  1. Whether Bell is completely healthy or not isn't the real issue. The real issue is whether he is a capable starting LT. In my opinion he still has a long way to go. Last year there were injuries on the line. How much depth do the Bills have at this point? Nix will have to be working the phones to get some relief for this very thin unit.

One other point to keep in mind is that as Bell continues to develop, one of the things he was supposed to be focused on was he needed to continue to improve his strength this offseason. Not sure if his necessary focus on rehab has taken away from his strength conditioning.

  2. There you have it. Bell will be the favorite to start even though he's still a work in progress. Specifically uses the word "develop" about Ed Wang, which might possibly maybe lead you to think that he's still, I don't know, developing? In other words, a developmental project. And one who is even behind the developmental project that is Demetrius Bell.

Oh, those quotes are from Buddy Nix and Chan Gailey, you may have heard of them.

Nice use of sarcasm, but we were both saying the same thing - Wang is a developmental prospect, and should not be looked upon as providing any help next year, if ever. What was being asked was for some scouting reports or quotes if you prefer from those who thought Wang was some sort of savior and that he adequately addressed our glaring need at LT. Guess you missed that in your haste to denegrate. But thanks for the quotes supporting the original point being made.

  3. That's where you get your information profootballweekly, ha ha ha lol You are a very funny person. Next you'll be basing your Bills GM credentials on sleeping at a Holiday Inn

I get my draft info from Nolan Nawrocki, among others, for varied opinions. In case you didn't know, Nawrocki is pretty well respected since taking over for Joel Buchsbaum and has a proven track record.

But I believe I was asking for other credible scouting reports that would justify the unbdridled optimism for Wang. Since you didn't provide any and instead just attacked, I'll assume you haven't reviewed game tape and have nothing to offer on the matter.

And people wonder why it's so hard to have to sift through the drivel around here and engage in any meaningful football dialogue.

  4. If Lynch DID say that Buffalo is a "bad situation" for him...I DON'T blame him.

Look at how some of you "fans" treat the guy! Look at what he has been through and where he comes from...He has made some mistakes and wants a fair shot at a second chance, and he knows the people of Buffalo won't give it to him!

He might as well start anew somewhere else...with a team and a fanbase that wants him!

First off, Lynch is not being quoted saying Buffalo is a "bad situation" and second, he doesn't get to make the decision to start somewhere else.

  5. They did, his name is Ed Wang

I've seen an awful lot of confidence being placed in Wang around here. I'm afraid these expectations are too far removed from reality. Everything I've read points to Wang being a developmental project, and if he's ever ready to start it won't be this year. Can someone please point me to why the #22 ranked tackle in this draft according to Nawrocki will be of any help this year, if ever?

  6. Has it really been confirmed it was ACL? Haven't been able to find any confirmation. If so, shame on Nix for making an already risky proposition even moreso. I mean it's one thing to believe your guy can develop into an NFL caliber starter and give him his shot to prove it, but a whole other if that guy is in the middle of ACL rehab and with no viable backup plan on the roster.

  7. OK, the general consensus is it takes 3 years until you can properly grade a draft. Here's our 2007 draft class. Have at it.

    2007 - Buffalo Bills

Rd Sel # Player Position School

1 12 Marshawn Lynch RB California

2 34 Paul Posluszny MLB Penn State

3 92 Trent Edwards QB Stanford

4 111 Dwayne Wright RB Fresno State

6 184 John Wendling DB Wyoming

7 222 Derek Schouman FB Boise State

    7 239 C.J. Ah You DE Oklahoma

Here's some grades at that time.

Buffalo Bills: This is not necessarily a complaint about the players the Bills drafted because running back Marshawn Lynch is very talented, linebacker Paul Posluszny was considered a first-round talent and quarterback Trent Edwards was highly regarded by many. However, you have to wonder if the Bills did a lot of checking into Lynch's background, given the character issues, before they used a pick this high on him. Even more, Lynch is probably going to like Buffalo's weather as much as former back Willis McGahee. That said, if the Bills get four or five good years out of Lynch, who cares if he likes it there?

    Grade: B+

Buffalo B The Bills considered taking Posluszny in the first and wound up with him in the second. Lynch is an automatic starter, replacing Willis McGahee. Edwards is excellent QB insurance for J.P. Losman.

