  1. I could make a pretty good argument for removal but it wouldn't be a slam dunk. In a high profile case with tons of coverage, it might be impossible to find a juror who hasn't seen any of the coverage.
  2. The speed at which a warrant is issued is in no way a comment on the strength or weakness of the evidence for or against a suspect. As is usually the case with high profile incidents, there will be many articles in the press pre-judging guilt or innocence based on little more than rumor, incompetent evidence and reporter bias. Those predisposed against the suspect will find in those reports all the "facts" they need to conclude that the suspect is guilty. Those predisposed to support the suspect will find in those same reports enough "facts" to support a finding of innocence. People are impatient and sound judgment never moves as satisfyingly fast as speculation. If you think that the speed at which a warrant is issued is a significant fact, you are either too impatient to wait for actual facts or perhaps are trolling for something to justify your own predisposition regarding guilt or innocence. If, during jury selection a juror confessed to a belief that the case against the accused is cut and dried because the arrest warrant was issued expeditiously, that juror would be removed from the jury "for cause".
  3. How long before we no longer care enough to obsess over his career?
  4. Defenseless player status isn't the only rule that prohibits a head shot. Rule 12, Section 2, Article 6(h): Unnecessary Roughness is.... (h) using any part of a player’s helmet (including the top/crown and forehead/”hairline” parts) or facemask to butt, spear, or ram an opponent violently or unnecessarily; " Based on that rule, I don't see how Shazier's hit was not flagged. Seems like they got obsessed with the defenseless player/becomes a runner rule and forgot about good old leading with the helmet.

  6. We matched up well with the Jets, despite the injuries and the bottom line is that the Jets choked. Fitz has great games, so-so games and every so often an awful game. Its not as if we blew them out of the stadium.
  7. Injuries had nothing to do with their getting their hats handed to them defensively by Brady in week 2 and by the Giants in week 4. The problems on defense were present before the injuries started piling up. The injuries made those problems worse. Also, your comparison with last year's team leaves out Darby, a significant upgrade over McKelvin. Yet despite that upgrade, the defense was awful to start with and then got worse from there on. There is just no way for me to continue believing in the claims that Rex is a defensive genius after this season.
  8. I don't see how Rex can escape responsibility for this fiasco. That defense was in the top 5 for two years under two different coordinators. The only change in personnel was to add a corner who is likely going to end up being the defensive rookie of the year. The offense is clearly better than it was last year and it looks like we finally have a QB we can win with. If I told you at the start of the season that Darby was going to be rookie of the year and that Tyrod was going to play as well as he has, you would have been dead certain that we would make the playoffs. The epic collapse of the defense can't be explained by blaming injuries or the players. This is Rex's doing, plain and simple. Yeah, it stinks having to fire yet another head coach and to have to start over yet again but there is no objective reason for believing that Rex is going to turn things around next year. None.
  9. Just how ugly are those last two games at the Ralph going to be?
  10. I can't believe...*gulp*...*gasp* buh buh but I actually think...I....I....I.....I...I...miss marrone
  11. Stop throwing anything other than a screen pass on third and long would be a start. Draw play and punt would be a major victory right now.
  12. Someone once said that the opposite of love is apathy. This feels a bit like a guy stalking an ex-girlfriend.
  13. That actually is not correct. If an offensive player "lures" the defender by assuming a pass blocking posture while another chops low, it is a chop block which is exactly the call that was made. The ref even stated that the d-lineman was "lured". http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/10/calais-campbell-chop-block-penalty-injury-bruce-arians-rips-broncos-julius-thomas
  14. Exactly. There are no diamonds in the rough waiting to be found. Carpenter might be struggling but better a has-been than a never-was. Give him a chance to knock off the rust. Why do I have a sinking feeling that we are going to end up with a free agent kicker whose sole claim to fame is once having played for the Jets?
  15. It sure sounds like Rex is through with Carpenter but realistically, I don't think there are any great kickers out there selling insurance waiting for a call. The guy was hurt and hasn't had the time to kick the rust off the tires yet. I am not ready to part with a kicker who has hit as many +50 yard FG's as Carpenter has.
  16. He was also instrumental in drafting EJ Manuel and needlessly trading up for a WR in a year loaded with good WR's. He has been with the Bills for four years with out a single post season appearance. An unqualified success he is not. He has made good decisions and bad ones. This is a bad one, in my opinion, simply because I think Fred still has gas in the tank and is a much better RB than Brown. As for Fred's public statement that Whaley wasn't honest with him, there is no way in the world I would believe that Fred is a liar. If he says Whaley wasn't honest with him, I believe him. I worry that being branded as dishonest by a player with the reputation of Fred Jackson will not help Whaley attract future free agents. That said, Fred will sign with someone and most likely prove that he can still get the job done and we have a pretty talented backfield, if not a deep one, even without Fred. We'll all live.
  17. 1. Jim Kelly, of course. 2. Thurman Thomas 3. Fred Jackson 4. Fred Smerlas 5. Golden Wheels Dubenion Honorable Mention: Jack Kemp, Tony Greene, Bobby Chandler, Jerry Butler, Marlin Briscoe, Joe Cribbs, Tom Sestak, Billy Shaw, Ron McDole, Ted Washington, Cookie Gilchrist, Jim Braxton, Andre Reed, Pete Metzalaars, Pete Gogolak, Joe Ferguson, Doug Flutie, Eric Moulds, Bruuuuuuce and so many, many more.
  18. He is a real professional. He doesn't fumble, jump offside, hold, draw personal fouls or drop passes. He will never cost you a good play or a game by making a stupid mistake. He will never cost you your QB for the season because he whiffed on a blitzing LB. He'll never get arrested or suspended for violating the substance abuse policy. And he can still break tackles and wring every inch out of every play you give him. How on earth is Brown still on the roster and Freddie is not?
