  1. Matter, great idea for a thread. Thanks, and I like you defended you’re position on pressure rates.
  2. That graph was really cool. I didn’t realize how accurate Carpenter was while here. Everyone retires from professional sports at some point, but was a great teammate while here.
  3. Well said Hondo. Case in point, the Ravens were always the top in the power rankings, yet they lost their playoff game for two years straight. Then again, the same could be true for their record. One metric I like is that we have played more winning teams this year, and should end up with more wins against winning teams by the end of the year, so hence they are battle hardened. Barring significant injuries down the stretch, I like our chances in the playoffs.
  4. Don, are you just trying to torch me? 🤣. I live here and it was not hard enough for me to root for Brady, but I have so many friends here, I want them to have a winning team again. The notion of trying to support a Belichick team is too painful to consider, so he’ll no. Besides Arians isn’t getting fired. They just stood toe to toe with the Chiefs, losing 27-24, but a nice comeback for the Bucs. I don’t think it’s a gimme Peterson is fired. It’s possible, not an absolute. The others are probably a lock. GB, not sure on McCarthy as he may get a pass because of Dak out for most of the year. If he repeats next year, then I would say yes. Anyway, GB nice write up and very well thought out. Someone on another thread asked about posting. For this guy who asked about how to post, I would say read GB’s post here as it is exactly what TSW guys enjoy reading even if people disagree. It’s thought provoking, thoughtful, and lots of good information.
  5. Even when healthy, we traditionally whether this year or previous ones, McD’s defensive scheme usually goes to a nickel defense. I’m not opposed to a healthy team doing some base defense if we are opposing a run heavy team, but even in the TN example mentioned above, they keep Henry in check in the last game. We just had too many turnovers and a short field making it nearly impossible to win. Their Star WR torched us. This thread does beg a reasoned answer so thank you.
  6. Thanks Shady for sharing as I wouldn’t have seen it.
  7. The Bucs/Chiefs game which is going on right now. As a matter of fact, the Chiefs came out swinging going 17 unanswered points, but now the Evans TD gets Tampa back in it 27-24. There is only about 4 minutes left so we’ll see. Not just because I like the Bucs, but a Chiefs loss is always a good thing.
  8. Thanks for the recap Hap. I too like Simms as he breaks things down pretty well, and I don’t always agree. At least he gives substantive reasons for his opinions. It’s annoying some hosts uses regurgitated ideas without putting any facts behind their opinions.
  9. JG, this looks like it took quite a bit of work. Thanks for making the effort, and agreed Beane has done a good job. I don’t know how you can combine drafting, trading, and acquiring free agents as it’s so subjective. Simply, we had one of the hardest schedules in the NFL this year, have played more winning teams than just about anyone, and are still 8-3. Thats pretty good from an eyeball test. Seriously, JG, you did a nice job.
  10. All kidding aside, it’s a PT exercise as one of the guys posted usually for disc issues.
  11. That doesn’t normally happen. The mods do enough. All of us can simply google records, schedule, etc. I don’t expect them to do this and usually comes up from someone every year. Also, in the off season, once the schedule comes out, someone always asks the mods to put it on the board. The thing is these guys basically volunteer their time for years, and they have lives, jobs, families, so I don’t expect them to do this regularly. You’re request is not a bad one so I’m not criticizing the request. I just appreciate all of the positives they perform on this board, and a lot of stuff they have to put up with from a certain group of people. No worries Quinn. Have. Good night, and enjoy the game tonight.
  12. Most power rankings have us most of the season at 4th-6th. Honestly, the only metric that matters to me is wins/losses. Next Monday night we’ll be 9-3. I can easily see 12-4 this year. I’ve contended we will finish 11-5 this year, but starting to hope this will be a 12-4 year. As the football gods always say, you’re ranking is 0-0 once you make it to the dance. The Ravens have proven this point these last couple of years. Who cares what the Athletic author thinks?
  13. Happy they found a way to get him used to his strengths. Now that Milano is practicing, they may be able to use Milano in a pitch count to ease him back this Monday so we can try more base defense against Pittsburgh. A good problem to have, but I wouldn’t expect sweeping changes as the abills strategy has been all along to have a nickel defense.
  14. There is no comparison. The Eagle are an aging team, with serious cap issues. Wentz unfortunately, has tried too hard to save the franchise, but has been beaten up along the way. We have a franchise QB, and a team built over four years for long term success. I’m not up for another we suck thread, as is dumb. Maybe after the year, we can shape the conversation on the team and what needs to be done. for now, I’m in.
  15. Well it wouldn’t be a Thursday if I didn’t say, STOP YELLING AT ME! Merry early Christmas buddy. Now let’s kick the 9ers butts Monday. I can definitely see 9-3.
