I watched all of the Lord of the Rings movies
slothrop replied to OnTheRocks's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Steve, come on now. LOTR is not about the special effects. That is not what made the movies great. What made them great was the ability of Peter Jackson to capture the innovative and creative story Tolkein told while being able to depict the world Tolkein imagined. The movies are fantastic. However, I will not agree that the LOTR movies were the best movies ever made. That honor goes to "Joe Dirt." -

What's great about him is his understanding of music. HE does not insert superfulous "runs" in the middle of a song - and he understands tempo, volume, and inflection. HE must be a great music teacher because his understanding of music really shows. I mean the last two nights he sang "Moon River" and "Its a WOnderful WOrld." And he sang them in a way that was original and flawless. I wonder how many of the young contestents even heard of those songs, much less how to sing them. -

I agree that Bo Bice is VERY good. But as far as pure singing talent and understanding of music, Anwar is head and shoulders above everyone. He is technichally flawless. I wonder if his rendition of "Its a Wonderfull World" was his own arrangement. I doubt that it was, but I had never heard that arrangement. -

you mean you have to actually pay attention to the movie?! WTF! I want to be passively entertained while I shovel bon bons into my mouth. Actually, i admit that I am a literature snob and I hate Tolkein's writing style. However, the movies do a GREAT job capturing the imagination, creativity, and story of the books. -
Its a lot of speculation right now...

At risk of running afoul of the new kinder, gentler TSW i have to ask, how many games did you watch last season? -
I formed a custom fantasy baseball league for my fantasy football buddies. Unfortunatly, not many of them are interested in fantasy baseball so I have spots open. This is a free league just for fun. I was inspired by Monty Python when I named the league so the team name is "The Philosphy of Fantasy Baseball." Each team must name their team after a "philospher," which is loosely defined. PM me if you are interested in joining.

This thread should be titled, "The Attack of the Messege Board Geeks!" Geez, lighten up, aren't there any real people you can talk to?

i don't think it belongs in ppp - it is a post about song lyrics. It is an OT post that fits right in with discusions of television shows, tooth decay, and some of our other recent OT posts. Because he corrects the sig. of one of the most prolific PPP posters that does not mean the post should be cast to the depths of TSW hell.

I HATE this Simon worship. It was really annoying when he was on wnsa, but now that he is on WGR all his minions are convinced he farts gold dust. Do you all have a church you all go to worship SImon? Geez. He is a frickin' local sports host! In my opinion, it was frickin' great that brad and jermey were back together. I loved it. I was always a big fan of theirs and hope they dump Simon (can he ever have a strong opinion!) and replace him with brad. Blast away minions! Also, Whitey is a fellow SU grad. Go Orange!

I must say i am intruiged - I wonder if there will be any other literature references along the way that may supply clues. I have a question for those who have seen all the episodes. A few of you, and I believe a character last night (Charlie?), referenced a carniverous giraffe. Is there really a giraffe on the island? Is this the monster? Or is the monster the polar bear? I just need clarification. I have only read espisode summaries and saw the last three episodes.
-
I agree! I just got into this series three weeks ago. I have finished reading all the episode summaries on abc.com and I think I am cought up. BUT - what is that "window" a window too? Is it an old ship? was this in a prior episode?

Tonight's episode was very good! I still think Tony may have given information as to how to bypass security to kidnap Heller and his daughter, even if he did not know who he was giving the info to. Now he realizes the magnitude of his mistake and is trying to make amends. Sucks about teh directors daughter - though at least that annoying subplot is over.

only if he comes with the geriatric home health aid he needs to keep him alive, much less able to play.

Won't Allow Contest Winner to Name Fleet Center the "Jeter Center" Apparently, teh Fleet Center held a contest that allowed the winner to name it for one day. The winner was a Yankee fan who wanted to name it the "Derek Jeter Center!" The best quote from teh story is below:

I identified in a post above 24 RB's that are better (25 if rickey williams comes back). Henry has proven that he can not grasp NFL playbooks and game complexity. He misses blitz pickups, runs the wrong way, fails to pick up holes. He is also one dimensional. HE can not block and he is terrible as a receiver. He has average to below average speed. That makes him a terrible liability when combined with his stupidity. Oh yeah, he can't stay healthy and he has had fumble problems (arguably his fumbling has improved).
-
Backs who are better than TH: - McGahee - Holmes - Martin - Dillon - Rudy Johnson - Chris Brown - Alexander - E. James - Steven Jackson - Julius Jones - Ahman Green - Tomlinson - Fred Taylor - Tiki Barber - Staley - Portis - Dunn - Stephen Davis - Foster - Dominic Davis - macCallister - Kevin Jones - Westbrook - Jordan Possibly others (tatem bell, TJ Duckett, Larry Johnson, etc). I said it before and I will say it now - Henry is a stupid, injury prone, one dimensional RB.
-
What made me think that Tony may have been involved in the kidnapping are the following: - he appeared nervous when Jack said he needed to speak with him after Jack saw the kidnapping photos in the terrorist room - Tony then went outside and took out his gun - Tony was desperate before Jack called him 2 or 3 episodes (hours) ago. It is conceivable that someone contacted him and asked him how to circumvent security. Also another theory: Because the ex-husband of the Sec. of Defense's daughter has a connection to the plot (ownership of the building) could it be that Heller is involved in cooperation with the defense contractor that built the override device? He could have arranged for the terrorists to use the building set up by the ex-husband or something. His involvement would sure explain a lot. How would the terrorists know to leave the room? Also, I found it curious that the secretary of defense insisted on staying at CTU rather than returning to Washington. He said that he was needed because it "was chaos around here." Could it be that he wanted to be at CTU to monitor, redirect, or downright sabotoge their efforts? Could he have allowed the torturing of his son because he suspected that his Son knew about his potential complicty?

Anyone here suspect that Tony helped plan the kidnapping? or worse?

More Trash Hurled at A-Rod Well, there is more from Schilling, Wells, and the Sox directed towards A-Rod. Keep it coming guys!

yesterday was the first episode I saw - a friend from out of town forced me to watch it and filled me in as we went (thank god for digital TV and being able to pause programs). I am hooked, but is there a resource that would enable me to catch-up on all the characters, back-stories, theories, etc. My friend's theory was that there was a nuclear disaster on the island - which explains the presence of the other people on the island and their need to steal babies (because the can not reproduce). She admitted that is was a stupid theory. Also, there is some kind of "monster" on the island, which she surmised was a mutation caused by the disaster.

I don't know why he would insult A-Rod, his family, or if he had the rivalry in mind. I don't care either. I only care that this escalates and spills over to the other players on the team. As I said, I hate both teams, but I love their hatred for each other.

Nixon Blasts A-Rod As a Mets fan, I despise both teams, but I like the rivalry. The best quote from the article:
