Another take on Bledsoe/ offensive efficiency
Dan Gross replied to Coach Tuesday's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looks like the offense moved up two spots this week... Edit: and gee, I had been refreshing the "raw listing" to see if it changed. Thanks for the pointer to the article on the update, Coach. Hope you football outsider guys are not insulted that I'm just too damn lazy to send an e-mail! -
They are a stat of the week (winning 5 of last 7 yet still has losing record ), QB Sneak fake is Sweet play of the week #4, he blasts Seattle for not going for it on 4th, the "GW curse" (teams he coaches are billsfanone to #2 defense and #30 offense), and compares this year's Colts to the '91 Bills when trying to describe how to stop their relentless attack... Well, you told me to flame you! The number of attempts they list is less than his "drop back" count (attempted passes + sacks). I believe they don't count spiked passes in their stats, but I believe he has had more than two. As I stated he has 8 yards on 15 rushing attempts...still just trying to figure out how they do the math to come up with the 200 yard difference in yardage. I'm not really a fan of "all year" stats anyway because they give no credit for progress. For example, this team has come away with points every time they've hit the red zone since the Baltimore game (at which point they had scored points only 2/3 of the time, and yes their D and ST were giving them good field position back then as well). That, to me, is progress. Then there's the number of sacks. That's a better example, because if you look at the official stats for the year, the Bills are at the "lower-middle" of the pack, but if you look game by game, and separate the first Q of the season from the rest, you'll notice that 18 of the 28 sacks came in the first four games, and the current "running sack rate" is up there with some of the best teams in the league. -
What's sad is that they are in the friggin' playoff race! Damn NFC!

Why I think Bledsoe should remain as our starter
Dan Gross replied to Nick in RaChaCha's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I still say you don't start him until he's at least ready to unseat Shane Matthews as #2. If he's not comfortable enough with the playbook and/or the coaches see something that's lacking in his performance in practice, I don't want him presenting the increased risk of injury to himself and other players just to "get him experience." If he remains #3 until the end of the season, let him keep doing mop up duty in blowouts. Sitting on the bench for a year didn't seem to hurt Bledsoe's last under-study... -
I believe Mr. Charles "saw" a pre-screening of it before he died, and approved it.

To give Connery credit, he rarely bothers to try. If you want to see an accent absolutely butchered, check out Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins. Makes me want to tear my eyeballs out! But over the years, Connery has done: Irish (Untouchables, for which I believe he received an award for the worst accent ever!), English (King Arthur, King Richard, Robin Hood, Allan Quatermain among others), Russian (the afore-mentioned Ramius), Spanish (in Highlander...and there I thought he was going to play a Scot!), Italian (The Name of the Rose), Greek (Agamamnon in Time Bandits), Arab (The Next Man), "American Cowboy" (Shalako), Dragon (Dragonheart), and of course Scottish (Bond, Macbeth, etc). Quite a range! -
Is Jerry Sullivan on vacation?

If you want to see a real gem, go check out Weiler's column. http://bills.scout.com/2/324039.html He refuses to back down, though he at least can't entirely ignore Willis' performance now. Somehow the aggregate of C+ for QB, B+ for RB and O line and A for WR and TE results in an A for Offense. -
Yes, the negotiated settlement is the third option. It's the way you get situations like this, where now Butch can look for his next college job and the team gets off cheaper...

Man, some of you have no creativity in choosing a user name. My real name's Tchazibidan Dzietschewhnikogrossvidibaden, but I decided to shorten it up.... Hey, Ramius, didn't Connery do an excellent Russian accent in that movie? Unbelievable! He is the king of foreign accents, kills them in every movie he's in. B) and dev, why is it that I always try dragging rudy's posts over to your user name? -
Trust me, Ralph Wilson will tell you personally, based on his experience with Wade, that there is a difference between "fired" and "resigned." Of course, that depends on how much time is left on the coach's contract. Coaching money is guaranteed, which means if you fire a coach (team breaking the contract) you're paying him to fish, while if he quits (coach breaking the contract) then you don't owe him a dime.

Some would say Cleopatra or Helen of Troy might compete for most beautiful ever, but since they never did an FHM spread, I guess we'll never know.

No, DVOA relates to the average team in the NFL. Bledsoe's performance is 5.9% below that of an "average" QB (and it's 23rd, not 28th). A team/player that is ranked 16-20 is going to be just above/below 0. If you actually read about the stats you were spouting, you'd see that DPAR was created to show performance relative to a replacement player. DPAR attempts to say "this is how much an improvement the guy is over a replacement in his position." A replacement player generally has a DVOA of -13.3%. That means Bledsoe is 9.8 "points" better than a replacement (presumably Shane Matthews, judging from the fact that they try to take into account who is the replacement and their performance, where possible). Well, duh it didn't move up after the Rams game. The rating is weighted by the opponent, and our offense played against the worst rated (by their measures) defense in that game, so whatever numbers came out would be weighted down heavily. It's actually good that we didn't lose any position. I would expect to see a jump based on the Bills facing a much better defense in Seattle...(they haven't updated the team stats yet, and I'm guessing they won't until they crunch in the MNF figures). I'm still trying to figure out the info behind some of their numbers here...They list Bledsoe as having 326 passes for 1811 yards 13 TD's 16 TO's, as of the end of week 12. The official stats list him as having 301 attempts with 27 sacks for 328 total drop backs. I'm guessing that, since they don't count spikes against incompletions that the spikes factor in somehow, and maybe the botched snap figures in as an attempt...The official stats put him at 2011 yards passing with 158 yards lost due to sacks, and 8 yards rushing...no matter how you add/subtract you don't come up with 1811. The TD/TO numbers are consistent... -
Why are you asking? Are you thinking of getting us something for Christmas? I'll skip watching it then, so you can surprise us!

Now now, remember it was a halfback option pass attempt in Miami that started the downward spiral last year that we're just now starting to climb out of...no need for a replay....