  16. Donuts, you’re whacky! You son of a gun. It’s like the girl in high school you don’t know if they are up for the dance Saturday until Friday. Not that Mercy, Frontier, or Immaculata girl did that to me. Can you tell I’m southtowns. At least I’m not a scourge like Timon guys. Just kidding, I know you already know you’re not as good as Frannies guys. 👍😏
  17. You mean the Kyle Williams, for a 1 yard touchdown, if you took 3 seconds to google it in 2918. That one? Google works if you weren’t trying to be a butthead. You see every real Bills fan knows it. Would you like me to copy so you look like a moron? C’mon, don’t be dumb. Every Bills fan knows this play. You know, real Bills fans.
  18. Victory, that’s an easy mistake so no worries bud. For a point of reference, it was a trade with Hotlanta where he wasn’t really doing anything. The above posts have nailed it. Steelers, Packers, Ravens, Chiefs, and I would add the Hawks. My reasoning on the Hawks, they have drafted pretty well with LBers, obviously Russel Wilson, and Metcalf. I just like how Carrol is not afraid to take chances. To the OP, you seem to be sincere not trying to turn this into a Beane bashing thread, and I appreciate it. I like what Beane has done these last few years, and reminds me of Polian. Not comparing the two, but Polian used to say on Late Hits on his weekly spot he tracked his drafts from the beginning. It was a somewhat vague response, but this HOF GM building three different teams stated his hit rate on drafting players was 57%. I respect that guy, and what he did for the Bills, Panthers, and Colts was amazing. So I guess my point is not scoring on every pick is not necessarily a bad thing as long as you hit more than miss. The one thing bad teams do is trying to be good too fast by buying expensive free agents and they don’t fit into a scheme approach. A good example is it isn’t a drafting one, but what has OBJ done for Cleveland? Not a lot because they didn’t have an overarching strategy. The teams above seem to draft the best players, and know what they want their team to look like. They have an approach and vision. It’s not by accident, the Chiefs, Ravens, Steelers, Packers, and I would add us these last three years have fielded competitive teams.
  19. Agreed, Daboll has made a name for himself across NFL writers for not just trick plays, up his style of play calling. Personally, I like the trickery plays. Wasn’t it cool when Kyle caught that TD pas before he retired. That was classy how McD and Daboll called that for Kyle. I probably like it because it seems to work most of the time. I don’t if you could call some of the end around McKenzie as trick plays, but I love when they work. I know it didn’t work for the Chargers game, but it has worked for quite often these past couple of years. I was really happy we retained him this year. Makes me wonder if we go to 7 next year adding Hodgins into the active roster vs. practice squad. It could be fun having two big bodies out there. We don’t seem to use our TE’s well for a variety of reasons so going down to 3 and adding a FB could be good. I still think one of the running problems we’ve had is not just the O Line, but losing DiMarco as a lead blocker. He may have been more valuable than earlier thought. Kind of like we including me underestimating Star.
  20. Well Sal pointed out the Bills defense for all the rantings have taken away the number one weapon of the opposing team. DK Metcalf, Derrick Henry, etc. Even though we sacrificed the run against KC, we still keep Mahomes completely in check. So I expect they will try and stop the run so once one dimensional, Mullins will be pressured and make mistakes against White, Poyer, and Hyde. I’d love to see a few Safety blitzes with Poyer. He is so good when they make that call. The game won’t be easy, but I do expect next Tuesday we’ll be 9-3. It. Just might be tighter than some think.
  21. Well he’s our sack leader with 5 and the team is on pace for around 46 sacks. Not great, but also not horrible. It would be nice to rack up the pace with a much more aggressive style than they started in the beginning of the season.
  22. Zero, with those teams, I would add the Jets and Philly if the coach is fired. The Jets owners would need to give a lengthy contract to anyone of substance as. They are in a long term rebuild, and Philly is so far over the cap, and Wentz has regressed with an aging team. It’s why I just don’t see a high end talent who is able to take his pick, would to you’re point Zero, want Houston, or LA. A head coach is so far ahead when they have a solid QB,and cap space especially next year with. The cap almost assured dropping to $175 mil.
  23. Living here, I don’t know what to believe. When interviewed Arians emphatically states Brady is choosing his plays he likes and they call them in the game. That is diametrically opposed to Arians historically liking a QB who throws downfield, whereas Brady has made a name for himself throwing short, and accurate passes. Until lately, I thought. Brady was doing fine, just getting in sync with his receivers which was expected in the beginning of the season. He’s just so inaccurate downfield, yet they keep trying it. I love the Bills, and like the Bucs, but for someone who wanted this to work for the Bucs, it just doesn’t look like it’s working. They needed that Rams game.
  24. Fwiw, go to google, best TE’s for the 2021 draft. They detail how this draft in 2021 is projected to be better than 2020, and 2019. There are some excellent players there, and I know we could use several other positions, but if we had a generational TE, It would be worth it as a high pick.
