You know what is crazy... Gretzky reached 500 goals in 575 games. Ovechkin in 801. Ovechkin broke Gretzky's in the same number of games as Gretzky's record, 1487! Gretzky had a 226 game lead on Ovechkin! I am gonna go out on a limb here and say Ovechkin is better. He played his whole career in a tougher, higher technology (skates, equipment, etc...) era where the rules did NOT let goons protect stars. It shows. Gretzky slowed when the rules were changed about enforcers... Ovechkin picked up his game after #500. Granted Gretzky made do with more primitive skates, etc... was smooth...
