"Fear: Trump in the White House"
TakeYouToTasker replied to ALF's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Woodward started as an investigative journalist, but has become little more than a court historian in an environment where direct access to the powerful (and all the trimming it affords) has replaced actual digging for hard stories in order to speak truth to power. Woodward has, over time, become absorbed into the machine that he once fought against; and the President has attacked that machine. Woodward is being deployed against the President, as such, because he is a useful tool to propagandize those who haven't yet come to realize that this isn't about party affiliation. It is about a President, the first of your lifetime and mine, who isn't a Washington insider, but rather is hostile towards them; and is attempting to tear down the corruption, and in some cases abject evil, which runs rampant amongst the government elite and to those they have given access as members of their royal court. -
Mhmmm... It appeared that it needed to be, because it wasn't mentioned. edit: I'm not ignoring you in the other thread. I have a pretty full calendar today, and haven't had the time to give your post the thoughtful reply it deserves. I will, however.

The money isn't actually spent on "hammers" and "toilet seats". The money is spent on black ops. "Hammers" and "toilet seats" is how it's accounted for.

The Mizzou/Yale/PC/Free Speech Topic
TakeYouToTasker replied to FireChan's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
You're painting with broad brush strokes, and haven't articulated an argument. The author of the OpEd made a declarative positive statement, sans evidence (his "sources" are little more than OpEd's themselves, drawing on data absent context, exclusionary of other evidence undermining their position), and you have taken up his mantle. Thus, it falls to you to make the author's case. Once you've done so, I'll critique it, and state my counter argument. -

Are we ramping up to war with North Korea?

I've always said to just let them. Hunger is a tremendous motivator, and ultimately solves the problem on it's own. -

I've never told this story here before. I rarely tell it at all to be honest, though I think about it frequently. On the night of September 10th, 2001 I was sitting on a barstool in downtown Providence with close friends to the left and right of me, lining nearly the entire left bend of a medium length "L" shaped bar. I was 24 years old. It was an old haunt called Steam Alley, and it's not there anymore. It was about 9 o'clock PM, and while we had already downed a few drinks, a few drinks were nothing that would slow us down in the morning in our early 20s. One of my friends, still one of my best to this day, said he had to leave because he had an early business flight out to the west coast. We were all mostly fresh out of school at that point, and hadn't been working real, career oriented jobs for that long. Matt and myself were the only two of us who had ever had to fly for work at that point in our young careers, though I flew very infrequently, and we started giving him a hard time because it came across as boastful; we were young, and hadn't yet come to resent being away from home, stuck in holes like Cleveland for weeks at a time. Matt was excited though, because he was flying to California; and it was part of an opportunity he had been given to work on a project with some of his senior staff members. He was excited. But, we razzed him anyway. We managed to keep him there for another 45 minutes or so, but his insisting "just one more then I really have to go," came to an abrupt end after 3 more beers, and he asked for his tab. He was flying out of Logan rather than Providence, because there were no direct flights out of TF Green to Los Angeles until later in the morning, and he wanted to travel with his colleagues. I had a pretty good buzz on at the time, and made some terrible quip about his plane landing in the ocean, and Matt turned green. He was always nervous about flying, and is, to this day, wildly superstitious; and he punched me dead in my chest. Then he laughed, called me an !@#$, crumbled up his tab, and ordered a round of drinks for the group. We stayed at the bar drinking until midnight, and Matt changed his flight to fly out of Providence later in the day on the 11th. The plane Matt was scheduled to be on, American Airlines flight 11, crashed into the North Tower.

A stiff arm should never be the best play your quarterback makes.
