Here is why Ted Kennedy gets to be interred at
blzrul replied to stuckincincy's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
"Kennedy will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, just a few feet from the graves of his brothers, a senior Defense Department official told CNN. He is eligible for burial at Arlington due to his congressional service and his tenure in the Army from 1951 to 1953." -
Sort messed up your quote there didn't you? But, I cleaned it up for you. I don't like it. What do you think of George Bush's grandfather's investments in mines in Germany that used Jewish slave labor before the US entered WWII? Or FDR's alleged infidelities? Or Teddy Roosevelt's mustache? Etc etc etc. Now that we have that settled, why don't you go steal hubcaps or something?

If you aren't sure of its accuracy then I'm not sure why you posted it. -

Oh for crying out loud. -
I heard someone once say that the irony about Teddy was that he'd spend his days in Congress fighting tooth and nail to improve the lives of the people he occasionally exploited after hours....I'm not sure that's very far off from the truth. Nevertheless he spent his live trying to serve his country as best he could. As an independently wealthy man, with two brothers murdered because of their political office, he could have opted to do something else. I didn't agree with his politics all the time and I more than once deplored his personal life ... but he did the best he could and now he's gone.

Foster Farms chickens (WA), Tillamook dairy (OR), not to mention WA apples, blueberries, Dungeness crab, salmon, Yakima Valley wines...etc. Mmm mmm mmm. And if there's any left over we'll charge outrageous prices to sell it to the red states when they've had enough fried grease. -
Much as it pains me to agree with you on anything , I do agree with you. There are some wars that were unavoidable, and needed to be fought. When I think of the wars that have been fought, ARE being fought, for no good reason I want to knock some heads together. I hope someday before the world ends humankind will figure out a way to settle differences without war. I know I'll be long gone when that happens.

Never said I wrote it. Don't know who did. But it's pretty damned funny. I should have used quotes and legal disclaimers because obviously SOME PEOPLE took it seriously. Not surprising.

Rudy clearing the way for NY governor run
blzrul replied to UConn James's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
His ace isn't much of an ace is it? And THAT is the whole point. It's that good old GOP "lower the bar" policy. If the bar's low enough, anyone can jump over it. Surely somewhere in New York there is a member of the GOP with a brain and some accomplishments who could win out over one of the most ineffective governors you've had in years? -

And you would take top spot in Dollars for Dumbasses. I thought that codgers thing was pretty funny...except I'm sure it'll spread around via the web and there are people (or should I say dumbasses) who will take it SERIOUSLY when it was just a joke.

When I lived in Rochester I got cash for ditching my old dryer. HERE is the program I'm advocating: Democrats, realizing the huge success of the President's "Cash For Clunkers" rebate program, have revamped a major portion of their National Health Care Plan. President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and Sen. Reid are expected to make this major announcement at a joint news conference later this week. I have obtained a advanced copy of the proposal which is named.... CASH FOR CODGERS and it works like this... Couples wishing to access health care funds in order to pay for the delivery of a child will be required to turn in one old person for each child they conceive. The amount the government grants them will be fixed according to a sliding scale. Older and more prescription dependent codgers will garner the highest amounts, while younger healthier codgers will earn them less. Special "Bonus Money" will be paid for those submitting codgers in targeted groups such as; smokers, beer/ alcohol drinkers, persons 10 pounds over their government prescribed weight, and any member of the Republican Party. Smaller bonuses will be given for codgers who eat/drink; beef, soda, fried foods, tater chips, lattes ,whole milk, dairy products, bacon, Brussel sprouts, Carvel or Girl Scout Cookies. All codgers will be immediately rendered totally useless via toxic injection upon submission to the plan. This will insure that they are not secretly resold/reused or that their body parts be harvested to keep other codgers in decent repair

Be afraid. Be very afraid. -
I once dated a guy who had gone to my HS several years ahead of me, he was special forces in Vietnam and went places we weren't supposed to be, doing Lord knows what...he never said much about what he did but what little he said gave me the creeps. It clearly gave HIM the creeps and he was having a lot of trouble living with whatever it was. One more reason why I hate that war.
-
It's news because he's never said a word about it all these years. What he did was sudden and unexpected. I wonder why after all these years, is all. Nothing political about it, I sort of wish he'd kept quiet to be honest. Some things are best forgotten, why open up such a painful topic after all these years....