    Buffalo Bills ***

USA Today 3 out of 4 stars: RB Marshawn Lynch makes Willis McGahee's departure tolerable. LB Paul Posluszny is a mini-steal with the 34th pick. QB Trent Edwards is a questionable third-round pick, considering Buffalo has multiple defensive needs.

Buffalo (A) - The Bills may still end up between Sucky and Mediocre next season, but the good news is that Marv hasn't forgotten how to build a winner. They're getting younger and faster and they addressed two monster needs (LB and RB) with the No. 2 guys at their respective positions (Posluzny and Lynch).

    April grade: B

January grade: C The Bills found three key pieces of the rebuilding process in the 2007 draft – quarterback (Trent Edwards), running back (Marshawn Lynch) and middle linebacker (Paul Posluszny). But Posluszny missed the final 13 games of his rookie season with a broken forearm.

  8. Don't care about Clausen or Cody, but would've liked to see a little more aggressive approach in landing an OT prospect. Moving up a few slots in the 4th to get Campbell would've been my preference, even though Campbell is boom or bust potential. That's OK by me in the 4th, and the price would've been minimal. Or perhaps traded back into the 2nd to get Charles Brown, ala Levitre. Brown was the last pick of the 2nd round. But once Saffold went at the top of the 2nd, Brown was really the only remaining top prospect left. I'm not as high as others on Wangs potential.

  9. Good stuff. What are your thoughts on Calloway? He was rated pretty high to go in the 7th (#12 tackle according to Nawrocki, just behind #11 Tony Washington who some folks seem to want to bring in here, and ahead of #22 Ed Wang). Nawrocki had him as a 4th round value, so pretty good pick there if you ask me, even with moving him inside.

  10. And exactly which team on the verge of a super bowl needs a washed up penilty machine to upgrade their O-line???

While Adams may WANT to go to a winning club .... maybe it's the bottom feeders like us that are the only ones who NEED him.

Don't get me wrong ... I love my Bills ... but the fact remains his team got rid of him so they can get better, no "winning teams" need him to get better .... and he just may be a short term upgrade for us.

Mr. Adams just may find his opportunities a bit limited.

and THAT should be what Adam Shefter is putting on the air waves.

Word. The insulting part is not that it isn't true, we all know it is, but it was irrelevant in this case. Thus, going out of his way to rub our noses in it. If Adams is choosing between Buffalo and Chicago, as reported, then Schefter just comes off as another ESPN analyst with an axe to grind. JMO.

  11. You can choose to believe me or not HB. What I was agreeing to was the first sentence (bolded) which expresses the sentiment that the guy deserves a second chance.

As you'll see if you viewed my posts, I'm not the person who clamors for the Bills to sign every free agent, trade for every player on the trading block, and basically go after talent at all costs. I was not and am not suggesting the Bills sign him, although I'm not against it by any means. But I believe that if he's evaluated well, that the guy deserves a second chance.

Again, you can believe me or not. I don't really care that much, honestly.

As for the second part of your reply, it is the job of parents to speak with their kids about uncomfortable subjects. That is how kids find structure and boundaries. That's how they make sense of the world around them, by having their parents help them understand things.

Of course, some parents like some NFL teams, would rather bury their heads in the sand and pretend that things like this don't exist.

Hey, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Maybe you're a more virtuous person than I am.

Then again, maybe they just want to take a break for 3 hours a week and just enjoy a football game.

  12. What I'm saying is that I'm surprised and a bit disappointed (again without knowing how his interviews went), that no team is willing to give the guy a chance.

I think it was you who said that incest was a very uncomfortable subject. And to me, that's it in a nutshell. The teams don't want to deal with the discomfort of having to talk about this particular taboo subject.

Look it up on google. The impression he left coming out of those interviews is that he doesn't seem to realize that what he did was even wrong. "It's pretty common where I come from" is his response. I can see the editorials now when he tells the media in his new teams community that zinger.

  13. Apparently Washington has kept out of trouble for 7 years. There is no reason for a team that needs a LT not to sign him. I hope it is the Bills he appears to be the best and least costly option. Vick is playing in the NFL, Rothlesberger is, We have players who have killed innocent people while DWI. There are gunmen drug abusers and rapists in the league. Why not him?

I agree. It was seven years ago, he was a teenager. It was consensual, not rape. There are others in the NFL who have done much worse things.

