What if Tyrod holds out for a better contract?
What a Tuel replied to HelloNewman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So they need to pay for all the players they need but not use the cap to do it? -
So you attribute Mario Williams stats to being wrong place wrong time? Always holding the edge so he could never make a tackle? BS. His teammates tripled his tackles under the same scheme. Corbin Bryant had 24 tackles to Williams 15 tackles with only 2/3rds of the games started. I don't buy it. I believe my eyes over the PR speak of coaches who have any number of reasons to not throw Mario under the bus when asked by a media person looking for controversy. The bottom line of it is that the stats show he gave up, the film shows he gave up, but you refuse to believe any of that because you think it is a conspiracy to let Rex off the hook. That's nonsense. Mario giving up was one of many problems with the defense.

Mario did quit on the team. It isn't a narrative. He quit. That doesn't explain away the rest of the defensive performance, it is just stating the facts - Mario quit. This narrative that he is a scapegoat is tiring. He did not play to the level of his fellow defensive lineman who were all playing under the same scheme.

Max Himmelrich@HimmelrichNFL Mario Williams will be taking a physical with the #Dolphins today. They want to make sure he checks out before contract discussion. https://twitter.com/HimmelrichNFL/status/706507097614069762 Max Himmelrich@HimmelrichNF This does not mean Mario Williams is signing in Miami. It simply means that they will be taking a deeper look today. https://twitter.com/HimmelrichNFL/status/706509259278692353

We have the worst cap situation in the league?
What a Tuel replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not sure if this has been posted. I agree with the conclusion of the article that criticism of our cap management is often coming down from a cursory glance that we are the same old bills despite trying to improve through expensive additions, and a total cap number that isn't representative of the whole picture, especially the post 2016 future http://www.buffalorumblings.com/buffalo-bills-analysis-all-22/2016/2/27/11120330/buffalo-bills-2016-salary-cap-criticism-joe-banner-anonymous-nfc-gm?utm_campaign=buffalorumblings&utm_content=article%2525253Atop&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook -
McCoy's nightclub fight and the ongoing investigation
What a Tuel replied to lowghen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know the end result but it kind of fits my point if it was true. We heard about it, there were the classic "we don't want thugs on our team" vs "we just want them to play football" arguments, and it just kind of went away. I don't think there were fines or suspensions. (If all of that was actually true, that is) -
McCoy's nightclub fight and the ongoing investigation
What a Tuel replied to lowghen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It isn't anything about cops being brutal or any of that nonsense. It is because for a civilian, a police officer usually comes from the position of authority, and knowing the rules. In a lot of people's minds, McCoy is already is in the wrong because he got into an altercation with a man of the law. Naive maybe, but the public isn't often informed of the whole picture, and is prone to making snap judgments. True, but I think it adds a sort of significance to it, that wouldn't have been there. We surely would have heard about it, but wasn't there a fight last year between some bills players at a bar? I can't recall the details, and I am pretty sure no one went to the hospital (which is also significant). Wish I could remember what happened. It disappeared pretty quickly though. -
McCoy's nightclub fight and the ongoing investigation
What a Tuel replied to lowghen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah but the NFL unfortunately reacts to public perception and for some reason the public perceives these white knights as getting jumped. Don't get me wrong, I am not one of those anti cop people, but there are some one sided accusations going on here, simply because they were cops. If they weren't cops, people would be a little more perceptive to the "guy that got beat was a drunken idiot" scenario. -
McCoy's nightclub fight and the ongoing investigation
What a Tuel replied to lowghen's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Setting aside McCoy, why hasn't his buddy been charged? Not nearly as high profile. You talk as if this is a open/shut case of a bunch of thugs attacking innocent people rather than a couple people with big egos going at it in a club. The only interest the NFL has in this is that they were off duty cops, because the public sees that. If the off duty cops were in the wrong - aka no charges are filed against McCoy and company, because the off duty cops started it, then the public drifts away and becomes disinterested, not more venomous. It certainly swayed me, and I thought initially that it was McCoy and his buddies flipping out about a bottle of champagne. -
Stephen Ross on Incognito bullying scandal
What a Tuel replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Have you read the texts? Incognito was simply the guy that made over the top jokes and wisecracks, but he was constantly texting Martin and asking him what he was up to, and should we go here or there? It certainly seemed like Incognito considered Martin a type of friend or at the very least colleague. Martin clearly couldn't handle his personality. Incognito is not someone I'd want to be buddies with, but in my opinion not everyone has to be my buddy for us all to coexist in the world. -
Sully embarrasses himself at the Super Bowl
What a Tuel replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why is he at the Super Bowl, and how did the BN scrape up the money to send him there? I'd be pissed if I were his co-workers. I think the problem is not with his opposing view point, but that his viewpoint is usually BS that is created to stir up unnecessary controversy in order to gain attention. It is his job, but that doesn't mean we have to like it or think it is good insight. I think both of you are looking past the fact that the people who want Sully gone, are likely hoping he is replaced by someone else who is better able to write about the Bills. -
Manipulated? Give me a break. They are adults who made informed decisions, and most would return to the job under the same conditions had the team let them. They did it for reasons that go beyond the $3,000-$6,000 a year. I am curious though, are the band that plays in place of them paid at all? Tough to tell because they give a range. $324,000 awarded 52 Cheerleaders $2,559-$5,913 depending on time worked At most the Lawyers got $187,578 (1 Cheerleader at $5,913, 51 Cheerleaders at $2,559) At least the Lawyers got $19,878 (51 Cheerleaders at $5,913, 1 Cheerleader at $2,559) So meet in the middle and say an average of $83,850 or 25%

