running wide open

I'm more calling for a scheme change- Whether it is Frazier, McDermott or Babich, this defence crumbles in the playoffs . They aren't going to change the scheme and keep Babich Which is what I'm trying to say- As that would be like having a west coast offensive coach and then asking him to run Erhardt-Perkings. Just wouldn't work

Agreed. You know things are bad on defence when we are happy the chiefs went 56 percent on 3rd down this past game haha

I agree. But the only way the scheme will change is if Babich is fired and McDermott decides to hire from the outside. (Which unfortunately I don't think it will happen.

Like for the 3rd down defence? No in total for the season they were 29th on 3rd downs

No disagreement. I would say 2 things: 1. Babich did a poor job of running McDermotts defence 2. I personally would hire an outside mind. This defence needs a new identify/scheme change

Fair- a few posts above I did a comparison from this years talent to last year. I don't think it's that much different to be honest, maybe slightly worse. If you disagree, all good. I just don't think the talent is that much worse than last year, and the drop off was huge in terms of production

Why do you feel like he's done the best? If you summarize the Bills Defence as a whole, by all accounts they were probably in the 17-20 range Where in years past they have been top 5, and if I'm not mistaken I think we're number 1 in one season.

That's fair- But do you think it was that much worse than last year? D line- Slightly worse this year Cause the loss of Floyd. (But Von had a bit more of an impact) Linebackers- I would say better this year with the return of Milano and Dorian taking a step Corners- Call it a wash. Douglas was worse this year, but benford was better Safeties- slightly worse this year or a wash I would say. Rapp is better than 2023 Hyde/poyer. But 2023 Hyde and poyer were better than Hamlin IMO. You could argue the talent is slightly worse this year than last- But a lot of the numbers this year are way worse, which has to speak to somewhat coaching as well

For sure- To be clear, I am not blaming everything on Babich. But I think a lot of the times we like to choose one side:- Like: "It's the players fault". Or "It's the coaches fault" In reality? Usually it is a combination of both That is exactly what I have been calling for as well. I think this defence needs an identity shake up

Haha I know, but like I said, I was trying to keep Mcdermott out of it as theres more to it. Babich does call the plays on defence and deserves critcism- Especially with their 3rd down and pass defence falling off a cliff

First off... If I were to bet, I would bet saying no he doesn't get fired because it was his 1st year BUT... I think it is at least a discussion worth having, and that he will be on thin ice next season. Some stats that are pretty alarming: 29th on 3rd downs Let up the 4th most first downs in the league. 23rd in passing yards allowed and 8th most passing TDS allowed. (Insane compared to years in the past) And in the biggest game of the year against KC with two starters out in the secondary, I believe Joe Marino stated they played man around 44 percent of the time... I am trying not to make this a Sean Mcdermott discussion, as we get it as it is his scheme. But inarguably, the Bills defence outside of turnovers? Was pretty much a disaster this season and Bobby B didn't have many answers. What do you think about Babich going forward?

What I'm trying to say is 9 mil doesn't get you much for a DE. (I think AJ is making 7.5?) Ya that's probably fair. I'm usually not a fan of trading 1st rounders- But if you can get an impact pass rusher in their prime, that would be pretty tempting

Im Not saying hang onto Von. I said cut him. But you can't go into the season with that IMO. You need a significant upgrade at DE 2 as AJ isn't good enough for that I would pick a DE at 30, but can't rely on that for huge impact. Got to sign a top pass rusher or trade for one

Oh for sure, I'm in favour of cutting him 100 percent. My point is- Bills are still going to need to find a better replacement for him as saving 9 mil for a DE who got 6 sacks isn't a ton

Yes- Now In saying that... As mediocre/average Von was, the Bills still have to replace his 6 sacks. Defensive ends ain't cheap, and saving 9 mil isn't as much as we think at the DE position. (Assuming we are bringing in an upgrade)

Fair- But I think a lot of us (including myself), were saying go up to get him at the time, as he has elite traits- And it was a surprise to me that he even made it to the 20s

Ya for sure, we will never know if a trade was realistic for the right price. But... There is a price for everything. If the Bills really wanted BT JR, they could have gotten him 100 percent agreed. I said the exact same thing when the Bills drafted Kincaid. Going big with 12 personnel isn't Josh's strong suit, as he prefers throwing to shifty receivers

That's true. Most likely would have been a 2024 2nd and change. So in hindsight it would have probably been swapping 1sts, cole bishop and Maybe someone like Javon Solomon for Brian Thomas

Yep- Overall Beane has built a good team. But just not enough elite talent. Elam- 3 seasons played Kincaid- 2 Coleman- 1 So 6 seasons in total from those guys From his last 3 first round picks (I know Coleman is technically pick 33), he's only really had 1 productive season out of 6 from those guys. (Kincaid last year) That's the difference right now between overall a very good team he's built, and a Super Bowl team

I'm in no disagreement there- The bills pass rush isn't good enough. But the play calling also sucks- Let me give you two examples from yesterdays game. 4th and 5 the bills have with the game on the line- Spags confuses Josh/Brady. That's 100 percent a scheme win and nothing to do with talent 3rd and 9 for the chiefs which iced the game. Babich is in man coverage. Andy anticipates it, and calls the perfect man beater. Another scheme win with nothing to do with talent. The talent isn't good enough to your point- But Babich always gets out schemed on the money downs
