...and of course the artists are not generally aware of that, and don't generally feel the net effects on their pocketbook....The funny things is that after that statement, the Chicks played a sold-out North American tour and were the top-grossing country tour of 2003 (source). Artistry, creative expression, are all about emotions and feeling. Artists get panned for performances that seem to "dry" or "robotic," like they are "going through the motions." But if that same passion drives them to say something about what they believe beyond the fact that they like big butts, that's "not cool" as well...

Who is the person to judge what it is that a performer is allowed or not allowed to say on stage, and under what circumstances they are allowed or not allowed to say it? Is it you? Is it the person standing next to you? Is a male performer not allowed to say "I love you all" because you're male and a homophobe? Did the Dixie Chicks not sing during their performance, instead spending their two hours on stage making a political protest? Did I miss the part where no one allowed to boo or walk out during their "idiotic rant?" That you seem to say that words have the same lasting power as watermelon stains on your best clothes says a lot...

The thing about Henley, as a good example, is that their world-view is evident in their song-writing. Are you saying you paid $50 for him to sing "Heart of the Matter" and "Not Enough Love In the World," and only if he won't sing "Dirty Laundry," "Building the Perfect Beast," "Johnny Can't Read," "Little Tin God," etc...?

Actually, it does make a difference, psychologically. They get 9/10 to the price of gas, and you say you paid $2.99 a gallon, when in actuality you paid much closer to $3/gallon... And I got the Sunoco credit card which gets me a 4% cash rebate on all purchases at Sunoco stations, credited monthly (1% anywhere else I use it). Helps me track my fuel usage as well...Pay it off monthly, so I carry no balance.

State Farm. My rates are low (to me) in part because I'm a long-time customer with a big accident-free bonus on one of the vehicles (they didn't even take it away when my wife got into a fender-bender...). But I don't care as much about the rates. They are there when I need them, and don't give me a hassle about anything. I actually had an adjuster come up with a higher estimate than the dealership for one accident. And I can have the car repaired at a dealership (using genuine parts)... They don't drop you for nickel-and-diming on the comprehensive like I've heard others do. Replaced a few windshields...again, no hassle.... They don't raise your rates if an accident is not your fault, even if the other driver is uninsured. I've heard others do that as well... That's what I pay for. I could care less if the lizard came up $50 cheaper...

Let me know when you've trained them to get me a beer from the fridge...
