D'Brickenshaw Ferguson falls to Bills?
BillsGuyInMalta replied to slothrop's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Here is how I see it...if he slides past the Jets, there is a very solid chance he falls to the Bills. However, that also means its more likely for another team below us to trade up and snatch him before he falls all the way to #8. I will say this too...if the Jets take Cutler at #4, I will laugh...and laugh...and laugh. -
Reggie Wayne re-signs with the Colts
BillsGuyInMalta replied to BillsGuyInMalta's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nothing about the specifics, although it does say that now Wayne is the THIRD highest paid WR in the NFL behind Marvin Harrison and Randy Moss. Somewhere...TO is bitching. -
Per Fox Sports. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5351986 Uhm...do the Colts HAVE a salary cap?

Anyone watch Minnesota - of the Big 10?

I've checked out four draft sites to find more information about this guy, and all of them have him projected to go undrafted. -

Jets Franchise Abraham (nfl.com)
BillsGuyInMalta replied to richNjoisy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
ESPN is saying they are looking to trade him since they are screwed when it comes to the cap. Of course, if in the next few days the Jets release Ty Law, Chad Pennington and Kevin Mawae...that should free up some cash. -
How about Ricky on ecstasy? Heeeeeeeeeey Ronnnnieeeee...have I told you how much I LOVE your hair?

Wellm I know that a 3rd rounder is the highest comp pick that I've ever seen awarded, so I doubt we get that. However, losing Pat Williams should net us a 4th-5th for sure, considerhing how well Williams did and how poorly our Defense was in his absence.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I get it! *crickets*

Ricky Williams fails drug test

Psh...you never lived man... *inhales* As for Wicky, it amazes me that he's this stupid. -
You know, a guy who has impressed me the last two seasons is Antonio Bryant. He's not really well-known, but every since he got traded to the Browns he's put on quite a show. He's matured a lot and seems to be a solid #1 or #2 in this league. If we have to get rid of Moulds, I think Bryant could be a great addition and would complement Lee Evans very well.

Say the Bills dont sign him...(99.9% likely). Is the offseason blown? Its a bad idea to just key in on one guy. Especially a guy every other single NFL team covets. I'd like to hear just one good reason why Bentley would want to come to Buffalo. Just one thing that we can offer him that would entice him here that other teams cant.
-
I actually like this offseason plan. I think the Bills can strike gold in this offseason if we dont whore all of our money out to one guy like Bentley or Hutchinson and instead focus on bringing in solid contributers at a lower cost. Sadly, a lot of Bills fans still have this "IF YOU AREN'T A SUPER DUPER MEGASTAR NFL PLAYER, U SUCK! LOLOL!! OMFG!!11!!" mentality. The Patriots won three Superbowls by bringing in the right type of players, not the expensive stars (sans Dillon). I might change up the draft a bit after the 2nd round, but all in all a good job.