His whole career is on hold because of something that happened that long ago?

In all of these cases, the first question is, does the punishment fit the crime?

    Desperation?

Firstly, I'm one of the most patient fans on this board, in spite of being a mostly frustrated Bills fan since 1968. I'm not desperate for the Bills to do anything.

Secondly, I'm not even suggesting the Bills sign Tony Washington. If you read my post that should be obvious. I'm talking about imposing a life sentence on a person's career for a mistake he made as a teenager.

Happy for you that life is so simple. Must be great being a simple person in a simple world.

Uh, I think in your own words you agreed that the Bills should sign Tony Washington. If it's not desperation after 10 years of futility to now try to win at all costs, then why you want a sister !@#$er on your team is beyond me.

Some teen "mistake." Those crazy kids. I can see the conversations in living rooms across Buffalo now as parents try to explain what incest is and why we have a registered sex offender playing for our Bills.

  14. The guy is trying to get his s**t together, if you read his story. I don't understand why a team won't take a flyer on him.

I have read his story, and while he may be trying to get his act together, it's troubling that he doesn't realize that what he did is even wrong. He said in team interviews at the combine something to the effect that it's common where he comes from

  15. I agree. It was seven years ago, he was a teenager. It was consensual, not rape. There are others in the NFL who have done much worse things.

His whole career is on hold because of something that happened that long ago?

In all of these cases, the first question is, does the punishment fit the crime?

Wow. I realize a decade of futility can cause some desperation, but selling your soul to the devil? Fortunately I don't think Nix will.

  16. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter brings up a key point in why Buffalo might have a difficult time attracting veteran free agents:

    Adam Schefter

Re-building Bills are a tough sell

"If you're a veteran, and you've got one more chance at winning a Super Bowl, is Buffalo your choice? There aren't many worthy veteran offensive linemen out there. To find one willing to spend his last season with the Bills makes it even more challenging."

You know, Schefter really seems to be going out of his way to insult Bills fans (recall the comments during the Cowher chase). He is challenging Mort for #1 douche over at ESPN.

  17. In that case, I guess Nolan Nawrocki is the best, most knowledgeable analyst out there. Today.

Mel is becoming just another source of information in the long line of analysts that have appeared in the last few years. He has the distinction of being one of the longest running draft analysts and was interviewed by Tim Graham.

    Here are some other ratings:

The evaluators are ESPN's Mel Kiper, Clifton Brown from The Sporting News, John Czarnecki of FoxSports.com, AOL Fanhouse's Chris Burke, Pro Football Weekly's Nolan Nawrocki and CBSSports.com duo Pete Prisco and Rob Rang.

    Buffalo Bills (composite grade :flirt:

    Kiper's grade: C+

    Brown's grade: C-

    Burke's grade: B-

    Czarnecki's grade: C

    Nawrocki's grade: B+

    Prisco's grade: C

    Rang's grade: C+

  18. Campbell did drop to them and they passed 3 times. Why do you think the 4th time would have been any different? Not that they didn't have a chance to trade up in the 4th when they saw that he was still there. He's the classic "looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane, has the desire of Cheetah" type of player. Hence the reason only the Raiders took a chance on him, in the 4th round.

Perfection has no place when talking about a draft.

C'mon man. That's like saying Levi Brown dropped to them and they passed 7 times.

We'll never truly know how Nix and the scouts and coaches felt about Campbell. I believe the Raiders crushed them when they selected him right before our pick. Then again, maybe they had Wang targeted in the 5th all along. In that case, I do question waiting until the 5th round to address OL on this team.

  19. If the Bills really wanted Campbell and thought he was a top LT prospect, they could have taken him with any of their first 3 picks. Same for Skelton, who they could have taken with any of their first 5 picks. Furthermore they said they liked Brown over any of the other QB's except for Bradford, and there was a thread about their interest in him predating the draft.

Or, they could have made the mistake of waiting for Campbell to drop to them. Ooops.

Then, they wouldn't have had to go after the #22 ranked Tackle in the 5th, and could've selected Skelton. And if not Skelton, even Easley in the 5th.

Look, I understand fans want to see no wrong in their drafts, but they shat the bed in 4th and 5th rounds. That doesn't make it a bad draft, but the perfectionist in me wanted to see it be better.
