  1. The steps of the Capital looking out over the Mall towards the Potamac at / near sunset. First time I did that I had goosebumps the size that cant be described. Do it every time I'm in DC. Marine Corps silent drill team parade if you are going to be there tonight. You'll have to wait at the window to see if there are any unclaimed tickets - sold out all summer. (Ooops, you said Sunday. I'll leave it here anyway.)
  2. 8 May - Just received the news from the DR that the oncology report on the area of skin and lymph nodes removed is all negative. No signs of Mr. Ugly. Staples (17 of them) come out in 3 weeks. Just call me Zippy. Thanks to all for the good thoughts.
  3. Granted, the pilot can't see behind and underneath him, but at 10K+ feet in the air, a 9hr flight in front of you and you don't think twice about landing and checking it out????????????????? Linky
  4. Nice avatar.
  5. As someone that had a 5in length of skin removed from my leg last week due to melanoma, I wouldn't be taking skin cancer lightly.
  6. I'm the opposite, Crocs - yes, flip-flops - no. Maybe spend more than $1.50 on a pair of shoes and you might not have feet / back problems later in life.
  7. Sorry, wear them and love em. Can muck them up and hose them down. Wear them like sandals - no big deal.
  8. Just a point of reference, my vet said that supplements (human and animal) are not regulated like aspirin and the like. One brand may have a full dose and be very good and the other may just have trace elements and state that they are full strength.
  9. 28 Apr- Go in today for the lymph node survey and have the site excised.
  10. Wonder is Chuck Norris will bring a Total Gym to Wes when he is in the pen?

  12. Noticed it in C'bus OH.
  13. Don't forget Troy Smith is in this mix. Granted, it was the last game of the season last year, but I thought he had good command of the offense and had good pace to the game.
  14. I was going to suggest this when you were in the DC area, but they don't start until May. Marine Corps Silent Drill Team [Edit] NOTE: They are sold out on reserved sales already for 2008.
  15. Don't know if any of you have caught this or not, but the Indy - Bills game will open the new Lucas Oil stadium.
  16. Refund from state (received), payment to fed (today). Try to balance one against the other.
  17. My dad just had 2 installed - in series.
  18. Mole was biopsied and has been confirmed to be melanoma. Oncologist re-confirmed.
  19. Doc said that my excision will need a couple of staples. I joked that I wanted them to come from NASA not Home Depot. He did not laugh.

I'm writing this to all of you to make sure that you and your loved ones go and get a once over. It is important. I can say this because of what I found out yesterday. I have melanoma. 63,000 people are found with this each year, 8,000 die from it each year. Here's my story. After some (understatement) prodding from my wife, I got an annual physical last Nov. The doctor did a once over for unusual moles and noticed one that he said that I should see a dermatologist about. After some prodding again from wifey, I did just that. The mole in question turned out to be melanoma of which the oncologist confirmed yesterday. The site is classified as a Stage 2A tumor (over 1mm deep, mine measured 1.1mm). This "mole" had been with me for as long as I can remember. This area has to be excised (2cm on each side), plus I have to have a sentinel lymph node biopsy. The lymph node biopsy is to check to see if there is any cancer cells in the lymph node site where this specific "mole" would spread from. Surgery is for the end of the month. I am very positive about this and have no underlying fears or nerves. Why am I writing this? Because I have one request to each of you. I want each and everyone of you to get a physical this year, whether you like it or not. And make sure that your immediate family gets one as well. Also, take care of yourself. I feel that because I get 1HR of physical activity each day, eat pretty well, don't smoke, basically live a balanced life I should do just fine. In the end, I want all of us someday to see a Buffalo Bill on the top of a podium holding a Super Bowl trophy. So make the appointment.
  21. I can't disagree with you at all on this. I've tired of going to a game and have it turn out to be a stupid-fest. Worse situation was at The Shoe for the NC State - OSU game few years ago. As I had just moved to Columbus from Raleigh, I had a NC State shirt (color - red) on with a Block O hat, basically cheering for both sides as it was a good game. People around me were generally friendly to start - a bit of friendly give and take during the game. Noticed that bottles were passed even though there was screeners at the entrance. But, when it got into OT and OSU stopped NC State to win the game I had a couple of yahoos who I had benn talking with (and who had been taking their share of the bottle) get all up in face. I mentioned that I hoped that all OSU fans were not as beligerant as they were and told them good game. Had a couple of other close calls walking back to the car. In the end, I'll think twice about being impartial.
  22. Totally fogot about this last night when we visited the local BWWs. Guy at the table next to us must have thought that they were playing for the national championship. I did remind my wife that they were playing for the 66th best team in the country a bit louder than I should have. He simmered down a bit after that.
  23. Catherine Tramell ring a bell.
