Week 10 Bills @ Jets second half thread
Mickey replied to SlimShady'sSpaceForce's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I can't believe I am writing this but here goes: shouldn't they put Peterman in to keep Barkley from getting injured since, at this point, Barkley is the franchise? -
Umm....not true. Minnesota game. Has Peterman had a single regular season win? Allen has two. Peterman has had nothing but disasters and most were in his second year, not his first year. Allen played for a small town high school, a small town Juco and then a small college. Peterman played for a big HS in Florida (over 2,500 students and the Patriots once used their field as their practice field before a super bowl). Peterman went to Tennessee and then to Pitt, both big time programs with top notch coaching and training facilities. Peterman had a whole year to sit behind a solid veteran. All Allen had to learn from was AJ and Peterman and he was playing by the second half of his first game. Peterman has to stand on his own regardless of what anyone thinks about Allen's future and so far he has been an abject, unmitigated failure. On the plus side, in terms of drafting highly next year, he is the best investment we ever made.

Bucky and Sully Blackballed By The Pegulas?
Mickey replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I get that people don't really care about these two particular sports reporters but the thing is, if the Bills organization can get away with this kind of thing, they can do it to reporters you like as well as those you don't. Not cool. -
Word. Enough with the "we have to run in Buffalo because its too cold to pass" crap. The NFL is a super highway with no speed limits and we are running an offense built for boy scout hiking trails. We need an OL than can pass block and pass catchers at every skill position. Sooooooooooooooo freaking tired of run, run, pass, punt. Sorry for the crappy highway/hiking trail metaphor but its Monday and at least 68% of my brain circuitry is still under repair after watching that game Sunday.

That's the thing, you can't stop the pass. You can limit its success but if you can't keep pace yourself, that hardly matters.

If you had a buddy who abandoned the Bills
Mickey replied to Cripple Creek's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would not walk away from a good friend over something as inconsequential as what football team he follows anymore than I would refuse to be friends with a Giants fan. I mean, it's not like being a Dolphins fan, I do have some standards. -
I didn't need analytics to reach this conclusion. It is a game of alternating possessions, the fewer your opponent gets, the fewer you get. If Tom Brady scores on 20% of his possessions and your offense scores on 5% of its possessions, you lose no matter how few possession each team has. Pass rush and hopefully turnovers on defense and on offense, score, score and score some more. In the end though, no amount of strategy is going to make up for a massive talent deficit. I'm hoping for 40mph winds tomorrow night.

By comparison to this, I would consider a fart to be a balanced, properly timed, discrete and thought provoking piece of communication.

Is the defense really that young? Kyle is going to retire, Hughes is over 30 and 'Zo is 35. Plenty of young guys but those are pretty key players and all three will be gone in the next 1-2 years, 3 tops.

Players that need replaced in 2019 for the Bills to succeed?
Mickey replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Who on earth would be so stupid as to trade a 2nd round pick for a 4th and 5th? On the trade value chart that is about 300 points for 110 points +/- Wouldn't we be calling for Beane's head if he did something that stupid? -
He was sober when he took whatever drugs he took.

QB is always the root of offensive problems
Mickey replied to mjt328's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If our offensive line is so good, why can't we run for more than a yard and a half on first down? Is the QB responsible for that too? The holding calls on running plays, the pre-snap penalties, is that the QB's fault? Yes we have issues at QB but the notion that the line is hunky dory doesn't wash. If this is you being "hopeful" I'd hate to see you being pessimistic. -
Who is going to trade anything of value for a running back in his 30's whose production is decreasing, is currently injured and who has off the field issues that could result in a major suspension? Who would trade for a WR who drops as many balls as he catches, has no speed and whose most noteworthy achievement in the last two years was to publicly criticize his QB? Oh and lets add in that he will be available for nothing next year as his contract is up and we sure as hell aren't keeping him. He is not worth even a 7th round pick. Escapism I get but I need my fantasies to have at least a shred of plausibility. Red Dead Redemption II ships this Friday, thank god. I'll be shooting coyotes, playing poker in saloons and riding the range by this time next week.

