You think he will stop playing at age 30? Maybe his effectiveness is decreased, and there may be some talk of being worth the price tag, but I guarentee he is on some NFL team until 31 at least.

What is better, no guns, or more guns?
What a Tuel replied to Security's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Is this just the bill to block people on the terrorist watch list? They wish to set a precedent that they can restrict constitutional right with little or no evidence. It would only be a matter of time until they created a no-gun list. -
The theoretical stuff is great and all, but how does disarming the public help in this case? I guess you could say the government would never become tyrannical and therefore the 12,000 lives a year would be worth the trade off, but a lot of people respectfully disagree. Then it is also debatable of how many of those 12,000 lives a year would actually be saved. Think Progress which is a pretty large anti gun propaganda machine published an article saying there were 235,000 cases over a 5 year period (or 47,000 a year) in which a civilian used or threatened the use of a gun when a violent crime was being committed against them. How many of those 47,000 people would be alive today if it weren't for the gun they had or even the threat of a gun?

Topic of the day for Sunday 6/12--EJ Manuel
What a Tuel replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
To be fair, and also to be clear, I am super critical of Manuel in this game but that last series went like this: Manuel throws for 6 yards makes it 2/4 Manuel scrambles for 6 yards makes it 1/10 Manuel throws for 9 yards makes it 2/1 McCoy runs for no gain makes it 3/1 Manuel QB Sneak -1 yards makes it 4/2 Manuel throws incomplete turnover on downs. Manuel had a nice rally there, and I think McCoy should have really gotten that first down to keep the momentum going. Yes Manuel had 2 subsequent attempts to keep it going, but it was 1 damn yard McCoy! 1 yard. -
RD 1, Pick 19: DE Shaq Lawson, Clemson University

Like selecting Dominque Easley in the 1st round in 2014 when he had just torn an ACL? Was this conventional thinking? Should the Bills follow suit? By definition the Patriots draft strategy is "by the seat of their pants". They constantly trade down and assume they will get whoever they get. They constantly pick up QB's on a gamble. The biggest reason for their success was a guy they let pass them by 5 times before deciding "since we are smarter than everyone else, now we will take this potential HOF QB for great value!". (that was sarcasm, they had no idea Brady would become who he became) -
We have the most guns per capita of any country. If anyone stands a chance, we would (if we weren't too busy being content and lazy in this internet/entertainment age). Not sure if you are pro restricting guns, but I am not willing to give a government that has done those things even more control over me and eliminating their fear of retribution. It'll probably never happen, but it is a safeguard, and likely a safeguard the founding fathers put in place on purpose knowing what a tyrannical overbearing government could do seeing as how they were busy overthrowing one themselves.

Man, the headline made me laugh so hard. Then reading the article made me so disappointed that people actually believe this nonsense that I had to stop. The irony in this statement is so amazing.

RD 1, Pick 19: DE Shaq Lawson, Clemson University
What a Tuel replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Whaley is drafting based on the players he determines he wants or needs. If you think Lawson would have lasted into the early 2nd round, Whaley still wouldn't have gotten his guy. Sure he would have X player he drafted in the first, but he obviously placed Lawson at a higher grade than the others. So you have to separate a very short term injury from the long term prospect, Whaley did that, and it was the right thing to do. If he believed Darron Lee or even Myles Jack were rated higher, or would fit better with the team, he obviously would have picked one of them, but he didn't. He picked Shaq. Now again you have to separate long-term impact from draft rankings because as you said GM's make mistakes and the rankings are hardly ever accurate. Time will tell that aspect of the pick, and Whaley will be praised or criticized depending on the outcome. Right now we are trying to criticize with incomplete information and guess work based on usually wrong rankings. Like I said earlier, if you want to rail on Whaley for picking a guy that will miss the first half of his rookie season, go for it. I respectfully disagree, and hope Whaley makes his draft choices with the long term health of the team in mind. -

So what does it take to fix this? -
Does this line of questioning typically end in a denial that a slippery slope for gun laws exists? Handguns kill far more people in the United States than Assault Weapons. Like 98-99% handgun to 1-2% Assault Weapons. People are upset about gun violence and are seeking to solve the problem through assault weapon bans but promise not to take away handguns which are the weapon used to commit the violence.....