'Explosion' of Swine Flu Cases Predicted

Yawn. I could use the time off. My brother had it, but by the time the tests came back he was recovered. He said he felt really crappy for a few days but no worse than any other flu. -
Someone in the industry sent this...written by someone in the industry. What Is Really Scaring Americans About Advance Directives? Cheryl Clark, for HealthLeaders Media, August 19, 2009 Is anyone else having trouble understanding why so many people seem so angry or at least nervous about "advance directives" provisions in the Energy and Commerce Committee's health reform proposal? I read all 11 pages in section 1233 of "America's Affordable Health Choices Act," as well as all four pages of the amendment by Rep. Mike Ross of Arkansas. Nowhere did I see anything about "killing Grandma," "euthanasia seeking death squads" or any mention of governments forcing beneficiaries to specify how they want to die. Nothing even comes close. What is Sarah Palin talking about? In fact, there it is in black and white: just the opposite. A qualified health benefit plan shall present "the option to establish advance directives and physician's orders for life sustaining treatment according to the laws of the State in which the individual resides." It "shall not promote suicide, assisted suicide or the active hastening of death." Nor shall it "presume the withdrawal of treatment and shall include end-of-life planning information that includes options to maintain all or most medical interventions." The language says in several different places that the advance directive process is entirely voluntary. What I read was a reasonable effort to carve a way to encourage discussions about the end of life, so patients and their loved ones can have a cogent, calm conversation. In this way, they can express their wishes, fears and expectations, and do so long before the incapacities and indignities of the death process take that opportunity away. The proposal would pay physicians a designated fee to launch these conversations, something that they don't get now. When they give such counsel or facilitate such discussions between family members and loved ones, they now do it for free, and therefore taking the necessary time may not be something that's high on their list of priorities. This would make it easier. So I don't understand why so many Americans are so angry. Or why 50,000 to 60,000 AARP seniors angrily cancelled their memberships in AARP in the mistaken belief that the association favors a health reform bill that includes such death squads. AARP spokesman Jordan McNerney acknowledged the extent of the outcry and what he called a disappointing number of resignations, and blamed it on "scare tactics on the part of opponents of health reform and people with a financial stake in keeping the system broken." The AARP is doing its best to dispel the myths with an ad campaign circulating in local media across the country, he says. And he thinks people will start seeing the truth. But until they do, it seems to me that seniors especially would want to have a system in which their doctors are incentivized to help them have a frank conversation with their families and loved ones about their end of life care. I certainly want my wishes known about how aggressively I would want to be treated if I could no longer walk, talk, think clearly or feed myself. Would I want to be kept alive if the choices were between being kept in a drug-induced delirium or having out-of-control pain? Absolutely not.

So when you wingnuts are done with your personal attacks perhaps you can enlighten us all as to why knowing about options and and alternatives that may help make final days easier for patient AND their loved ones is such a bad thing? Why are you all so afraid? Wingnuts are cowards. There's just no other conclusion. You're afraid of evildoers. You're afraid of government. You're afraid of people who are different from you. You're afraid of departure from the status quo. You're just chickens. Thank goodness our forefathers weren't wingnuts.

After all these years the officer infamous for participating in the massacre of hundreds of villagers in Vietnam has admitted responsibility and apologized. I was very surprised to read about it, and the venue was somewhat odd. I wonder why now. At the end he got a standing ovation. I am not sure why. I guess because people felt it took courage for him to stand up in front of a small crowd, admit his guilt and remorse and answer questions. Maybe now another chapter in the darker side of American history is coming to a close. I don't know. I always had mixed feelings about My Lai...I don't know how our soldiers were supposed to tell a North from a South Vietnamese, or how they could spot an infiltrator since of course they didn't wear uniforms proclaiming their sympathies... I could see how these kids could snap and go nuts and massacre civilians, it was a war after all. The only conclusion that I could ever come to was that those young American soldiers should never have been there in the first place. Hindsight = 20/20. Well, I hope something good comes out of this and maybe Calley will finally have some peace.

They all do it. How the hell old was Strom Thurmond when he finally kicked? He never retired either.
