Congressman: Mecca a possible retaliation target
slothrop replied to slothrop's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Slothdog? Are you the Randy Jackson of PPP? I will tell you that I have never hugged a tree - especially trees that lean to the left. -
Congressman: Mecca a possible retaliation target
slothrop replied to slothrop's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
No, I was only mocking you. Don't get yourself all worked up - I did not mention "Imperialism" or Zionist tyranny" anywhere (in fact you can search all my posts and I am pretty sure I have never used those terms). If you believe that the problem of Islamic Extremism can be shot from the barrel of a gun then they have already won! Hard power will not win this for us, rather our cultural and economic forces have to win over a new generation. Cause cultural conflict among generations. -
Congressman: Mecca a possible retaliation target
slothrop replied to slothrop's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
As I said, it looks like the Congressman got advice from some of the mental-giants around here. The problem with your analysis is that you only account for "hard-power" and completely neglect the more important facet of international relations, "soft-power." The stupid statement by the Congressman affects the "soft-power" analysis. -
Congressman: Mecca a possible retaliation target
slothrop replied to slothrop's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The issue was the fact that this moron said it. That statement is likely in every Islamic media outlet and will be used by extremists to justify their hate. If we are ever going to help the moderates in the middle east win power we have to stop morons like this Congressman. I think his statement did more harm than we will ever know. -
Michael Moore's Minute Men Strike Again
slothrop replied to philburger1's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The scary part is that you actually believe that! -
Your sweet. Go to the stag and don't look back. Look at it this way - you have been provided a gift of a window into the future. If your GF does not get over this and laugh about it later than you will see a horrible, terrible nagging future where your nuts are left on the trail of time. If she gets over it and laughs at it you have a wonderful future together.

A whole lot of words to say that Value Based Drafting is the only way to go. The key word is your draft the player with the most VALUE and not necessarily because he scores the most points. For example, Hasselbeck scores twice as much points as Tony Gonzolez - but Gonzolez has twice as much VALUE. If you do not understand this you are destined to lose your league - just give your money away. I would NEVER draft MAnning before the third round because I would be sacrificing too much value at other positions. I can pick up great value at QB in the rounds 5-7 while maximizing value at my other positions.

I use to live in London in '96-97 when the IRA started a new bombing campaign. ONe went off in close proximity to where I was. I was always worried that one would go off in the Tube and send the city into chaos (that city may rely upon mass transport more thanNYC). At least English law enforcement has prepared for incidents like this for decades due to the IRA. I only hope their expertise can save as many lives and tend to as many of the injured as possible.

This has gone on far enough. The UCC has always been a progressive church. The joke between Unitarian Universalists and the UCC is that the UCC is for UU's who want more Jesus. Many social/political movements have been born out of the UCC and they have always had an open-door policy. They even have a TV commercial with the messege that Jesus would never cast out specific classes of people. So if you are a social conservative the UCC may not be the church for you, but the UCC's door is open to you as well.

I bought one of their CD's recently (in abstencia). A friend asked me to desribe it and the best I could come up with was a mixture of Floyd, Kansas, and Alice in Chains. I will buy the other CD's as well. Great tip! -

Anyone know if there is video of the reunion anywhere? -
That is so frickin unrealistic! First, that Gorilla is Way too big! THe largest Gorilla on earth would only reach about 800lbs. Second, dinosuars! Aside from being unrealistic - it is cheesy. Dinosuars on an unknown island - hmmm. Is the Jane Goodall meets Jurassic Park? Third, what movie producer in the 30's would put everyone on a boat to film a movie in the middle of the Great Depression? Wouldn't the producers have something to say about the cost of that venture?

The counter argument to "liberal media"
slothrop replied to TPS's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Really? So large multi-national corporations would not have an interest in how the mass media portray (or don't) corporate scandals, the lack of critique of neoliberal economics, the civil justice system, etc.? Please. -
The Declaration of Independence
slothrop replied to OnTheRocks's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I think "that document" is a misguided proposal whipped together by a bunch of ideologues so as to draw media attention to themselves. -
Am I the only one who thinks the Philly
slothrop replied to 1billsfan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
While ignoring the fact that the fish is decomposed and diseased. P.S. We should start a campaign to see if we can get all the TSW topics thrown into hell, better known as PPP. -

Way to show your ignorance. So they are just supposed to lift themselves out of blinding poverty starvation and disease, organize themselves (when there is poor mass communication and ethnic conflict) and take on people with machine guns, helicopters, and tanks. Oh yeah, I forgot, its their fault - not the cultural, political, and geological ruins left from centuries of colonialism. -
Value Based Drafting takes care of that problem. I have placed in the top 3 in all my leagues since I have started using VBD. Value drafting has you taking a QB late because (other than Manning) the top 10-15 QB's are grouped very close together. Therefore you can wait and pick up more value on your roster. Best explanation of VBD and VBD tool is on footballguys.com.

Your Favorite (best) and worst President Ever?
slothrop replied to Buckey's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
I will declare my political outlook prior to the post. My political views are progressive, so here it goes: Best: - Lincoln: keeping the union together was a historical miracle (though I now wish he let the South go after blasting the into the third-world). - Kennedy: He jumps into the "Best" category with his handling of the Cuban Missle Crisis. I shudder to think what George W and Cheney would have done!!!! - FDR: Visionary and followed through on his vision. Lead country through WWII and the depression. Likely the toughest period the country endured since the Civil War. Worst: - Jackson: he set that standard for corruption and patronage - Harding: Teapot Dome Scandal - Grant: maybe the most inefective president ever and allowed the Rober barons to usher in the Gilded Age I did not list George W because I will admit that we need time to pass. But everything points to him joining Harding and Co.
