How much practice can Allen get before Training Camp opens up?
Mickey replied to Peevo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have to speculate to the contrary. My understanding is that the NFL has a standing army of operatives scouring the gyms, parks, playing fields and back yards of this great nation to insure that no forbidden practice by NFL players is taking place. I for one sleep better knowing that the watchful eyes of the ever vigilant agents of NFL Security are insuring player compliance with the NFLPA contract. Under his Eye. Blessed be the turf. -
Combing through the negative Josh Allen Grades/Reviews
Mickey replied to BigDingus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Even if you are pessimistic about Allen, what are you most concerned could lead to his success? 1. That winning games will count more than completion percentage. 2. That Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott might actually know more than I do. 3. That people will notice that after months of arguing that the Bills would never pick Allen, I just cant accept that I was embarrassingly wrong. 4. That being wrong about the Allen pick, I must spend hours working on a thinly disguised crusade against him in a futile attempt to rescue my credibility. 5. Nothing, I am 100% convinced that Allen won't succeed but as a Bills fan I do support him. No, really, I do. Believe me, I do. Totally.- 100 replies

From what I could see, he does fine on short throws and designed screens. Where he had trouble was when he was trying to go downfield but eventually had to decide to dump it off. It seemed like he doesn't always reset his feet for the check down and instead just relied on his ability to flip it out there with his arm alone. He also looked like he was waiting until the very last second before giving up on the downfield routes leaving him in a situation where he really had to rush the check down throw so that there was no time to reset his feet or otherwise set up for the throw. I think those throws seem so easy that he likely doesn't think it all that important to pay much attention to technique. When the first or even the only read was a short pass such as on screen passes, I didn't see anything unusual in terms of accuracy. There was one particular play, I think it was against Colorado State, he was trying to hit an out-route on the right side about 7-8 yards downfield, it wasn't open but he waited and waited to see if the WR could get some separation. When he finally gave up and decided to toss it to a RB in the flat on the same side, he never reset his feet which remained lined up for the out-route. Instead, he just twisted his torso way around to the right and sure enough, the ball flew over the RB's head and out of bounds. Frankly, I much prefer having to coach an overly bold QB to go to the check down more often to having to coach a timid QB out of going to the check down too often.

With that kind of "support", who needs detractors?

The last guy was so qualified he thought playing a "home" game in Toronto once a year was a good idea. I think she'll do fine.

UB WR rated 12th top player in 2019 draft
Mickey replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where can I watch their games on TV if I live in Syracuse? And no, I won't google it, I just won't. You folks are my google. -
Well color me em-bare-assed!

I don't think Tyrod's passes were all that catchable as they too often required the WR to contort himself into awkward positions to try to get their hands on a pass that was off target. I recall Sammy Watkins injured himself on a TD pass he caught that was low and behind him and in an awkward spot (so close to his legs he couldn't extend but had to twist).

I think that the question of who to start will take care of itself. Either it will be obvious based on preseason performance who the starter should be or it will be cloudy, with no clear winner established before opening day. If it is the former, then that is the guy you start. If the latter, then you start AJ until further notice. If he plays well, you stick with him because, duh, he is playing well. If he doesn't play well, you eventually make the switch. At that point, the fans and media will have a far greater tolerance for his rookie growing pains knowing that AJ isn't the answer because, duh, we tried him and it didn't work.

Lesean McCoy's Rookie "Welcome"

I can only hope that at this point, Josh no longer has a twitter account. -
I don't think it is fair to compare a GM to guys like Mayock or Kiper. They predict every pick, every round while the GM makes 6-8 picks give or take. Plus, we don't see the board the GM's develop. Another difficulty is pinning any of the draftniks down, Kiper puts out dozens of mocks leading up to the draft, at some point he has everyone going everywhere. Lastly, we are always talking about team needs and GMs likely have far different ideas as to what they need than the Illuminati of the draft.

EXACTLY why I think Beane blew the '18 draft. -Rd. 1
Mickey replied to #34fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And thus begins the long campaign to run Josh Allen and Brandon Beane out of town. The use of pretentious phrases like "re-purpose his skill set" is the clearest sign the author doesn't know what he is talking about. You usually see that kind of thing in the military or other government bureaucracies where covering up a lack of intelligence by applying reams of technical jargon is a way of life. -
Deon Cain anyone? https://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/players/playerpage/2179211/deon-cain

"Slightly more athletic"??? That is waaaaay off. Drew was a statue, this kid can move and run. He can throw off balance which is another thing Bledsoe was awful at. If that is what you call "slightly more athletic" than Lebron is "slightly more athletic" than my kitchen table.

Just listen to the callers on the radio shows, its over the top ridiculous. Rants, tears and on and on. Its not a case of people booing him as soon as he steps on the field, its a case of calling for his benching the first time he throws an interception. There will be no patience at all when it comes to Allen and a virulently vocal part of the Bills fan base. Hope I'm wrong and people who were really excited about one of the other quarterbacks just need to vent their disappointment for a bit. No question that Allen has flaws and needs work but this is a time for optimism, for hope. Instead, most of what I am hearing are different versions of "we're doomed", "they blew it", "Allen sucks" and on and on.

Opinions on why we passed on Rosen?
Mickey replied to Klaista2k's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same reasons 8 other teams passed on him. Injuries problems and apparently he didn't do well during his pre-draft visits. Peter King said that if the Bills had the first pick in the draft, they would have taken Allen. It wasn't a case of what was wrong with Rosen, they clearly think Allen is far superior prospect. I know many disagree but either Beane has an undiagnosed neurological deficit or perhaps Allen really is the better prospect. -
Instead of Allen and Rosen comparisons it should be
Mickey replied to Bills365's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Folks gotta vent. The more hope that is wrapped up in one outcome, the deeper the trauma when a different outcome occurs. I know I would have needed emergency mental health treatment, or lots of vodka, to calm down if they drafted Mason Rudolph. -
I like Allen and I am worried how he is going to be treated by fans who disagree with Mayock going forward but at the same time, I think it is unfair to label all of Allen's detractors as people who haven't done the research. Plenty have and just plain disagree. So it goes. What concerns me is that people are so wedded to their opinions that they just aren't going to get past this and will never give Allen a fair shake. Accusing them of being lazy in their research probably isn't going to help them reboot and clear all the bad feelings they have about this pick.