Stating the obvious - the NFL talent level vs. Bills
Mickey replied to PUNT750's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It sure does, water shortages, 116 degrees in the shade and a dark future as America's least sustainable city. -
Someone needs to explain these types of analytics to me. I don't get it. Past outcomes do not influence future outcomes unless there is a causal link between a particular past outcome and a future outcome. Flip a coin 10 times in a row and it comes up heads, the odds of the eleventh flip being heads is still 50%. However, if you are playing four card burn and are hoping for aces, your chance of getting one diminishes with every ace dealt to another player. Independent trials vs. dependent trials. Aren't these numbers just a whole pile of coin flips banded together to look like a deck of cards? The fact that some other QB's on some other teams in some other games running some other offense whose plays are being called by some other coaches added up results in an average performance of x,y or z seems to me to be information of very little value. We aren't starting an average QB playing an average defense behind an average offensive line in average weather conditions with average coaching and an average amount of injured players effecting the game. We are starting Derek Anderson and much information about him and his abilities are known. That information is, to me, more valuable than how a bunch of other guys in a bunch of other games, on average, performed. Our offense, its strengths and its weaknesses are well known to us and that seems way more informative than the average of what other offenses have done at other times in other circumstances. I guess my questions is whether or not Derek Anderson's performance on Sunday is a dependent trial or an independent trial? Or perhaps the DVOA of my math skills indicate that this is all just too complicated for a senior citizen who played without a helmet for way too long?
-
What would you like to hear them say? Do you want them to fire the coach who took them to the playoffs for the first time in forever? Do you want them to publicly deride their staff? Should they announce they are taking over personnel decisions? I get that you are angry but rationally, what would this accomplish that would help the team win on Sunday?

Hernandez Beaten, Abused as Child
Mickey replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is a good question, I don't know if they look at non-violent offenders who were abused for comparison. I only scanned this abstract but it did mention the methodological limitations of some studies and that they were examining 600 or so abused children compared to a matched control group of 500 or so children. Abuse often comes along with neglect, malnutrition and goodness what other evils. I have no idea how or if they can tease out those kinds of details but hopefully, they are doing what they can to with regard to control groups. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2771618/ -
Hernandez Beaten, Abused as Child
Mickey replied to hondo in seattle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is apparently a statistical association between child abuse and violent behavior in adulthood that can't be explained by chance. I agree that fact, if true, is not exculpatory. Hernandez, however he got to be the violent person he was, had the tools to get help to control that violence. -
Why Derek Anderson should start the rest of the season...
Mickey replied to Simon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are reason's Anderson was not on an NFL roster. The notion that at this point in his career he is ready to be an NFL starter is delusional. If Josh can't play, Peterman starts unless they bring in someone else who can play. Just because we badly need a QB doesn't mean there is one out there worth having. Next stop: the CFL talent pool? Tyrod? Earl Morral? On the bright side, we are looking good for the 2019 draft. -
He was recommended by noted QB guru Master Yoda. Smart he is. Strength he has. Wisdom he knows.

Nate Peterman is God's will. His will be done. Let us learn from Job and accept our suffering. Amen.

What Do Young People Think When We Post About 90's Bills Teams
Mickey replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every once in awhile, I like to gather the young-uns around (i.e., trick them into visiting me by claiming I want to discuss my will and their respective inheritances) to tell them the same old stories they never tire of hearing (except for my youngest, Hermie, who gouged out his own ear drums to insure never having to hear them again). How they love to hear me go on about Jim Kelly, Thurman, Bruuuuuuuce and the Biscuit (except for that time they tried, without success, to have me committed to an asylum in one of the states of the former Soviet Union). In between heart breaking stories of Super Bowl losses, I like to test their mettle by telling them that the largest share of my estate goes to the first child to help me change my "Depends". I wish I could share a picture of their glowing faces as I make them wear chicken wing hats while we share a meal of stadium favorites like fried bologna sandwiches dipped in squeeze packet mustard. You see, in the end, its all about family.
