  1. not okay with losing spikes - he wouldnt be that expensive.

It's not as much about money, its about playing time. Spikes thinks he's a 3 down player, the Bills see him as a situational/rotation player... and with the players we have, he is a backup. Spikes will test the market because he wants to be a every down player.

I do think that losing Searcy would hurt more. He has really found a knack for the big play. If Rex's defense is the same as we ran under Petine, and we're all assuming it is, we'll be running a lot of 3 safety formations. I'm hoping that the market for him isn't all that good and we can bring him back.

  2. I do like him (I still have his jersey hanging in my closet) but I don’t want him back. Not even a little. It has nothing to do with his occasional dropped pass or things he said. Overall I think he’s a good dude, LOVED Buffalo and can be a quality player...but only if he’s in the right situation and I don't think this team is the right situation. His erratic route running is a QB killer and I ultimately think that’s why we got rid of him. He doesn’t fit in a timing based offense because the QB doesn’t always know where he’ll be and when he’ll be there. The only reason he and Fitz had a connection is because they ran the scout team together for 2 years so they had a ton of reps in practice. Some will say look what he did despite of having Fitz as his QB. I say he was only able to do what he did because of the time he was able to work with Fitz in practice. If I were him, I'd try to go wherever Fitz is.

  3. I think it'll be $1.5 mil in dead money either way and I don’t think it matters when he officially retires. Isn't the post June 1st cut designation just to allow teams to spread out a cap hit over future seasons rather than just taking it all at once? Once money is paid out to a player, it all has to eventually count against the cap. We already gave Uncle Orton the cash so it’s not just going to go away and never count against the cap.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he waits as long as possible to file the papers because I assume he is still covered under the league’s health benefits, etc. until he does. So maybe once the new league year starts in March he’ll file.

  4. Since very few people would actually mail a letter to the *pats* via USPS and even if they do it’s unlikely it would gain any national attention, can someone get this trending on Twitter or Facebook? I’d do it myself but don’t participate in social media. If we can do that, you know it’ll gain even more media attention. I’d also be curious how many fans of other teams feel the same way that we do. #ApologyforKraft

  5. What I think should happen:

Suspend Belicheat indefinitely, effective immediately, and not allow for him to apply for reinstatement until the end of the 2015 league year (March 2016). It doesn’t matter if he knew about it or not, he’s in charge of his team, he should know what’s going on with his team therefore he should pay the price. Just like Sean Payton had to. Since they are repeat offenders, I also think that fines in the millions for both Belicheat and the organization, loss of 1st & 2nd round picks in the 2015 & 2016 drafts and the loss of the 1st round pick in 2017. If they can prove that Brady is responsible for it (which I doubt will be possible) he should also be fined and suspended. They have to make the penalty severe enough to deter other teams from trying to cheat but quite honestly, would all this even enough to do that?

    What I think will happen:

Belicheat gets fined about $1 million, the organization is fined $500k and they lose a few draft picks. I would not be surprised if it was a 1st rounder but don’t think it will be. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the Pats* get the assistant to the equipment guy’s assistant to take the fall for it so they can say, we did our own investigation and found that this guy took it upon himself to do it without anyone knowing.

  6. at the time... Baltimore, Miami and Jets had similar white helmets with logo on the side

The Jests changed to the green helmets in the late ‘70s. The rest of the division had white helmets though.

Didnt feel like reading all the comments so this may have been said. But what about red helmets with the standing Buffalo...

    Oh God NO!

They actually wore that once. A Thursday Night home game vs Denver in the Kelly era. The jerseys and socks looked great but the helmet was hideous! It looked like a flock of pigeons dumped on the team from above!

    No. Never again!

We did that back in the ‘90s and IMO it looked really bad. I think it was for more than just the one game but I could be mistaken. It was during the NFL’s 75th anniversary and all sorts of teams wore throwbacks that year. Someone was too cheap (not naming names) to paint our red helmets white so we just used a white standing buffalo sticker rather than red.

If you bring back the red helmets it would mean instead of all blue uni's they would have all red uni's & that would look TERRIBLE !!!!

Yes it would. Both the Cardinals and Texans have gone with the red on red in the past and I didn’t think either looked good. The Texans version was especially bad. At least with the Cardinals, red is a major part of their color scheme. The Giants red jerseys looked pretty bad to me as well so I’d like no part of a red jersey for us.

