  1. the original crank it up song... http://youtu.be/Kew3Xx6e8-I
  2. It may seem to others as if you are minimizing the storm's damage. Trust me, the storm was as bad as it gets. Not the lives lost as was the case with Katrina in New Orleans, but it was bad for folks in Fayetteville, Sanford, Holly Springs, and those places in Bertie County. Specifically in the Fayetteville area, there are hundreds who are homeless and hundreds more who will have their houses condemned by the time it's all said and done. My wife's new school was literally destroyed. I have some good friends in that building too. Us teachers stick out for each other. From the areal shots of the school, my friend's kindergarten room is one of the two rooms without a top. The counterpart to my job at that school lost her room too. This one hit home and it has not been "overblown" in the least bit. We will need every bit of disaster assistance possible, on a volunteer level, local level, state level, and federal level.
  3. Glad you're ok. Here in Hope Mills, we didn't even sustain damage to some freshly planted trees... But as you said, down the road, its as if you're in a war zone, and I mean that literally.
  4. We're ok here in Fayetteville. 10 minutes away looks like Baghdad though. My wife's school is the elementary school that they've been talking about on the news. She actually just transferred there on Friday, effective in August. It will be closed for the remainder of the school year with the students to possibly be displaced throughout the rest of the district. Hopefully it opens back up in August (which it should). It's a miracle that there's only 1 reported death in Cumberland County right now, although that number is unfortunately going to change.
  5. Miller didn't give up softie goals when Biron was behind him. Why? He knew that a softie or two would lead to his benching without a major step backwards from the team. Conklin, LaLime, and Thibault all sucked and everyone knew it. Miller could give up a softie and not begin to sweat over his job. Now that he has a guy with a shutout and multiple OT/shootout wins behind him, I am willing to bet that the "softies" will be few and far between when he comes back.
  6. Note to self, always remember to add + c or else i'll lose a point on a quiz or something.
  7. Does channel 17 still go off the air at 12:00 or whenever and play the REALLY old videos of the us and canadian anthems?
  8. Terrible. We have two sets of friends, one on the main island and one in guam. Hoping that they are ok.
  9. Well, on the good side, I can spend about $1000 on other stuff this august!
  10. Well folks, another year of watching the final HOF selection in anticipation... What are Reed's chances this year? I think that this is a weak year. I cannot see deon sanders getting in, faulk is a big question mark. If Thurman wasn't a first ballot HOFer, then neither should Marshall Faulk. I think that Bettis gets in though. I also think Carter gets in. If you put carter in, then you almost have to include Reed. They were very similar receivers playing in the same era. If Reed is to get in, this is the year for it. I really hope to me making Canton hotel reservations tonight!!!
  11. Congrats. Mine's a year and a half old. He loves his bills hoodie. Start em young. There's a good sabres game to watch tomorrow night.
  12. No, I didn't get the DSS treatment. I teach special ed pre school for a public school. This injury screamed of "developmentally appropriate injury consistent with a fall". Now, if he goes back for another broken arm next week, then I'm sure i'll be getting a visit. Anyhow, he's got a full arm cast and has already figured out how to get up and down. He should be fine. Cast stays on for 3 weeks.
  13. My 16 month old son fell off of one single step and landed in a completely unawkward, "normal" manner and ended up with a buckle fracture of his radius bone. I won't bore you with the medical specifics, you can google that yourself... The injury happened on Friday and he wasn't in much pain but could not use his arm to pull himself up or pick up heavy toys. No bruising, swelling, hot/cold fingers, etc. It just "wasn't right". So we took him to the ER yesterday for the diagnosis and he has a splint/ace bandage thing on till we can get a hard cast later this afternoon. I'm asking for a) prayers for a speedy recovery for my boy, and b) advice as to what kind of fun I'll be experiencing as a parent dealing with a toddler with a cast. As far as i'm concerned right now, he's back to 100%. After he figured out that he could use the hard splint to pull up and maneuver, he's back to running around crazy and climbing on everything. Hopefully since the break is minor, we'll be looking at the low end of the 4-6 week window for the cast. Any stories of experience/advice would be greatly appreciated right now!
  14. Bada Bing!
  15. Check ou the questionnaire from The Mick.
  16. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.
  17. Lindy Ruff, now the longest tenured coach in American professional sports. edit: apparently jerry sloan of the utah jazz has been coaching longer. My bad.
  18. What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger.
  19. I guess all that we know now is that the dead guy is going to be in the runnings for the Darwin Award. The widow, while pretty cute, sounds like a future Darwin Award winner too. If some random person or neighbor came into my house at 1am stumbling around and I had a gun handy, he'd be dead, dead, dead too.
  20. I will have a fresh apple juice drink in his honor.
  21. I got to meet Mike Hamby along with Ray Bentley when they were selling the Darby the Dinosaur books. I was about 10 at the time, so the memories are sketchy, but he was a nice guy then...
  22. Ralph at 92 looks MUCH better than Al Davis at 81. I hate to speculate on death, but Al looks to me like he might be close.
