Skins seriously overpaid for Randel El...

Yup, he's this board's kind of guy: sign "players we know" the first day in free agency at whatever the cost (and pass the savings along to the customer...) -
What does the Hockey Sherpa think?
Dan Gross replied to BillsFaninNC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Amazingly, he got a deal where they came free with those skates he bought from that Yahoo! store. -
Not until the middle of the 1st round...

Was that the CBA deal? That free agency started and ended this weekend? Well, I guess that was a disappointment then... If you sign high profile guys in the first two days you are probably in 'panic' mode....they aren't going to take an offer unless they know they aren't getting any better elsewhere, which means it's disgustingly high...Signing second-teir guys less so, as they don't usually have 3+ teams bidding on their services, and the difference in what they'd get here vs. there is negligible.

Kids Not Getting Enough Television?
Dan Gross replied to Alaska Darin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sure, start the thread like you're still over on PPP and then change the topic so that it becomes Consumer-Forum fodder. What next, are you going to talk about how much weight you lost hauling all that equipment around? Or perhaps how good the upcoming baseball season would look on that screen? Of course, I'm thinking playoff hockey. My wife finished her degree late, and we had a grad party for her at our house. Buncha friends and family were over, and the Sabres were still in the playoffs. Ended up getting help moving my TV at the time (31"...yawn, I know ) to the table next to the back picture window so everyone could watch the game from the back yard...this would have been better...if I got it for free. -

Hummmm, here i thought a roster bonus was a non-amortized bonus, unlike a signing bonus. Wasn't the deal with Winfield's contract with Minny that he took his bonus as a roster bonus rather than a signing bonus because Minny had tons of space under the cap last year? In which case, wouldn't a roster bonus reduce long-term cap impact (at the very big cost this year?) Heaven forbid I actually kinda agree with you on something, but there's a first for everything I guess... -
You forgot to link to the Strong-bad e-mail that was the source...

It would be the kind of thing they could do, but they don't have to. In the case of Drew and Travis they were not in the plans. Their successors had already been chosen, it was a matter of how they would be shuttled off. That's not the case with Moulds. Marv said he wants to keep Moulds, so if they can afford to (especially now with the extra cap space), and a better alternative does not come up (and, as the article mentions, the pickings are slim), then it might be 'cheaper to keep him.' And as long as they can afford to keep him he can always be trade bait. I doubt they'll be out there shopping him, but if someone comes calling, especially approaching the draft, he might be useful that way. I'd like to see Eric stay with the team. I don't think he's worth the cap cost, but he still draws the double-teams (whether he deserves them or not), and we need a solid 1/2 pair (even if Eric becomes the 2). That said, this is a business, and as much as I would hate to see him go, I'd hate more to hear that sentimentality played into when and how he departed from the team. If he's going and you can get value out of him, get it. If he's staying as a "last resort," so be it. -

Why do they have to decide Moulds' fate by tonight? They are well under the cap...and it's not like he's due a roster bonus tomorrow...is he? And if he had to be cut by 12:01 am Friday, then I guess he's staying because it has already passed... -

Who has Coyotes in their area?
Dan Gross replied to X. Benedict's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We have one in our neighborhood...keeps chasing this peculiar bird around...damn thing nearly blew my house to bits with one of his rocket contraptions. Seriously, haven't seen much of coyote my way. Fox, yeah, they run across my back yard, but no coyotes. -
(OSCARS)Some pretty funny moments last nite

I would have expected as much from an industry apologist lap-dog. All things considered, those were good ratings. Now I'm sure they're crossing their fingers hoping their "subliminal" "Go to the theaters to see the movies" campaign worked...'cuz if it didn't, they might actually have to start putting out quality movies again.... -
If you can put in an .htaccess file it wouldn't take much at all...I'm assuming you mean a basic log in, and that the site doesn't have to be "secure" beyond having a log-in...

Now that Fan In San Diego has hit 5000 posts, is it time to cut him loose? He seem to have lost a step in the last couple hundred posts.

(OSCARS)Some pretty funny moments last nite
Dan Gross replied to The Poojer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
For one thing, he was doomed from the start. Just about everything I read before-hand said "Stewart's going to suck. Just like all those other New York comedians that don't 'get' Hollywood.'" It was like a mantra, and became, in essence, self-fulfilling prophecy. That the Oscars were meant to celebrate "Hollywood" (especially with the endless pandering "watch them in the theater" pleas) despite the fact that it was a very "un-Hollywood" Oscars did not help either the "mood" of the audience or the viewing public. That the only major studio flick represented was the latest Spielberg "epic" that was seen by maybe a couple dozen people says more about how the TV ratings panned out than anything else. People weren't driven away from watching by Jon Stewart, they were ambivalent over whether Crash, Brokeback or Capote (seen by the same couple dozen people) would walk away with the Oscar... -
No one builds consensus like Jack Handy, except of course with himself. We'll just call you two the "TSW Golden Boys."

I wouldn't worry too much about it, he's too cheap for the kind of bandwidth Undertaker would be looking for. Which is why I was telling people not to get their hopes up. I know he really desired a Levy-type to act as GM...isn't that why he hired you?