Quirk in NFL Schedule according to professor
What a Tuel replied to bobobonators's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We lost by 3 on a terrible pick play. Sure we won't dwell on the non-call, but we didn't exactly get destroyed. How did New England do against the Giants? Eagles? Dolphins? A win over the dolphins may have given them the edge with homefield advantage today, and they could have been Super Bowl bound. -
NFL abandonment of St. Louis ups the ante in Buffalo
What a Tuel replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
What is the difference between 16 and 20? Fans are suddenly going to come to their senses? I'm still wondering how if we go with your theory that greed is the main factor here, why winning within 2 years would make Pegula change his mind about moving? It is clearly more profitable in places like LA. Why does winning change his greed? You think he would get swept up in the glory of winning? I just don't get it. Moving doesn't mean he will win more so.... Also the idea that a new generation of Bills fans that won't accept losing won't buy tickets, and they are replacing the ones that will (16 years) within even the next 5 years is ridiculous. I understand you think it makes sense in your head, but it just doesn't work like that, and as others have said, ticket sales are a small part of the equation. -

What a Tuel replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If greed is the motivating factor what would winning do? Sell more tickets? I am not sure that is what Owner's have in mind when they want to move. They have a number of other reasons to move besides increasing ticket sales, and none of these would be accomplished by winning. A new stadium in the area might, but winning by itself? no. -
History Repeats Itself -- and it's confusing
What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
16 games 2014 Mario Williams 36 Tackles 14.5 sacks Dareus 35 Tackles 10 sacks Kyle Williams 31 Tackles 5.5 sacks Hughes 36 Tackles 5.0 sacks Sack production was all that was down. Tackles were actually up by the D line outside of Mario Williams which was the point. He stopped trying after the bye week. Something surely made him stop trying, but if you don't believe me or the stats, then watch the Eagles/Redskins games. -

What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And the Patriots beat us silly in week 6 last year as well 37-22 Brady 361 yards 4 tds. Where was our defense that week? As for injuries, whether you believe it or not, they were there, they are a factor, and they did affect the team. As did Mario Williams taking off the last 7-8 games. How come everyone else on the D Line can get tackles but him? Just his bad luck I guess. I am sure he will be just fine on another team which sucks, but he should have played to his ability no matter the scheme. No one is nonchalant about the defense not doing as well this year, we just aren't freaking out about it like you are. Despite lacking a pass rush and being 31st in the league in sacks, they were just 15th in points per game. Worse than last year? Yes. End of the world? No. Adjustments will be made, players will be acquired, and we will move on to next year. -