Its not a matter if the Bills can pay him, we're 10 million under...we got the cash. But we also have SO many other holes I doubt that Marv and Company will throw the cash at him needed to get a signing. And yes, at this point the Browns are a better team then us. Plus they are 31 MILLION under the cap coming into this season. They can easily push him right out of our price range. And honestly, I'd hate to see Bentley come here because he'd more than likely be our only FA signing. A new center will not save this O-Line, no matter how good he is. I'm not debating that Bentley isnt one of the best young O-Lineman in the NFL, I'm just saying its completely unreaslistic to think he'd even give Buffalo the time of day considering how many of the much better teams will be gunning for him.
-
I read that too. I also heard on ESPNews yesterday afternoon that they were going to hit him with the tag so they could get something rather than nothing. Now granted this from John Clayton, but still...I think he's right. Like I said, even if he does make it to FA, he wont be coming here. I find it funny how fans of every NFL team who needs O-Line help has him listed as the #1 FA priority. Why would he come to Buffalo when he can have more cash and be with a better team?
-
I'd say the exact opposite...Vick constantly breaks down protection by running around like a crazy man back there...even when he's not booking it for extra yardage, he's still making it tough as hell for his O-Line to know where he is and block effectively. I think the fact that Kevin Shaffer has done so well is a testament to how solid he is as a football player. If the Bills pass on a guy like Shaffer, I'll be disappointed. He's young, he has experience, and he's done extremely well. And the whole Bentley thing is a pipe-dream, I guarantee you the Saints will franchise him. Besides, say a miracle of God happens and the Saints let him hit FA...why on Earth would he ever want to come to Buffalo? And dont say money because no matter where he goes he'll get oodles of cash. I can think of 20 NFL teams right now, some with a lot more cap space than we have and are much better teams who need interior O-Lineman like Bentley. He's not coming to Buffalo. Neither is Steve Hutchinson for that matter, but there are a lot of good O-Line FAs out there if you dont limit your options.
-
As Zac said, the Falcons have some salary cap issues to deal with. Plus, I think Shaffer will be interested in testing the market, considering how little love the Falcons management seems to give any player on their team not named "Vick". I'm hoping if he makes it to free agency, the Bills swoop in and sign him the first week. Thats an automatic upgrade right there. In Jim McNally's Q&A today, he mentioned that they've already targeted a couple of FA O-Lineman that they like. I'll keep my fingers crossed Shaffer is on that list.
-
I'm telling you...Kevin Shaffer. SIGN THIS GUY. He's young, he's flashed dominance at the critical LT spot...and he did so while trying to keep up with Mike Vick breaking coverage and allowing OLBs to key in on him. Full starter the last 2 and a half years. Shaffer is an up and comer in the NFL, would make a great addition to the Bills.
-
If both of them are there, you have to go with Ferguson. Hands down, IMO. The problem that I see is that there are a couple of solid DTs who will slip to our pick in the 2nd round, but few if any "ready to start" LTs available in the 2nd. If you check out the rankings, after D'Brickashaw we have in the OT Department: Winston Justice (Who was the RT at USC) Jonathan Scott (REALLY inconsistent...plus the Texas O-Lineman connection will make Bills fans cringe) Marcus McNeil (Down season for him) Eric Winston (Still recovering, nowhere near his 2004 level) Ryan O'Callaghan (Probably a better Guard than LT in the NFL) So to me, taking Ferguson who instantly would start at LT is the best possible choice. Then in the 2nd, grab Gabe Watson, Rodrique Wright, Jesse Mahelona, or Claude Wroten to fill our DT void. But I'm one of the guys who thinks that there is no way Ferguson slips.

Vanden Bosch remains a Titan, 4 year deal
BillsGuyInMalta replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
General rule of the NFL (that a lot of teams still dont get): Dont overpay for a guy who has had only ONE good season. To the Titans credit, the contract they gave him isnt too obscene. -
Bills draft scenario: Round 2, If Bills take Ngata
BillsGuyInMalta replied to Mark Vader's topic in College Football
Honestly, if Jean-Giles were available, the Bills would HAVE to pounce on him. Getting the #1 rated DT AND the #1 rated Guard in the same draft? Thats a dream right there. However, I think he'll be gone by the late first round, which is why I'd like to see the Bills go after O'Callaghan. Kid played OT in college but has the size and ability to excel at Guard if needed. That versatility and natural talent would make him an ideal second rounder. -
And what do we do with poor Angelo Crowell? Give him a handshake, a pat on the back and send him back to the bench? I believe Crowell played himself into Posey's starting job, I'd hate to give that up just for a rookie. Especially since our picks can be better spent on improving our craptacular lines.

This is possibly getting way out of hand.
BillsGuyInMalta replied to Oneonta Buffalo Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I dont have any doubt in my mind that a new deal will be in place. I'm guessing late next week. -
I'd say its worked out great...there are lot of things you can hate on the Bills for...but Takeo? The guy is our defensive leader and a staple of this franchise. Sheesh, lets cut Takeo...friggin bum, how dare he get hurt on our watch?
