  1. My expectations in August were about 5 to 7 wins.  Once we traded McCarron, they dropped to about 3-4 wins.  I was really hoping Allen wouldn't get his 1st start until about December because we have so little talent on offense.  Now I just hope to see a steady improvement from him as the season goes along.  2 steps forward, 1 step back is OK with me as long as the reason for the steps back don't repeat.

This season is all about developing any young talent we do have.  We are in a rebuild.  The upcoming offseason will be one of the most important we've seen in a long time.

  2. Why does this keep coming up???  Isn't Bell basically untradeable under the current circumstances?

Until he signs that franchise tender, he is not under contract with the Steelers so they cannot just trade him to a team of their choosing, he would have to agree.  He also cannot sign a long term contract with any team until the start of the new league year.  So why would he agree to any trade only to be in the same situation with a different team?  They can promise him a certain long term deal behind closed doors but if he gets hurt, they would back out of that in a minute.

Even if I thought the Bills trading for him was a good idea (I do not) I don't think we currently have the cap room to make it happen.  His remaining tag amount has got to be over $10M and what do we have, like $8M?

Me too, 3 years in the league seems a bit too much for being signed to a practice squad.

He got 12 starts and played in 35 games.

Found this and now OLeary being on the Dolphins practice squad really makes no sense.

    Eligibility

Not all players are eligible for a practice squad, especially if they’ve been in the NFL for several years and/or played in a number of games. In 2016, the NFL adopted a modification to the practice squad rules that allows up to four players per practice squad to have two accrued seasons, making it easier for teams to have experienced players on their practice squad. In the previous agreement, only two players with two accrued seasons were allowed to be on a practice squad.

Other than those four players, eligibility is limited to players who have been on an active roster for fewer than six games, or were on a 46-man active gameday roster for fewer than nine games.

A player is allowed on the practice squad for up to two years, with one year counting as six weeks in a season. A third year on the practice squad is only allowed if the team keeps 53 players on their active roster at all times (which every team does).

I'm thinking it's because he was only on the active roster for 4 games his rookie year so that didn't count toward a fully accrued season.

To those of you who have used the "confused" reaction to my post without comment, why is this confusing to you?  I would not be surprised if the coaches tried to find a way to get their future franchise QB on the field somehow, even if he is not starting. I don't think this will necessarily happen, especially after hearing "No Place To Hyde's" logical explanation on why it wouldn't make sense, but I don't think it is outside the realm of possibility either.

Confusing to me because Jackson's athleticism adds a multi-dimensional aspect that Allen doesn't.  I expect to see both Jackson and Flacco on the field at the same time to open up the double pass and other trickeration.  Maybe Jackson comes in for a play here and there to run the Wildcat.  None of that would work with Allen.  In our case it wouldn't be having a package for Allen so much as it would be benching your starting QB for a series in the middle of a competitive game.  I don't think you do that in the NFL...not with the QB.  The QB needs to be a leader and stay on the field unless he's hurt.  You either bench Peterman for Allen or let Peterman roll.

Game in hand one way or the other and we want to get the rookie some reps, fine.  Hail Mary situation and we need Allen's arm to get it there, fine.

I believe if you sign any players before week 1 their contracts are guaranteed for the year, but after week one they aren't. Not sure if it becomes pro-rated or that can be negotiated for the final 15 games. At this point, no player they brought in would be ready for Baltimore anyway so it is prudent to wait if they want to sign someone.

The player workouts allowed for the team to update the teams emergency list and I don't believe any of the players have signed so any changes can be made quickly, especially if there is an injury vs the Ravens.

IIRC, the guaranteed contact for the year only applies for vets with a certain # of years (I want to say 4 or 5) of experience.

  6. One of the key things that I take from this article is that Groy is more stout in pass protection so the pocket is less likely to collapse than when Bodine is in there.  Being able to step up into the pocket is a big deal, especially with a young QB.

Again it's mentioned that one of the potential "issues" with Groy starting is his ability to be the swing backup, saving a roster spot on Sunday.  Do we have anyone else that can play multiple positions?  Can Bodine play guard?  Can Teller, Vlad or Miller play center?  Even if only to finish out a game.

Unless Peterman turns into something magical during preseason....

Can he still go to the practice squad?  Because I would prefer a pro football player on the 53.

And really, is ANYONE going to be interested in him?

Hell, I'm surprised we still are.

Honestly, I thought were keeping him for a camp arm.

Peterman is the camp brain. There's been quite a few guys that had 10+ year careers based on smarts over physical ability. Wouldn't be surprised if we kept him just to help Allen.

  8. I don't believe concussions had anything to do with TT being traded. He clearly wasn't McD's long term solution so while the subject may have come up, his overall performance, lack of upside and most importantly the 1st pick of the 3rd round are why he's gone.

I can however see that being more of a consideration in taking Allen over Rosen...assuming they had roughly the same grade on them. You want the guy that wants to play for 15+ years. Any concerns that Rosen won't tips the scales toward Allen.

Now see I can live with this.....I think that TT was maxed out on upside and the bills realized that to get to the next level where they want to be they needed better QB play.....and I agree with them.

We need a QB that actually makes others look better.....not the other way around in order to get to the final game.....the bills are attempting to do that.

As far as Romo.....he does a great job explaining things so fans can understand what is going on....but he still does not have the benefit of knowing the play

Totally agree on your 1st 2 points and hope that Allen is finally the guy to do that.

As for Romo, the point I was trying to make was that I think he has a really good idea of what's going on as far as play development and situational football, especially compared to any other broadcaster.  He played in a few different systems that are still being used in today's NFL so I also think he has a decent idea of what the progressions at least should be.  On that 3rd and 3 play I referenced, Thompson was standing just past the marker with no one around him...maybe 10-15 yards away from QB.  TT had plenty of time to go through whatever the progressions were, appeared to turn his head toward the wide open guy but he still didn't throw the ball.  On that play, in that situation, do you really need to know the play call or progressions to know TT should have thrown him the ball?  I also think that if a DB was there trying to bait him, Romo would have called it out...especially with how many times they showed the replay due to TT's injury.

Excuse me but he was not the SOLE reason we lost that game......the defense did not turn blake bortles over or stop his scrambles either

Like it or not that was a team loss.

The broadcaster's have absolutely no idea what is actually going on the field......players can look open but are actually covered at the QB being baited into that throw.....

    Or....they might have been open

but the broadcaster's dont know without the benefit of knowing the x and o that is going on the field

Not the sole reason we lost but I think TT was the main reason. Missed too many throws and probably should have run more. Plays were there to be made and he didn't make them. Play calling definitely didn't help.

As far as announcers...I would almost always agree with you but I thought Tony Romo was pretty good with seeing what's going on and calling it like it is. He predicted quite a few plays and defenses all year. I thought he was going to lose his mind on the play TT got hurt. Thompson was open, TT appeared to look at him but didn't throw it.

  11. As many have said, the train horn has to go.  It's played way too much.

You know what else grinds my gears...hearing Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes and the stupid chant that goes with it a dozen times per game.  It's old and not original at all.  Time to find a new song or sound effect.
