The two quotes from Whaley in the article. Not sure how you can infer anything about luck from those statements. Or any narrative of not being thrilled with Tyrod Taylor either, as someone else already posted the context of the article which was just a reflection on the 2011 draft. "When we first started the draft process, we thought we'd have a good shot at Newton," Whaley told Sports Illustrated for its oral history of the 2011 draft. "[stanford quarterback] Andrew Luck, had he come out, would have been the first pick. Denver was at No. 2, and they didn't need a QB. So we thought, 'We'll get Cam at No. 3.'" "When Von went to Denver, everyone [in our draft room] had big smiles, everyone stood up," Whaley told SI. "We had Marcell rated over Von. I was like, 'Don't even listen to the [trade offers coming in], just turn that card in.'" http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25567414/gm-explains-how-andrew-luck-spoiled-bills-plan-to-draft-cam-newton

As with Sammy Watkins, he isn't the devil for not going to completely meaningless weight lifting sessions. Although he may have had more reason to since he is on a new team. The reason he is the devil is because he quit on his team. Everyone can argue that he was told to stand there and seal up the edge, etc, but the bottom line is that his stats show out of the last 8 games he played with the Bills, he had 4 blank stat lines, and 2 games with 1 tackle each. I guess teams were running plays on the other side of the incredible effort he was putting in. I mean it's undeniable.

Wow, I didn't even hear about this. I found the thread though. This...this changes everything.... -

I would agree with half and half, with one half being influenced by residual feelings about "little jobs" and disneyland. -

Damn straight! Would he have shown up if he wasn't reading this thread going " I better get to voluntary workouts"? I think not! -

I'm not paying Sammy anything. I am also fairly certain he isn't doing his conditioning at planet fitness all offseason, but who knows, maybe he is. The fans don't matter in that regard. They have already been proven to be unreliable, fickle, and quick to turn on anyone. As for the players, no one knows what Watkins said to his teammates, or whether or not he has been working out with them in the offseason at all. Curious if Watkins would be getting the same love as Taylor if his agent was talking up new contracts. Pretty sure the fans would say "it's his agent, he must be involved with it". But I guess we will find that out next year. You say its not a huge deal now, but it is opening himself to potential backlash. We can agree on that. The disagreement is on whether or not it is warranted from the fans who have the least amount of insight into the matter. -

He certainly can. 1. We have yet to see how he will lead once camp actually starts. You don't know what he has said to his teammates to excuse his absence. 2. Same as above. Ignoring the hate mail is easier said than done, but yes he should ignore it. The point was that it isn't crazy for a 21-22 year old kid to lash out at people questioning every aspect of his character. 3. This is assuming he doesn't work out on his own, and do his own conditioning. Of course the time he missed a workout was certainly the cause. -

Sure you can, but I can just imagine this snowballing into a huge deal from people who won't be as lighthearted about it. -

Doesn't seem so easy when you are railed on for taking your kids to disneyland, and not immediately returning for a voluntary workout after hanging out with friends at a casino and helping out at a kids youth camp. Far be it for a 21-22 year old kid to irrationally lash out for said criticism because he isn't doing exactly what those fans of the "kids game" would like to see. But these "adults" sure do keep holding it against him, it really shows they have the moral high ground. -
Except the rest of the D line (even backups) out performed him by a wide margin. Mario's effect may have been hindered by the way he was being used, but he neutralized himself to being mostly invisible, and a blank stat line the 2nd half of the season through his effort or lack thereof. Great way of putting it.
-
Exactly. Mario may have been used incorrectly, but it didn't completely neutralize him as it didn't completely neutralize the rest of the D Line that outperformed him. He could have put some effort in and from there who knows what would've, could've, should've happened. Not all his fault, but his lack of effort certainly was.

The Prediction Thread

10 of the 16 games were one score games, including 2 losses against the Patriots by a combined 3 points. 2 out of the 6 were against the Bills which were a combination of Geno/Vick giving away one game, and the Jets secondary being awful in the other. The remaining 4 games were: a beatdown by the Chargers (who if I remember correctly, beat down the vaunted Schwartz Bills defense exactly the way you describe) a loss to the Chiefs by 2 scores a loss to the Broncos by 2 scores a win against the Dolphins -
That's a good way to look at it. The whole idea of counting any game that has any semblance of difficulty as a loss is tired and annoying to me. Some of the games will be difficult for sure, but we will compete. Why the heck is Pats vs Texans a "top primetime game?"

I think Bills are planning a move up in the draft
What a Tuel replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think you have to look past the draft value and into each team's respective situations. Trading Tyrod for the 2nd overall pick would leave us with a rookie qb at the very least or Manuel. The Browns, assuming they have faith in Griffin, would have 2 first rounds (19th and 31st) and a 2nd round pick, and a extra player from Denver to build around Griffin. Denver would be trading much more than I think they'd ever want to for Taylor not to mention a player, so yeah they'd be getting hosed. -
B/R: Broncos have inquired about Tyrod
What a Tuel replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
But the Packers aren't in "win now" mode! They could make a killing off trading their only QB to the SB Champ Broncos, and grab one cheap in the draft! it would be brilliant! -

What a Tuel replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Moved on from "I don't know, he just seems off, and isn't very good compared to the other top WR's" to "he is going to the highest bidder, so who cares" I see. Did Sammy kick your dog or something? As for Tyrod, there is no way the Bills trade him. Everyone here is obviously skeptical, but this team isn't in rebuilding mode, and there is no way we give away our QB, and throw a rookie into the fire in September. -

God damn Pagano and his hot air. Why doesn't he just shut up and coach? http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000131133/article/ed-reed-will-coach-one-day-says-ravens-gm-newsome Same with the respected Ozzie Newsome, don't you have GMing to do? Predicting potential coaches....smh -

I was going to post the same thing. The defense actually performed great for a number of those games and kept us in them. They kept us in against Manning, they saved us in the Titans game, they kept us in the game against the Jaguars, and the Eagles game was rather close too. Not as good as 2014 but they weren't remotely bad outside of a few games. -
If he was a crony, he was a good crony and Rex is an idiot for firing him. If he wasn't a crony, then Rex is the ultimate player in nepotism, and does it to the detriment of the team. They make it up as they go along. It happens with agendas.
