  1. Not necessarily. It could be Bell, or Meridith, or a mid to late round draft pick. He might not even make the team ala Will James and Domenic Rhodes.

Reread the quote from the article. He's basically been assured by the coaches he'll be starting at RT. Could he be beaten out by Bell or Meredith, maybe because the bar isn't set that high, but the coaches have him penciled in as starter. He wouldn't have signed for $9M otherwise.

  2. Guaranteed? No. But he's our new starter at right tackle. And judgments on him are based on his proclivity to commit too many penalties and allow too many sacks. That's on him, not his team. Pro scouts rate him as "adequate," not his team. And his crappy team, which is better than ours by the way, has been consistently looking to replace him. Their gain is our loss.

"After his conversations with Buffalo's coaching staff over the past day or so, Green believes he'll be manning the right tackle position when all is said and done, a position that's very familiar to him."

  3. Really? You do realize that the Raiders were one of the better teams at running the ball the last 3 years right?

If by one of the better you mean middle of the road, then yes. Funny though how Green was the one component of that line that they consistently were looking to replace. And he's 34. And he's a penalty flag magnet. And he's been beaten for more than his share of sacks. And he's described as "adequate" by scouts. And he fits right in with the high character philosophy our organization says it wants :wallbash:

So yeah, his track record does suggest more futility for this line.

  4. Green, 34, has been entrenched at right tackle for the Silver & Black the last three campaigns, tallying 38-starts. His unstable play and tendency to rack up penalties has been one of the major issues along the trenches for the Raiders.

The Bills have a need along the offensive line and Green is one option that won’t be pricey and that has starting experience.

Gee don't we already have a poor offensive right tackle who gets a lot of penalties?

Hmm..domestic violence charge, assault charge at an airport....

The RAIDERS are happy to get rid of him?

    Nice job Buddy...

    From PFT

"The Bills have jumped off the sidelines this offseason with an odd move.

The team signed tackle Cornell Green to a three-year, $9 million contract, according to NFL Network's Jason La Canfora. Last with the Raiders, Green turns 34 this offseason.

Buffalo needs warm bodies on the offensive line, but Green didn't seem like a player that was going to get much more than the veteran's minimum. Of course, he may have to start in Buffalo."

Just read this concerning Green...The contract seems a little steep for what basically amounts to a "for competition's sake" signing, but the contract, at least, is not prohibitive. Green struggled last season in Oakland, giving up several sacks and, more importantly, providing the Raiders a plethora of untimely penalties.

Read the following quote in Fox's AFC West Offseason review for the Raiders:

    TEAM NEEDS

    1. Offensive tackle: Right tackle Cornell Green needs to be replaced, and left tackle Mario Henderson faded in 2009.

Number 1 need according to Fox is to replace their right tackle and that's the guy the Bill's sign. Ugh......

How could he have signed for the vet minimum? He wasn't a backup or injured. He was a starter for 3 straight years.

See above for why he could've been had for around league minimum. Not to mention we were bidding against ourselves. :wallbash:

  5. Gailey believes our current players are actually a better fit for a 3-4 than a 4-3. I4 think mainly refering to our DEs and DTs.

:lol: I don't know what's worse - Gailey if he believes they are a better fit, or you for believing anything Gailey shovels at you :( He believes our DE's are such a good fit he's moving them to a new position! Who's taking over their old spot? Has Stroud ever played that position in his long career? And Kyle Williams and McCargo are what you build a 3-4 defense around?! Oh, and I forgot, Gailey has a long and respected resume as a defensive guru.

  6. Purely a backup/ depth guy

I wouldn't count on that. For the Bills to spend $9M on this guy probably means they have him penciled in at starter. It really makes no sense to pay someone this age and this level of performance $3M per year to be a backup, when no one else was interested and he could've been had for league minimum.

If this is any indication of the new regime, then