Looks like there was room under the bus for Clay.
What a Tuel replied to 4merper4mer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So you are attributing idiot reporter's words to Rex now? I mean you are making some kind of amazing leap here. A reporter's ignorance of football, who Charles Clay is, and that you can have 2 tightends on a team is all attributable to goofball Rex. Who cares if it makes sense, Rex Ryan is belittling Clay god damnit! -

You say this "Yes, the overall production of a player rather than immediate production is far more important, but a pre-existing injury does have an effect on a player's value.", and this " I'd argue that there was so you misstated the actual choice the Bills had. It wasn't: lesser, uninjured player vs. Lawson. It was: effectively equivalent talent vs, Lawson." and then I think you completely miss the point. The point was that Whaley, the GM of the Buffalo Bills did not think there was equivalent talent or that the injury equated to enough production lost to take him down on the draft board. Whether that winds up being true, or not time will tell. Then you go on to say "It wasn't: lesser, uninjured player vs. Lawson. It was: effectively equivalent talent vs, Lawson". "But the reality is that no GM knows for certain which players will bust and which will be high performers." You are effectively saying that you ranked and rated at least a few players at the same or equivalent level as Lawson, and yet Whaley who has had leagues more access to these players can't possibly know for sure, and couldn't have possibly had Lawson ranked above the others? Why? Because of some consensus somewhere? Shouldn't the Bills be utilizing this book of sure things, since GM's certainly can't tell right? Either way, I am glad Whaley isn't making short term decisions on the whims of fans who want to see a 1st round pick start the first 6-8 games although they likely hoped it would wait until the offseason. I trust that the value Whaley got in Lawson will be enough to warrant the missed time, and if it isn't then Whaley will be rightly criticized for his draft picks. -

The reporter wrote it based on some combination of a lack of knowledge of football, the bills history, and the fact that he probably has never heard of Clay. I mean come on man. -
Well let's look at it. Carpenter missed 6 extra points, and 4 field goals last year. Working backwards 4 out of the 6 missed extra points we ended up winning anyway. A few of us may have had minor heart attacks but we came out with wins. The remaining 2 missed extra points were against the Chiefs in which we lost 30-22, and the Patriots in which we lost 40-32. Maybe momentum changes if we don't miss in either of those games, maybe it doesn't. Hard to tell. As for field goals, out of the 4 missed, 2 still resulted in wins. The remaining two field goals were against the Giants in which we lost 24-10, and the Patriots in which we lost 20-13. While making either of them may have changed the momentum, neither were game changing in a scoring sense. Then you have the field goals that were not attempted because they didn't have faith in Carpenter. This is where I call it quits because I have to get something done today. But if anyone knows a site that maps out where we punted from each game, we could probably tell exactly where we could've tried a field goal with someone like Aguayo rather than punting because of Carpenter.
-
yeah, but we are mixing points now. Those players were in relation to total points scored being a good indicator of the value of a player or position. As for selecting a kicker in the 1st round, time will tell for the impact of Shaq Lawson, but he is just as proven in the NFL as Aguayo. Of course Shaq is set back with his injury, but the chance of Shaq having a significant impact for the bills throughout his contract is greater than the talent gap between Carpenter and Aguayo.
-
Right but Janikowski didn't turn the tide for the Raiders with his large amount of points scored as is suggested by the OP. In fact after the Raiders drafted Janikowski in 2000 the raiders exceeded 8-8 just three times (2000,2001,2002). Do you think the Raiders make the same pick if they had a redo? Edit: Granted they did go to the Super Bowl one of those years.
-
So let's get this straight. If you could go back in time and have your choice of 1 player for the Bills, you would take Janikowski (1,675 points scored) over Peyton Manning (539), Tom Brady (428), Drew Brees (428)? Let alone Ray Lewis who had a measly 18 points scored over his career? Not saying Shaq compares in value to any of these guys, but points scored proves it right? Facts are facts. Data is skewed when it comes to kickers.

