  1. Even if you have only convinced yourself that a guy is a "possible franchise QB" because you really, really, really need one and you kind of messed up in several drafts by not getting one? Our need for a QB is unrelated to whether or not there is a starting, play off caliber QB in this draft. There probably isn't and if there is, there is just as much chance that it is a guy we can get in the 3rd round as a guy we could overdraft in the first round. I would rather take a guard, or a pass rusher in the first round that has an 80% of being worth the pick than a QB who has a 15% of being worth the pick. Of all the years to overdraft a QB, this isn't the one.
  2. It never fails, every year, there is an avalanche of posts on why we should trade down. And it doesn't happen. And it is for the very simple reason that there are always more teams that want to trade down than who want to trade up. Yes, this is a great draft to trade down and it is just as equally a really, really bad draft to trade up in. So where are all the trading partners for the many teams that would love to trade down going to come from? Who is so special that a team will trade up for him and yet, isn't good enough to get drafted with one of the first 7 picks? Go to the websites for these teams that are supposedly so keen on trading up to the vaunted #8 spot and see how may of our fan counterparts are posting long essays on why it such a good thing for their team to trade up. It would be nice if it happened but it is about as predictable as a lightening bolt. The Bills won't know if it is at all a possibility until their pick comes up and I am sure they will be ready should that possibility arise but they can't control that or force that issue.
  3. Just about every team picking in the top 12 would like to trade down and maybe, maybe, there is one who wants to trade up.
  4. Yes, and that has worked out so well so far, why would he change?
  5. I don't know what is in your heart but what you wrote, in my opinion, projects your problems with people who are different than you on to the rest of us. You are certainly entitled to feel however you feel about it, as are the rest of us who feel entirely differently.
  6. I am afraid that you are probably right. No matter how badly we need a quarterback this year, it won't change the fact that this is a lousy year for quarterbacks. I'd rather bite the bullett and sit through a nightmare of a season than to pass on a talent like Dion Jordan, Ansah or Patterson, etc. just to make sure we pick up the least mediocre QB prospect which would do nothing more than guaranty that we will be looking for a QB again in 2 years.
  7. I'd rather have Scott but unfortunately, the fact is that this is a bad year for quarterbacks. There are problems with all of them. I just hope that their need for a QB doesn't delude the Bills into thinking any of these guys are likely to be a franchise QB. The difference between the third best guy and the seventh best QB prospect is marginal this year. Or even wait to the third.
  8. Big Ben is 6-5, gets sacked a lot, and has two SB wins.
  9. Agreed, why take a QB that in any other draft would last until the third round when there is talent like Jordan available and your defense was a merciless mess all last year? You're defense will still be a mess next year and chances are 50/50 you'll still be looking for a QB.
  10. After being the team's co-offensive MVP in 2010, he took a red shirt year because he had an extra year of eligibility and Foles did not. He was and still is being praised for having taken one for the team so that they could get the most of the time Foles and Scott had to give.
  11. Spot on post-combine scouting report on Matt Scott: http://nflsoup.com/2013-nfl-draft-matt-scott-scouting-report/ If there is a Kap or Wilson in this draft and there might not be, its Matt Scott.
  12. Yeah, it was a beauty contest and all Nassib had to do was not look terrible. He was unable to pull it off. You are right though, he did amass some great stats against Stony Brook and Temple. He also amassed those stats playing half of his games indoors. I have watched him for years and in my opinion, he isn't an NFL starter. And he sure as hell is not better than the real talent available to us at #8 at a wealth of other positions.

  14. I live in Syracuse and have had season tickets to SU football games since 1980. I have seen just about every game Nassib has played. He is not an NFL starter. Take a look at his senior bowl performance. You would have to be crazy to take him in the first round and pass on guys like Patterson, Jordan, Jones, Warmack, etc.
  15. I don't think there is all that much difference in the potential of Geno Smith and a handful of other guys out there. This is one year where there simply is no QB prospect who is clearly a future high quality NFL starter. Which means that this is the one year you don't want to go for broke to get a QB. The difference between the top rated guy and the fifth rated guy just isn't all that big. I have no problem with accepting next year as a rebuilding year where we have a better chance at the No. 1 pick in the 2014 draft than we do of making the playoffs in 2013. A guy with lots of potential, I personally like Matt Scott, in the second or third round is fine with me. Trading up to get a guy who would go in the third round in any other draft and missing out on on top talent like Cordarrelle Patterson or Dion Jordan would be a big mistake. As for those who are in a panic over the QB situation, face reality, we have a new set of coaches, we are clearing out the deadwood and starting over, 2013 is not a playoff year.
  16. Here is the best tape I can find on Scott, it's against USC. He has got good legs, though not nearly as good as Wilson, etc. Nothing wrong with his arm though and he runs better than the vast majority of current NFL starters. He nailed some tight windows in this game.
  17. Why is no one talking about Scott? He is the best read-option guy out there. There is nothing wrong with his arm and he can really run. Given how weak this QB class is, I don't see why this guy isn't getting more attention.
  18. I certainly agree that what and expert like Lee thinks matters ore than any of the jibber-jabber (it's an industry term) you hear around here. However, Lee could hardly be expected to be truthful in that situation. If he thought Fitz had the weakest arm in the league, do you think he would say that publicly?!? What he did say is just the kind of press kit babble they are taught to say. In fact, its is his job to say stuff like that. We are all hungry for information, especially of the inside variety but you can't let that desire cause you to overlook that every member of the team and the staff is trained by the public relations people to puff the team and the players. Once in a blue someone messes that up or a reporter does some actual reporting and you then you get a peek behind the curtain. We need to win games and Fitzy was a huge reason why we won some games last year but he is also part of the reason we lost so many. Certainly, he wasn't the only reason or even the biggest reason but no doubt, he missed open people that in a few games may have made a difference. If this guy helps him with those throws than we are going to be just fine with Fitz.
  19. I am willing to participate in a prayer vigil for Tebow to go anywhere but here.
  20. OMG, the very first clip on the web page was from a home game against the Bengals in 1973 which was the first Bills game I ever went to. I was 12 years old, OJ got 99 yards and they lost on a last second field goal, 16-13. We were up until 2 am painting a banner in my grandmother's basement. My cousin from California was living with us and was quite the artist. He died in his mid 20's and I can't think of him without remembering how hard he worked on that banner. He drew a Bills helmet and standing buffalo free hand that was perfect. Being from San Diego he was a Chargers fan but was nice enough to go with the flow. thanks for the link!
  21. Its pretty clear that you hate NYC and no amount of facts is going to change that. If you have some sort of proof of a specific project "Albany" has forced on to Buffalo that was worthless and of better, alternative projects that elected officials in western NY have long sought but been denied by elected officials from NYC, I would love to hear it. I would also like to hear what you mean specifically when you complain about $ being given "in a patronizing fashion"? Did some legislator sign a bill that shifted wealth from downstate to upstate with a smirk on his face?? And money is money, regardless of the attitude of the person from whom it was taken. And it was taken, NYC isn't on some generosity kick. The political system in the state shifts power from densely populated areas to areas less populated through over representation in the same way that Rhode Island has as many votes in the US Senate as California despite the drastic difference in their respective populations.
