NFL worried about Chargers viability in LA
Peter replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Spanos and the Chargers gave San Diego every opportunity to keep the team there. Spanos did not want to move the team unless it was a last resort. As an aside, if I were an NFL owner, I definitely would consider moving the team to London if I could not make it work in LA or somewhere else. As an owner, being in London would present a huge opportunity to be the UK's team with very little domestic competition for the support of people there. Having attended an NFL game, I think London is ripe for an NFL team. P.S. Yes, I know there are naysayers here and elsewhere about having a team anywhere other than in the US. -
I thought that AJ was ok . . . especially under the circumstances. I have linked one of my posts in response to a discussion here about a game in which others thought he did not play well: In my judgment it was negligence to trade the guy given that he was the only guy with any kind of experience who knew the playbook and could step right in and given what he has shown while playing in games that mattered. I heard this for the first time yesterday . . . from Steve Tasker during his show with Murph. I suspect that this is merely PR damage control on behalf of McBeane. This is especially nonsensical given that he is a backup with the Raiders and how gracious both his Mom and his wife were after he was traded. AJ clearly had a better opportunity to start with the Bills at some time during this season than he ever would behind David Carr.

As I mentioned earlier, McBeane mismanaged the QB position on multiple levels: 1) TT never should have been pulled last year and Peterman never should have started that game. Peterman clearly was not ready, and I have to believe that what happened in that game negatively affected him . . . and has since then. I am not saying he is a number one QB, but I do believe that he could have been at least a serviceable backup. 2) Mahomes - the McCoach defenders hate it when people bring up Mahomes' name. So be it. Mahomes is forever linked with McCoach and the decision to trade that pick . . . and everything that resulted from there (choosing Josh and all of the assets that we had to give up to draft him). 3) Josh Allen - we can debate about whether the Bills should have drafted him where we did. I think that it is pretty clear that it was not wise to give up so much just to be able to draft him where we did . . . especially given that we have put him in such a difficult position. 4) Offensive line - we did not do our QBs or our RBs any favors here . . . especially a QB who is very raw and needs time to learn the position and develop (if he ever will). The fact that Josh takes so much time to make a decision in the pocket further demonstrates that. Josh also has an historically bad 1.6 QB rating under pressure. It would be nice for our young and very, very raw QB if we had a dominant running game. We used to. In 2016, we averaged 5.3 yards per carry. In 2017, we averaged 4.1 yards per carry. This year, we are averaging 3.6 yards per carry. 5) Receivers - see offensive line. What weapons do our QBs have?!? Of course, people bring up Sammy (especially after what we gave up to draft him) but what about a guy like Goodwin? Did we even make an effort to extend him or was an Olympic athlete not part of the process or culture. 6) AJ McCarron (or Derek Anderson or someone else) - I thought it was idiotic to trade the only guy with experience who knew the playbook . . . especially someone who was so cheap and had shown that he was at least serviceable with the Bengals (and perhaps more). Some have observed that Mahomes is in a better situation because he was allowed to sit and learn. We controlled that and failed. For someone as raw as Josh Allen is, it would have made so much sense not to have to rush him along. This year clearly has shown that. I had my doubts about drafting Josh and certainly did not agree with all of the assets that we had to give up to get him. Nevertheless, I like the kid and want him to succeed. I take it that McBeane love the kid but have made it all the more difficult for the kid to develop into a capable NFL starter let alone a franchise QB. I hope he can do it, but McBeane did not do him any favors. In the end, McBeane's fortunes (and the team's) will rise and fall with how well Josh Allen plays and whether he is that franchise QB he should be especially given the assets that we gave up to get him. If he does become that franchise QB, my hat is off to the kid given the tough spot that we have put him in. Just my two cents.

McDermott hangs up on Schopp and Bulldog
Peter replied to BillsFanForever19's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here is the link to McCoach getting salty with Sal: https://www.buffalobills.com/video/sean-mcdermott-time-to-move-forward It begins about the 52 second mark. 1) Sal asked what appears to be a fairly standard question; 2) McCoach gave him a really dirty look; 3) Sal for some reason said that he is sorry; 4) McCoach said next question; 5) McCoach gave him another dirty look and shook his head while taking the next question. McCoach does not like to be questioned and may be feeling that his seat is getting hot . . . or at least warming up . . . . -

Hanging up on the Buffalo Bills' flagship station apparently is now part of the process. You all may recall how McCoach treated Sal in a press conference a few weeks back. There appears to be a bit of a dark side to this guy . . . . -
Someone needs to be fired over Mahomes right now.
Peter replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Think of all of the assets that we would not have given up if we had simply drafted Mahomes. Having said that, I really hope Josh succeeds (although I have had my doubts), but McBeane did not make his life easy for multiple reasons. -
Don't pay attention to the grumpy people on this board who think that it is not appropriate to post about the Bills' first Super Bowl on a Buffalo Bills message board.

