Players do have a prejuduce against Buffalo
Dan Gross replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I would guess that it's primarily because Buffalo and Columbus are probably the two lowest payroll teams, so they are "cheap." It may also have to do with the frequency with which Buffalo bumps players up and down, though it's probably more the perception of $$$ which, depending on why he's an NHL-experienced player on an AHL team, may or may not be more true at Buffalo than elsewhere... -
Wow, been a long time since 11:27 was a reasonable time to "wake up and start the day." HFB!
-
Probably about the closest you can get in recent history (at least a team successfully overcoming injuries) was when Scotty Bowman called up Callander, Michayluk, and Needham to create the Muskegon Line in '92, but that was forwards... I remembered Scotty talking about it on WGR and just looked it up...
-
I blame the kid for the Sabres' lack of offense....the forwards obviously didn't want to wake the poor kid up with that blaring horn and roaring crowd...
-
It's obvious the Sabres have you flustered...just look at your have-assed grammar. I really don't think there were folks complaining about you, but if you took offense, then.... Neither of these teams have shown the capacity to put two top games in a row...that's what I'm hoping right now at least. If the Sabres continue to win every other game, then they can advance. And if this is the end for the Sabres, then yes, I thank them for the ride. It's been a blast. Thanks for the post SnR.

In Jay's dreams... Sure, I'll go out to Tully's, it's only a few miles away....you are talking about the Batavia Tully's, aren't you Jay? -

Well, if you do that, then they'll all go to Tully's. -
I boldly predict that the team that wears black, red and white will win tonight....

Fun Wow! -
I wonder if he'll wear the bathrobe in the press box. Does this mean that Brind'Amour will now win 135% of the Canes' faceoffs?
-
Again, there's a difference between "overly negative" and "giving up on the team at the first sign of adversity," but again, you still don't get it...I begin to wonder if you are even watching the same team I am...
-
You obviously cannot grasp the difference between automatically writing off a team and just saying that a situation at its face level sucks. Your view is that, faced with adversity the team has no choice but to fold. Your posts have shown that. Glad the Sabres don't feel that way. Yes, this sucks, yes this does hurt, but it does not necessarily mean "DOOOOM" as you have been so quick to predict in the past.

Heck, I was realizing last night that I'm so football-bent that my first reaction to any score is to throw both hands straight up in the air (TD-style). It's not that I'm saying "TOUCHDOWN!" and it's not even a "textbook" TD move, more like a "double-fist pump," but my hands clearly create that goal-post shape...
-
Thank you. Though I've often thought that they needed to institute a "2 point line."
-
I believe we are now tied for the most consecutive 1 goal games in the playoffs....
-
But isn't that the nature of the beast with the style of defensive play we bring to the table? Isn't the problem due to the fact that shots from the point never go straight in, and that Miller is usually pretty heavily screened, both by opposing players and his own players trying to block the shots? (I certainly noticed that in Game 2).

Technical issues resolved now, here's the Linky.

One of the top 100 classic moments in
Dan Gross replied to erynthered's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Monday's intentions had nothing to do with whether he felt the flag burning was a legal form of free speech or not, it had to do with expressing his opinion on whether it was morally right. Is that not also free speech? Is there a "right of way" clause in the 1st Amendment that says that acts of protest, once started, must not be interrupted, that the protester has some sort of virtual conch shell? His move is no different than pro choice protesters trying to shout down anti-abortion protesters from across a fence. You can't give people the right to burn flags without also giving people the right to legally protest flag burnings... My point about them being on the field, etc, had only to do with someone coming out and saying "well, gee, free speech doesn't give you the right to steal, and he stole the flag from two citizens, so it was an act of supressing free speech rather than asserting his own free speech." I was just saying that technically he had a legal right to take that flag. -

Actually he asserted his right to protest the protest. He did not put them under citizen's arrest for flag burning, he did not even lay a hand on the protesters, he just made a "counter-statement," and a legal one at that. If one wants to say he 'stole the flag' from the protesters, it's technically not true. Anything that is put on the ball field is subject to be held by the team, whether thrown there from the stands or placed there by a trespasser. -
Ahhhh, but FiC was using reverse reverse sarcasm, but you know that because you were using reverse, reverse reverse sarcasm. I'm explaining it to everyone else though...

Laviolette: "Sabres a bunch of divers"
Dan Gross replied to Lurker's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah, that diving into the crease to catch the puck with the stick before it went in was a real quitter's move, I'll tell ya... -
So I guess our region didn't identify with the team during the sellout seasons of the 70's? Winning tends to speed up the "identifying process..."
-
But Joe, what about "this team is different?" Can't a team have an off game every so often, especially when playing 7 game series, without you going haywire? Isn't that why they play 7? Will they win the cup playing the way they did last night? No. Did they get this far playing the way they did last night? No. As Lindy said, the first two periods tonight were the worst 40 minutes this team has played in the playoffs...Do what the Sabres have probably already done: get over it.

Nah, he just missed going two weeks without being able to call you that... Welcome back, Chris. -
Not only that, but we're spoiled by a broadcasting team that's doing radio simulcast....
