Michael Oher to Buffalo?

Did free agency lunacy start yet? -
The training facilities are only a couple feet away... not TOO long of a way to go. My point is, we don't NEED the next Jim Kelly in Buffalo. If EJ can just get better at doing certain things, he can officially become a "game manager". If our defense continues to improve next year, we can win many games with a "game managing" QB much like KC did this year. Though they DO have Andy Reid as their teacher. Since we more than likely will not be drafting another QB in round 1 this upcoming draft, our only hope is EJ getting better and finally "developing". I'm actually excited about the draft and free agency. Nomore Nix to blame. Let's see what Whaley brings to the table next year.

Ok. I agree with the "habit of the elite" comment because of the use of the word "habit". It makes perfect sense with the use of that one word. Darrell Revis, who up to last year was considered to be the best CB in the league, imo holds more than Gilmore. He does in a perfect way that the refs don't see it. Gilmore's holds are a bit more obvious. My point is that if you watch McKelvin play corner, he can stay with his guy after the 5 yard mark step for step without contacting the WR, better than the likes of Revis and Gilmore. Of course this is just my opinion. Another thing as to what you said earlier. Yes, the defense "as a whole" HAS gotten better with the return of Gilmore. But how are we to know that it was BECAUSE of Gilmore returning and not simply that the players on D became more comfortable with the system? Also, I remember last year when McKelvin was out for a couple of games and our D was horrible. I'm not saying it's BECAUSE McKelvin was absent because we all know Wanny's system just flat out sucked. All I know is this. I'm a Bills fan and as a Bills fan I want all our players to succeed. Especially our 1st round draft picks. I'm just disappointed in Gilmore's play as of late is all I originally said. I'm in no way calling him a bust or giving up on him. I just feel like he can play better. Him and McKelvin make a great duo and I wouldn't want to lose either one of them. Especially after the season McKelvin is having. Just please take him off of punt return duty. -

It's actually not overgeneralized. I obviously can't see every single snap that he plays. But on the ones where the opposing team decide to throw to the WR he's covering and the ones where they show a replay on, Gilmore holds/push/tries to hold or touch the receiver past the legal 5 yard mark. Once in a blue he has excellent coverage with no contact. My opinion only but, McKelvin covers better than him... -

I don't understand why anyone would buy your "stats" analogy. Why? Cuz you have 11,000 posts? Stats are just stats. Gilmore's "stats" doesn't prove he's on the incline. The guy holds every WR. Holds them worse than Drayton Florence. -

So what you're saying is, stats determine how good a player is right? Am I correct on that? So let's say Mario had 7 sacks in one game and played 40 snaps on defense. If he let his guy beat him the other 33 snaps and cost us 4 touchdowns, does that make it a hell of a day for him? No. Stats don't tell the whole story... -

I was never of the ones to call Dareus a bust. I was disappointed in his play last year but never thought of him to be a bust and was willing to give him another shot (especially after the death in his family). But I will openly admit that I thought Aaron Williams was a waste of a draft pick and also I will add that I was of the ones calling for Robey's head after the preseason. Boy was I wrong on those two guys. I also never gave up on McKelvin. To me, he was always a better cover corner than Gilmore and thought his only problem was to locate the ball. He (McKelvin) has much improved and the problem I have with Gilmore (and this goes back to last year also) is, he holds all his receivers and if they get out of his grasp, he gets beat for big gains. -

To also note, Carrington hasn't even begun to grasp this system yet. If he was playing average to above average in Wanny's system, I believe in Pettine's system he will be THAT much of a better player. This system seems to make everyone play at a high level (except Gilmore). The Gilmore comment was a joke as I'm quite irritated at his play of late lol. -

Well you're entitled to your own opinion. Aside from one game, I haven't seen the offense play so well that the loss fell solely on the defense's hands. This offense is not the reason for any of our wins except for maybe, just maybe, the Panthers game. -

The business side of things is the business side of things. I just don't want anyone discrediting Carrington for his on field presence based on Parker being his agent. His reme is little I agree. But having is on the team is better than not having him. The defense hasn't been "better" as mjt328 said "because" of Carrington's absence. It's been better because of the system. We have proof of the system being better with the play of Aaron Williams, Dareus and McKelvin. I just don't want people to say stuff like, oh because Carrington got hurt, the defense got better. That's nonsense to me. -

Let's not discredit Carrington now. He's done his part when on the field and I'm looking forward to his return. -

Either that, or they just got used to boo'ing after every field goal attempt. I don't blame them for the 1st three field goal attempts. But the last one was still uncalled for. Either way, I still thank the fans for showing up. -

Miami may not be considered a great team, but they're making a push for the playoffs. So are the Ravens. The Chiefs are in it. The Patriots are also in it and so are the Panthers. All teams which we have either beaten or came very close to beating. I honestly believe our defense is the reason for all of our wins this year. We need to fix the offense mightily if we are to contend next year. I'm actually excited for free agency and the draft. No matter what your opinion of Marrone is, the guy has brought exciting football back to BUFFALO (AT LEAST DEFENSIVELY). Some may say it's Pettine, but Marrone had to have something to do with drafting Kiko, Woods and picking up Robey undrafted. I'm disappointed not to have seen any play from Duke Williams and the other safety we picked up due to injury but at least we've gotten some excellent play from Aaron, Leonhard and Byrd. With those 3 guys still here next year hopefully, safety is not a position of need. On the signing of Branch, I'm very pleased. It's like he said in the interview, he may not have the statistic numbers, but he knows his role and winning is the only stat he cares about. I see him all over the field. Since the beginning of the season I would ask myself, who's number 90? Now I know for sure. Good signing. I really hope we can fix the offensive issues next year. Go Bills. -
Not to be negative about Woods
DefenseWinzChampionshipz replied to ColdBlueNorth's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with you as far as Woods holding him the whole play. But was was said before he threw the "punch", we will never know. I think the referee should have ejected Woods like this: #10 WR is being ejected from the game for being dumb enough to attempt a close fist punch on an NFL helmet. By rule of retardation, he is being ejected and will seek medical help. 15 yard penalty, prayers for his mental health, first down Dolphins. -

They were smart all game except for when they started boo'ing when we were about to kick the field goal and make it a 3 possession game. -
Robey is a beast!
DefenseWinzChampionshipz replied to dascottbills28's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree with this. The concern I have now with next year's draft is, do we go QB again or fill another need like TE, WR, LG or LB. If Marrone sticks with EJ, we may have another disappointing season next year, unless we draft a couple other "beasts" on defense and end up becoming a team like the Chiefs who I believe it's defense helped them get into the playoffs, with an average offense. -