Dolphins Promote Nick O'Leary to the 53 Man Roster
Peter replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess O'Leary just was not part of the "culture" that McBeane wanted for the Bills. -
Just awful.

Trent Dilfer: "I don't think Josh Allen should be playing"
Peter replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree. It also would be nice to have a nasty all pro guard . . . oh wait, we had one of those. -

We certainly are going to find out whether he can handle "failure" because that is the situation that McBeane have foisted upon him. The kid is an engaging guy, and I really would like him to succeed. Our brain trust did him absolutely NO favors though. I am not as optimistic as you. I think that it could really hurt his development and confidence - not to mention his health. I also am not looking forward to him and the offense being serenaded with boos as the Sabres were just last night in the first freaking game of the season. Buffalo sports fans seem to have very little patience right now. -

That is very depressing given that situational football and match ups are supposed to be his strengths. P.S. I am beginning to wonder whether his joining the Bills was his decision to come back home etc. (as I believed and continue to believe at least for now) or was he motivated by any perceived insecurity working for Nick Saban. -

So sad, but so true. -

I agree with most of what you state. McBeane, however, doubled down on their mistake by trading the only other guy who knows the playbook and could have been used instead of throwing Josh into the fire. He also was fairly inexpensive. P.S. The truth is that most QBs would struggle with the offense that McBeane put together. It was not very smart to then have to play our prized but very raw rookie QB and negatively affect his development as Dilfer has observed. One mistake after another . . . . -

McBeane have not done Josh any favors at all. Indeed, given the huge investment in assets we gave up to get him and the fact that he is raw, it is shocking what they have done (and not done) with this offense. I was not a huge fan of drafting him, but now that we have him and he seems to be such a great kid, I would have liked McBeane to have maximized Josh's opportunity for success or positive development. I think that McBeane have failed Josh. P.S. They also traded the one guy who knows the playbook and could have stepped in to avoid throwing Josh into the fire with substandard talent around him. -
Sean McDermott: "Culture Trumps Strategy" ?
Peter replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think that Dareus was a "cultural" problem. He was very well liked among his teammates, he had just won a community service award, and was very sad when he left. He thought of Buffalo as home. This is a kid who has faced more adversity (people being murdered etc.) than we will ever know. That is just my opinion. P.S. Hogan was never a problem. Gilmore's problem was refusing to tackle and slowing down while an opposing player was running into the end zone so that Gilmore could blame someone else. Even still, he did not seem to hurt the Pats "culture" last year. -
Sean McDermott: "Culture Trumps Strategy" ?
Peter replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sometimes McCoach sounds like an uninspired motivational speaker. This bit about "culture" just seems like another cliche like: Trust the process. I have to watch the tape. You either win or you learn . . . Is there a problem with the Chief's culture because Sammy plays there now? Is there a problem with the Jags' culture because Dareus plays there now? Is there a problem with the Rams' culture because Woods and Robey-Coleman play there? Is there a problem with the 49ers' culture because Goodwin plays there? Is there a problem with the Pats' culture because Hogan and Gilmore play there? Is the Bills' culture better this year without Richie than it was last year or years before with Richie? If "culture" were the issue, Paris would be the best team in the NFL if it had a football team (one other than PSG). -
So you are counting this year as well. Ok. That means his record is currently: 10 - 10. I suspect that second number is going to go up higher than that first number as the year progresses. Interestingly, McCoach already has a -56 point differential for this year and a - 113 since the beginning of last year. In the two years prior to McCoach, we had a +20 and + 21 for a total of +41.

In my judgment, the problem was Mario going on strike, injuries, and Gilmore refusing to tackle. As for McCoach, both the offense and defense were ranked worse last year than the year before and the point differential was worse than the year before. Fortunately for McCoach, the refs called a late and controversial penalty on the Colts' two point conversion (a penalty that I have never seen called against the Pats) and Andy Dalton's miracle fourth down 49 year TD pass. Both must have been part of the "process."