What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I suggest looking at the drive charts for this year. Outside of Patriots 1, and Bengals, Redskins (Where Williams most visibly gave up) the drive charts for the defense look similar to what you are touting as good. The defense was worse than last year, but was by no means awful, terrible, garbage, or any other derogatory remark people can think of. And of course don't even mention the injuries because those don't count. -
History Repeats Itself -- and it's confusing
What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Of course it is upsetting we didn't make the playoffs with all the hype. I don't disagree that the defense got worse this year under Rex, but I don't subscribe to the idea that Rex is lost, and that the defense can't get better next year either. I also don't follow the hyperbolic statements that Rex needs to go. The defense did play good at certain points of the year no matter what anyone says about sacks, and I can't imagine the defense playing the same or worse without the amount of injuries we had. Another year under his system, additional pieces for his scheme, and not to mention the offense starting to gel, and maybe we get a couple more wins next year. Yeah, I don't think addition by subtraction is the way to go either. And the only reason I think it is time for Mario Williams to go is because I looked at the games on game pass, and he wasn't putting his full effort out there. Whether that's Rex's fault or not, the guy should have played, and he lost a lot of my respect. If you have complaints about the scheme, then fine, but do your job to the best of your abilities anyway, and the blame won't fall on you. Who knows what would've happened if he came to play against Philly or Washington. -

What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's true some Bills fans do that, but other fans exaggerate and magnify current failures and put the blame of the drought squarely on whoever they can find/makes the most sense in their mind. (Ex. Give Rex a chance to create his program, and attempt to create something for us? Impossible, he didn't do it in year 1, so he won't ever - 16 years!!!!) It's fine if people hate Rex because the defense got worse, but this team was 8-8 this year, you would think it was 3-13 the way people are acting. Next year will be better, and there are reasons for hope, despite the assurances of the naysayers. -
History Repeats Itself -- and it's confusing
What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the point was that Mario Williams should have been a grown up who made more than anyone else on the team, and do his job even if it doesn't suit his style. No one argues the defense was worse than last year. People argue that like Dareus, or Hughes, Mario should have put full effort in. How anyone can say he did, or that it's Rex's fault he didn't, or even worse it's Rex's fault he didn't pull Mario for not doing it, is ridiculous. That is why they will use Mario Williams as a scapegoat, because he actively didn't try. Maybe he got wind they were going to cut him, who knows, but he should have done his job to his full potential. -

Worst D since Wannstedt but better than Pettine's in PPG ("only defensive metric that matters")? Our D was worse than last year, but certainly better than people give it credit for. But that isn't popular right now because Rex is a guy that a person can just love to hate. Mario may be a scapegoat but it is by his own doing. -

What a Tuel replied to Vinaccia's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The defense actually played very well against the Titans, Giants, Jaguars, Colts, Pats 2, Dolphins 1 and 2, Jets 1 and 2 despite the lack of sacks. No one will admit it though. Against the Giants, one play defined that loss, and it wasn't scheme, it was a missed tackle. Jaguars, despite Manuel spotting them 20 points the defense held them to 14 points. As for Mario, statistically Mario gave up after the BYE week, and although I am sure his complaints about scheme are valid, I wonder what would've happened those last 9 games if he had played. Not playing sure hurt worse than scheme. Post Bye Week (9 games - Mario 8 games) Mario 5 tackles (2 sacks) Dareus 21 tackles (1 sack) Bryant 15 tackles (0 sacks) Hughes 23 tackles (4 sacks) Pre Bye Week Mario (7 games) Mario 10 tackles (3 sacks) Dareus 17 tackles (1 sack) Williams/Bryant 19 tackles (0 sacks) Hughes 14 tackles (1 sack) -
49ers Hire Chip Kelly as New HC
What a Tuel replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
but that 26-21 record means ol chip is a Belichick! edit .482 to .553 doesn't put Chip on the "much, much, better" track. Especially with the number of years discrepancy. Also Rex Ryan had a .583 record his first three years.