Shouldn't they be putting those transgender "women" in the women's prison? Or shouldn't they at least have a choice? What if they are uncomfortable in a men's prison since they think they are a woman? It isn't about just peeing next to someone. It is allowing it to be a free for all that anyone can do at a whim and not be removed that causes privacy concerns. That and where to draw the line at locker rooms and other more personal areas.

Oh geez, you have some communication issues. You said the Chiefs did better because Charles wasn't playing. I simply said I don't want to get into that, because it's mostly speculative. But since you do, he isn't the reason that KC had a rough start. Their defense allowing 3 consecutive 30+ point games might have had something to do with it. Here's a visual just so you can see that the Chiefs defense actually doing something was the difference, not Jamaal freaking Charles being injured. With Charles: 20 points allowed (win) 31 points allowed (loss) 38 points allowed (loss) 36 points allowed (loss) 18 points allowed (loss) Without Charles: 16 points allowed (loss) 13 points allowed (win) 10 points allowed (win) 13 points allowed (win) 3 points allowed (win) 22 points allowed (win) 20 points allowed (win) 3 points allowed (win) 14 points allowed (win) 13 points allowed (win) 17 points allowed (win) As for the "how many years should I go back to suit my point", we will have to agree to disagree. The fact that you think that 4th year back is super valid, but the 5th year back is just too long ago is laughable though. As for someone else scoring TD's, Chip Kelly put other RB's in that situation, I watched it constantly in 2014. The year before he scored a healthy 11 TDs. You say he didn't adapt to....something. I say the coach that traded him used him in a different way. These next few seasons will tell though.

Marrone Mic'd Up at Jags Practice
What a Tuel replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
1 year at 6-10. 1 year at 9-7 living off Schwartz Defense. And then he just walked away. I am not saying he is the worst ever, but his situation does deserve unique criticism. -
Ugh, I don't want to get into the Chiefs amazing turnaround from 1-5, to 10-0, even though I brought the Chiefs up, suffice to say it was not because Charles was out. Correlation does not imply causation. But they can feel free to give him to us if he is such a detriment to them winning. As for the contract, the Chiefs paid $9 million a year to extend a back into his "twilight" years (29-30), which people tell me is an awful idea because RB's expire around 27-28. The Bills sign LeSean McCoy at age 26 for a 5 year contract worth $8 million a year, and it's ill-advised. We already discussed McCoy becoming a "4.3 ypc" player. You chose to ignore the years he wasn't out of convenience. They were "too far away, or long ago". McCoy is a 4.6 ypc player who tends to do better when he isn't injured. Proven by subsequent and consistent upswings in his ypc when he has an injury free season (2010, 2011, 2013). When he was injured and missed at least a quarter of the season his ypc's declined to 4.2 on average. Then he had his last year with Chip Kelly which he had notable disagreements with, and we can observe an increased use of Sproles, and Polk in their backfield. (Yet still had a 1,319 yard season, but only 4.2 ypc)

Marrone Mic'd Up at Jags Practice
What a Tuel replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nate Hackett for starters. Buffalo Bills Doug Marrone - Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett - Offensive Coordinator Jacksonville Jaguars Doug Marrone - Offensive Line Coach Nathaniel Hackett - Quarterbacks Coach Those two were out of their league on the Bills. -
I think Jamaal Charles is a better back than McCoy, but I wonder if there are Chiefs fans out there calling for the dumping of Charles and putting Spencer Ware in there. He had more YPC's, and 50% more TDs than the sluggish, oft-injured 29 year old Charles!
