You're shifting the goal posts here. This isn't something the the slow hands of time have shifted the perception of. This is a piece of language with a nearly 200 year history of common and benign understanding whom the offended are insisting we magically imbue with new meaning, right this second, in order to justify their desire to feel offended and aggrieved. It absolutely matters because the players are making a public appeal in order to consolidate power to advance a political agenda.

It would be a fantastic luxury, but I don't think Tolbert has performed poorly enough in the role that it leaps to the forefront of my concerns.
