"Take Back the Anthem"
-
As a matter of great timing, Daniel Tosh gave a 'Web Redemption" last week on Tosh.0 to the girl who forgot the lyrics in Portland before a TrailBlazers/Mavericks NBA Playoff game. (cannot link to it right now) As her redemption she sang the National Anthem at an Anaheim (Mighty) Ducks game. Daniel held up cue cards for the girl while she sang. I couldn't help but think of this bit after realizing Aguilera butchered the lyrics.

Who made Joe Buck the main announcer?
Mike In Illinois replied to Direhard Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He knew somebody: his dad is Jack Buck, the longtime broadcaster at KMOX-AM and CBS Radio/TV. Joe cut his teeth broadcasting St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and worked his way onto the national stage. I personally like Joe, maybe it's due to his connection to the Cardinals, even though many people despise him. -
13-18 inches of snow with drifts up to four feet. I shoveled a path in my driveway for my car in case the city comes to plow our subdivision. While I was out shoveling I noticed a Jeep Patriot 4x4 stuck in the road about a block from my home. The guy was trying to get to work but made it only onto the street from his driveway. Eventually it took three guys about 20 minutes to get him down the street and out of our subdivision. I don't think I dare try it with my Nissan Sentra.

National Weather Service Reports from my area show us around 10 inches of snow that is covering the bit of ice we received the last 24 hours; it is snowing at a rate of one inch per hour. We are expected to receive 12-18 inches before it's all over but we may outpace that. Our city has shut down operations as of 7pm CT and forbid anyone from driving on the roads unless authorized personnel. The road cleanup crews are being given a chance to rest before attempting to clear the roads tomorrow at 3am CT. I work at a hospital and they converted a conference room to a large sleeping area with your basic cots (kind of reminds me of the scene from Revenge of the Nerds, where the future- Tri-Lambs are staying in the high school gym) for employees who don't want to go home or want to arrive early for work and need rest. On top of the snow falling is the issue of the power lines "galloping", where they sway in the wind due to the stress from heavy ice on them. The power has flickered here at home a few times and it would not surprise me if the power went out for an extended time. I'm concerned along Lake Erie as this storm, coupled with Lake Effect, would pack a mighty wallop to Buffalo and surrounding cities. Stay safe out there!

The ice has been falling (in the form of sleet, then freezing) for the last 90 minutes. We're expected to receive up to 12 inches of snow on top of the ice over the next day. I'm calling it SNOWMAGEDDON: The Return.

20 years ago on Thursday
Mike In Illinois replied to \GoBillsInDallas/'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This article from ESPN kind of slipped through the cracks this morning. It seems like Parcells & Co. had a totally different mindset heading into Super Bowl Week- arriving ASAP from San Fran and getting to work immediately on-site. On the other hand, it appears to me that Levy and the coaching staff may have taken for granted being in the Super Bowl (getting in late Monday night, missing the mandatory news conference due to preparations). This possible lack of preparation, coupled with the relaxed attitude of some players partying, seems to have been harmful to the Bills. I wonder if the outcome would have been different if they would have come in ready to work and put aside much of the celebration until after the game was over. Just curiosity on my part. I'm still proud of what the team accomplished during that era. Hard to believe it's been 20 years, though. -
10 Worst NFL Free Agent Singings of All-Time
Mike In Illinois replied to TSNBDSC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Worst singings, huh? How about these guys: Or someone in our division: -
I was getting ready to post another link when I saw this thread. I just finished reading the book a month ago after seeing the TV series a couple of years ago. He seemed to be a great man who was humble at the same time brave in his service. He made such a big difference in World War II. RIP Major Winters.

2011 opponents Home & Away *16 game season

I think it might be fun to go to the Cincinnati game if I could make it to one road game. It's about a 5 1/2 hour drive from where I am; KC is equal distance but that atmosphere might be too hostile. Plus, we're guaranteed a win against Cincy, right? -

Bills Flashback: When Big Ben beat the Patriots
Mike In Illinois replied to Jim Gehman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I was under the impression that the 'Big Ben' play was the play that Atlanta scored on- a pass from Steve Bartkowski to beat New Orleans in the Dome. -
Most Stupid Band Names ...
Mike In Illinois replied to truth on hold's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Toad the Wet Sprocket was lifted from a Monty Python skit- "Rock Notes". Toad the Wet Sprocket is a band mentioned in the skit. -
I thought I heard about a plan to re-air this game one week from tomorrow night in the hopes of reaching a younger fanbase. With the lack of excitement in the game it surely would put kids to sleep early on Christmas Eve.

A Memorable Game in Miami

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWkAMJ-eMB4 I'll add some video evidence of this game. -
I was not impressed with Criqui's call yesterday. I, too remember when he was a good play-by-play man for NBC 20-25 years ago. He and Bob Trumpy always seemed to be calling the AFC Central games. Criqui did make me laugh at some point in the second half. He had a little banter going with James Brown back in the CBS studio when they would pitch to Brown for scoring updates. When Brown pitched back to the Bills game, Criqui- in setting the location of their game- announced "We are in the BUF!" A frightening thought on any occasion when taken out of context.