I really like the uniforms we have now and would prefer we keep them as is. I grew up watching the red helmets so I do like them, I just think what we have now is a cleaner, more classic look.

  7.

I love koolAid it's that after taste that gets ya

That's why I prefer purple drank!!!! Gulp, gulp.

I think Roman will ultimately define Rex’s tenure with the Bills. I’m confident that the defense is going to be good regardless; barring a rash of injuries. If Roman succeeds, we’re a playoff team. If he doesn’t, we’re not. I’m just hoping that he can help EJ or QB TBD take that next step.

  8. I think there’s a very good chance that #18 will end up calling it a career. The Broncos team he’ll be coming back to will play into his decision. They have 18 free agents this offseason including both of the Thomas’ and Orlando Franklin, who was arguably their best offensive lineman this year. With Peyton’s $19m on the books, how many of them can they resign or replace? There’s a lot of talk that their OC may be gone as well. I know a lot of people like to think it’s Peyton’s offense and he completely runs it but that’s just not true. The OC does in fact have a lot of control of that offense and calls the plays as well. I don’t know that Peyton will want to go through a transition period if he doesn’t think he can win it all.

  9. http://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/8_Rule5_Players_Subs_Equip_GeneralRules.pdf

    See especially: Section 3, Article 1. Section 2, Article 10 and 11.

There was a problem if the referee was not performing Sec. 3, Art. 1 and giving the defense the information and allowing the ball to be snapped. What the Patriots did was legal, but the officials did not officiate the game properly, IMO, giving them a clear competitive advantage.

If the Patriots try this again, I hope the officials are instructed properly.

Defensively, I think you line up in press and overwhelm the 4 blockers. They are basically playing 10 on 11 and relying on deception (and the officials to help with it) to get uncovered receivers. B-)

    Section 3 Changes in Position

    REPORTING CHANGE OF POSITION

Article 1An offensive player wearing the number of an ineligible pass receiver (50-79 and 90-99) is permitted

to line up in the position of an eligible pass receiver (1-49 and 80-89), and an offensive player wearing the

number of an eligible pass receiver is permitted to line up in the position of an ineligible pass receiver,

provided that he immediately reports the change in his eligibility status to the Referee, who will inform the

    defensive team.

The bolded portion of the above rule is the part of this situation that I question. How does the NFL define immediately? IMO, immediately would be prior to 7 players with eligible jersey numbers joining the huddle. It appeared to me that Vareen told the ref as he was running up to the line so by the time the announcement was made, the offense was ready to snap the ball and did so seconds later. That is the only aspect of this situation that I take issue with. I don’t feel the Pats* immediately informed the refs. Then again, I’ve really never paid that much attention to when a player with in ineligible number declares himself eligible to the refs. I always felt like it was before joining the huddle.

Belecheat has been doing stuff like this for years. He doesn’t appear to believe in the spirit of any rules, only the literal written definition of them and he will exploit that any chance he gets. Teams have been complaining about the Pats* to the league office for years over stuff like this. I do expect some specific clarification to be added to the rulebook this offseason regarding this.

  10. Any potential HC candidate is going to be leery about the QB situation, they’d be crazy not to be. Everyone knows it a QB driven league and the teams that are on top year after year are the ones with a franchise guy. I can almost guarantee you that the Jets are having the same issue and the Bears and 49ers may be as well, albeit to a lesser extent. So of course Whaley is talking up EJ to the potential candidates. He has to because as of right now, we have no other options and limited ability to bring in anyone that is obviously better. Any QB in FA or that we can trade for will have some of the same question marks that EJ does. If they didn’t, they wouldn’t be available. Any QB we can draft probably will have more question marks than EJ does. All of the HC candidates know this. If Whaley was trashing EJ to them, we’d have no shot at any decent candidate. I don’t fault Whaley for not wanting to give up on EJ just yet. I’m still in the group that believes we really don’t know yet what we have in him. IMO, 14 starts spread out over 2 seasons is not enough to determine if the guy is a bust or not. There have been too many QBs in this league’s history that took a few seasons before they were able to put it all together. Mind you, some of those guys are in the HOF now. (Not saying I think EJ will be on that level)

Whaley’s not going anywhere this offseason, nor do I think he should. There is no way he’d be leading the coaching search if there was any possibility of him being let go. Whaley has been a part of assembling a decent roster and probably has roughly the same rate of success/failure in player evaluation as most other GMs/teams do. A LOT of other GMs throughout the history of this league have whiffed on a QB in the draft.

