Lane Kiffen to interview today for Bills HC?

Something also of note, Schefter tweeted that Buddy Nix has never considered Brian Billick for the HC position. -

Definitely a joke...still though, WTF Schefter? RT @JohnJohn_25: ARE U SERIOUS ABOUT LANE KIFFIN AND BUFFALO??? ... Letterman's writer tweeted that - you think it's real? C'mon, man! -

Yeah it looks like a false alarm...kinda cheesy for Schefter to post this when he knows Bills fans are dying for news. -

He must be the token white guy interview... -
There is no way they reach an agreement before the deadline so our FA options are pretty limited. I say go after Levi Jones (who got his feet back under him the last 8 games in Washington and looked very good) to help out OT spot. Strange, that's what we all wanted last offseason...but hey, Nix gets a shot to make it right now. That way our O-Line would be Jones, Levitre, Hangartner, Incognito and Butler. Obviously Incognito goes out if Wood can make it back before training camp, but for the time being let's just consider him MIA. If we can't get Jones, get Wade Smith from KC who had a good year blocking for Jamaal Charles and can float between OT and OG as needed. Hell, sign em both. Sign Kevin Walter, the WR from Houston...he had something of a down year this season so hopefully that drove his price down a little bit. But the guy doesn't drop a lot of balls and is a great possession type of receiver who can also throw a decent block. Should complement Evans well. Linebacker help is tough to gauge until we know what system the Bills are going to run, but for argument's sake lets say they stick with the 4-3 in some form or another. Keith Bulluck, while getting up their in age, would provide good leadership to the squad and has ties to the area (Syracuse alum). Danny Clark from the Giants is another good player, but is also getting up their in the age department. Also, keep an eye on Scott Fujita, the OLB from the Saints. If the Bills switch to a 3-4, I'd love them to go out and sign Tully Banta Cain away from the Patriots and move Maybin to OLB (giving us Maybin, Mitchell, Poz and Banta Cain as our starting linebackers) I honestly think the Bills will not bring in any DT help unless one of the stars of this year's college class falls to them at #9. If they do bring in help to the DE spots, Jarvis Green, Richard Seymour (under a 3-4 defense), Kyle Vanden Bosch or Derrick Burgess could help. Two guys who I think are starting to turn it on are Tyler Brayton and Cory Redding (finally), both of whom are UFAs. Trade for Michael Vick. Yup. I think this has a very good chance of happening, especially if Brian Schottenheimer (who loves running wacky end arounds and wildcat formations) or Leslie Frazier (buddies with Dungy, Vick's new mentor) become our HC. Release Edwards and let Fitzpatrick, Brohm, Vick and a 3rd round pick or higher duke it out for the 3 QB spots on the team. Do NOT be surprised when the Bills make a substantial offer to RFA OT Marcus McNeil. Nix scouted and drafted him in San Diego and could be willing to part with a lot to get him. In the Draft, take the best available OLB, OT or QB depending on what is done with FA. My gut tells me they'll go with an OT like Brian Bulaga or The Wall's early favorite, OLB Rolando McClain. Also, keep an eye on Colt McCoy in the 2nd...if he's there at the top of the 2nd round, Nix might trade up to get him.

I don't think anyone could argue that having Marty on board, whether it be a coaching job (unlikely) or a consulting job (very likely if his son gets the HC spot) is anything other than a great move.

Free delicious candy for all season ticket holders. I hope I get Sweet Tarts.

I think Schefter has proven consistently this offseason that he has zero sources within the Bills organization. If you want to give something a whirl for us twitter-less folks, try and pose the same question to Jay Glazer over on Fox Sports. He does seem to have a few connections with the Bills, I'd be interested in what he has to say since he broke the "Brian Schottenheimer to interview" story yesterday.

If Brian ends up as the HC and Marty comes on as some sort of consultant, I'm all for it with a big thumbs up. I'll admit, I wasn't big on Brian Schottenheimer as our head coach to begin with, but I came away very impressed with his play calling against a tough Bengals Defense. He also seems to know he needs to shelter Mark Sanchez and play to his strengths which dictates to me understands ADJUSTMENTS. Something that has been lacking in Buffalo for the last decade. Also, the guy's offense runs playaction 30% of the time! How a team like Buffalo who has two really good RBs (one of whom broke the team record for all-purpose yards in a single season) decided never to run playaction is beyond me.

Where's the Putrids bashing

Aside from us dismantling them in the home opener a few years ago and the Giants beating them in the SB, it was the most enjoyable NFL game I've seen in the last decade. -
RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?
BillsGuyInMalta replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My best guess of what is going to be said by Kelly. "Well, you know...we talked, and he's interested...but he's sorting things out right now and it might be awhile". Which is the polite way to tell a HOF QB "No". We'll see how close I am after 5. -
RUMOR: Jim Kelly spoke w/Bill Cowher?
BillsGuyInMalta replied to Punch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think everyone can read between the lines here. Kelly is going to talk about his discussion with Cowher on the same day the Bills ask permission to talk to Russ Grimm and Brian Schottenheimer. Swing and a miss on The Chin. -
Bills seek permission to talk to Schotty Jr.
BillsGuyInMalta replied to BillnutinHouston's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Damn, beat me to it! I'll be honest, I'm not as high on Brian Schottenheimer as I am on say Russ Grimm or Ron Rivera. Someone posted a really convincing argument for him a few days ago though and it did slowly start changing my mind on him. -

Raiders to Fire Head Coach Cable Today

That would be mind-boggling but exactly the type of move Al Davis loves. The only problem is Leach would have to give up control to Davis which he probably never would do. -

I wouldn't call it a total debacle, we did end up with Byrd, Wood, Levitre, Nelson, Harris and Lankster out of that deal. You're right, Cushing would have made it amazing...but missing on him isn't a debacle.
