I had to crack up at two separate industry emails which I just received. Headline one: AT&T to invest more than $17B in 2009, expand 3G network. Wow! Sounds great. Story adds that 3,000 new jobs will be created. That's great, AT&T - you need better coverage and the economy can sure use the jobs. Headline two: AT&T To Cut Capital Spending In 2009 (Telco to Add 3,000 Jobs But Reduce Wireline Headcount). Yup. Same event. What the ???? So if you didn't read both you wouldn't know: -the investment is decreased from $20.3b capex that was projected -3000 new jobs, minus ??? existing jobs = ??? AT&T doesn't issue different press releases for different outlets. Just one. The media in this country - maybe worldwide - is really lousy. Of course that's why I subscribe to all these feeds - I can't rely on a single source. I just found it truly hysterical that the same story came to me almost simultaneously from two such different perspectives....sigh.

Even Warren Buffett opposes Card Check legislation
blzrul replied to Fingon's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
There are laws on the books about whereby the intimidated employee, ironically enough, would appeal to the employer to protect him or her from harassment. I suspect that most employers would love to take THAT on. I am not sold on this legislation myself. In my opinion most unions have long outlived their usefulness to all but the people who run them. -

There you go again, bringing Bush into these conversations. I don't know why everything has to be a Bush Bad conversation. But, there is it. And you are the drum major for the parade. -

It takes courage to do something like that. Whether we agree with him or not, he stuck to his principles. It would have been far, far easier and certainly understandable to scream for blood. -
This is HUGE. This is much bigger than firing US attorneys because of their politicial persuasion! OMG what is this country coming to!

Geno Hayes Stabbed In Head And Neck By Girlfriend.

This is trending toward a PPP thread but...there's no excuse for one person putting their hands on another in anger. Self defense is something else. What you need to keep in mind is that EVERYONE who snaps has a "reason". But 99% of those "reasons" are not valid at least in the eyes of the law. -

Richard Gere has principles and stands by them, no matter how unpopular. I may not always agree with him but I respect the fact that he's true to his principles while being tolerant of others and theirs. -
I'm surprised it took you this long.

Reading all the negative stuff in this thread one would think most of you would just yawn if the Bills left Buffalo. Yeh right. I know that's not true. If you weren't diehards you wouldn't be here. I renewed my club seats right away. I needed to call this morning to update my credit card info for the monthly payment plan and had to wait quite a while on hold. I asked the agent if they were flooded with calls after the TO signing and he said "my God yes". So...is it a ploy by Ralph to sell tickets? Or a real move to win games? Who's to say. My prediction is that TO will be as flamboyant as TO is but that you won't see the problems like he's had elsewhere. Unless, of course, Jauron decides to continue last year's practice of having Edwards throw those stupid short dink-and-dunk passes. Shoot, if that happens TO won't be the ONLY one complaining that TO doesn't get the ball. -
Look at it this way: Without TO to blame in 2009, the Cowboys are not going to be able to blame anyone but Tony Romo for all the Tony Romo gaffes, chokes, drops and INTs. I don't doubt TO is a pain in the ass, he's really emotionally needy. The problem is he's played with other top talents who compete for attention. In Buffalo he won't have that problem. Half of the people in WNY probably couldn't name more than a handful of players, they've been so "bland" these past years. Not since we had Lawyer Milloy or Bledsoe or Flutie have we had "name" players once the 1990's Superbills all left or retired. TO is now not only the big fish in the small pond - he's the ONLY fish in the pond. And I think that will be fine with the rest of the team as long as he catches the damned ball.

Ditto the men. I remember a woman from Dallas telling me one time the men in Western New York had ugly butts and no hair.

Article This is an op-ed piece, so I am not offering this up as fact, but I thought it make a couple of interesting points and gave me a little different perspective on this whole freakin mess. I am not a big spender myself, and I don't believe in debt - so I would prefer my government to live by the same rules - but right now the barn door is open and the horse is running free. So at this point only time is going to tell... Anyway, for what it's worth.
-
That's my point you dumbass. Tell you what, go to the dictionary and look up "sarcasm". Bush turned a blind eye when Chavez sent heating oil to poor people in New England. Pretty ironic and downright hypocrital really.