  11. That was during winter break of my senior year at Brockport so there weren’t too many people back in town yet. I joined a few of my Rugby teammates over at a friend of a friend’s house to watch the game, there were about 20 of us there. We all started drinking early so by halftime, we all had decent buzz going. It was a pretty boring 1st half so at halftime we went outside to play a short game of kill the man with the ball. That got us all fired up for the 2nd half. The party was jumping as we got back into the game and then went completely nuts when Christie hit that FG. After the forward lateral, all the energy was sucked out of the place but quickly returned as anger after we saw the 1st replay. Then once the ref went to the replay booth, the energy turned back into excitement because we were all certain that it would be overturned, it was just a formality, or so we thought. Once the ref came back and said the play stands, we were all like WTF and it basically ended the party. We had planned to stay there for the 2nd game and beyond but everyone was so pissed that we all just went home.

I don’t care what that ESPN Sport Science show says, that was a forward lateral and you’ll never be able to convince me otherwise. Adam Schefter agrees too.

  12. Bills can block lateral moves, they can't block promotions.

Only can't block a promotion if it is for a HC job.

The bolded is correct. The Giants have to ask for permission to interview Pepper for the DC job but we do not have to grant it, although it is unlikely we would deny the request. We’d more than likely talk to Pepper to let him know what our plan with him is and leave it up to him to decide whether or not he wanted to take the interview. If we flat out denied the Giants request, it could be interpreted as we're holding him back and that would make us look bad in the eyes of potential assistants down the road. If anyone wanted to interview Pepper for a HC job, no permission is needed.

As for Fewell, no thanks. The Giants defense has not been anything special since he’s been there. Plus, I would really like for us to hire an offensive minded coach and keep Schwartz as the DC.

  13. Do the assistant coaches have guaranteed contracts as well? If so, I could see that as a reason why Pegs has not done anything with them yet. Hire the HC first and then let him choose which members from the current staff he may want to keep. Why get rid of a guy that the new coach may want to keep on staff and risk having to pay him if he doesn’t land another job.

I do recall during prior head coaching changes, for both us and around the NFL, that the new HC interviewed at least some of the prior coach’s staff and in some cases kept them on.

  14. Don't know how long this will last, but...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Marrone

That's priceless!! Unfortunately, it has been changed already.

This part is still in there though.

    Buffalo Bills[edit]

On January 6, 2013, he was chosen to succeed Chan Gailey as head coach of the Buffalo Bills.[10] His overall record as head coach of the Bills was 15-17.[11]

In 2014, the Buffalo Bills finished with a record of 9-7, second place in the AFC East and two wins away from making the playoffs. This was the Bills first winning season in 10 years (The last time was in 2004, when the Bills finished 9-7 under Mike Mularkey). At the end of the 2014 season it was revealed that Marrone had a three-day out clause in his contract, in which he could resign and still collect his full 2015 salary.[12] Marrone exercised the out clause and walked out on his team December 31, 2014.[13] After Marrone quit, several players expressed their displeasure and disgust with both the decision and the way that he informed the team; captain and longest-tenured player on the team, running back Fred Jackson, said it was "like getting punched in the stomach."

People keep saying this but I keep coming back to, how in the world would anyone prove there was what the NFL considers tampering going on?

Seems pretty impossible unless someone confesses. And I seriously doubt that is going to happen.

    Phone records?

  15. This is a tough one. I don’t have really strong feelings on this either way but I ultimately voted No. His name was already on the wall prior to him becoming a murderer…or alleged murdered (wink, wink). No matter what he did/does after his playing career ended, he is still one of the greatest NFL and Buffalo Bills players of all time. Nothing will ever change that therefore I don’t think his name should be taken down from the wall. That being said, I would have no problem if the new ownership decided to take it down or omitted it from a new stadium in the future.

How about this compromise, leave his name on the wall but put bars over it? I like that idea best.