The facial expression - not the way he looks. Maybe he'd look just fine in a new photo. I had no idea the guy was in a wheelchair and I really don't care. It hasn't seemed to handicap him any. So I take it you are outraged when someone calls Michael Moore a big porkbutt? Which he is? Or is it ok because he doesn't have a physical handicap? My my my, who would have thought you wingnuts would be so POLITICALLY CORRECT. The nicest thing I could say about the Kraut is that he looks like he has a stick up his butt. I am sure he would be pleased to hear that. -
You are an idiot. And tell me how "Public service is simply, and absolutely, about advancing the interests of Americans." - Barack H. Obama, January 21, 2009 is a BAD thing? Are you advocating we implement a DRAFT for the military, because our soldiers are volunteering and that's bad? I thought Jesus preached that we should love and help one another? Did He mean only if we get PAID?
-
Buffalo is not Dallas. They are vicious in Dallas - the poorest sports in sportsdom. We won't make TO cry. And if he does, more shame on us. I realize that these guys make a lot of money but anyone who thinks that 95% of them don't work extremely hard and try their best to win, is purely an idiot. There is no shame in failing if you've tried your hardest. But, to quote Michael Jordan, "I can't accept not trying".

I think TO will do well in a smaller market. The one thing the Bills have TOTALLY lacked (besides an O line, a passing game, a killer defense and a lot of wins) is a big personality. There is NO swagger on this team. Lots of raw talent, but not a lot of confidence and it shows. Too many years of being laughed at. TO is used to being both brash, and laughed at. I actually think he will fit in well.

Please remember the euphoria when we signed Drew Bledsoe

Michael Vick, I'm telling you, Michael Vick. He's out in April. I cannot imagine the Bills signing him but...they signed TO. I actually enjoyed TO. When he was with San Fran and came to Dallas and did that thing on the star it was GREAT! Nothing better than being in Dallas surrounded by chest-thumping Cowboy fans who just got all the air knocked right out of them...oh yes. I don't know what Jauron is thinking. But I guess we'll find out. It would be a HOOT if the Bills to well with TO. -

OK I didn't think he'd gone anywhere. What with all this TO talk though, anything could be happening and we might miss it. -

"Sister Carol Keehan, president and CEO of CHA, said in an interview that she did not believe the language in the most recent version of FOCA — despite its definition of abortion as a fundamental right — would force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions. But she also said that if it did, the church would look to the historical example of racial segregation as a model for civil disobedience. "From the other side we hear consistent talk about being pro-choice," Keehan said. "If FOCA passes, the concept of being pro-choice will not be incompatible with our position — our choice would be not to participate." (from the article) This is just another propoganda piece. No-one is trying to FORCE anyone to do abortions. My father was an OB-GYN in private practice and one day a week he volunteered in a clinic. His partners did abortions. He opted not to do them. He did not do them in the clinic either. And he didn't make a big deal of out it either way - he made HIS choice and let OTHERS make THEIRS. Over the course of his lifetime he delivered over 5,000 babies but never tried to interfere with others' decisions not to have them. The Catholic Church is just trying to scare people by threatening to close their hospitals if legislation they don't like is passed. Maybe they ought to ignore it and continue NOT to do abortions like they are doing today, and focus on getting rid of all those pedophile priests they have covered for all these years. By the way: I'm Catholic.

Geez, Jauron is one of the worst coaches to deal with TO.

Really? Were you able to do that when you played professional football for Coach Jauron? -

The TO haters on other boards are now waiting for Jauron to show he's got real brass ones and sign Michael Vick. I can put up with TO - I actually like him - but Vick? I don't know. I'd be more apt to pelt him with Milkbones.
