  1. I've heard many mock drafters and football writers talk about players with upside, those that have high ceilings. Players are frequently selected on this criteria. I think this is a bad approach to drafting. A player, said to have a high ceiling, hasn't done it yet. His potential hasn't been shown. He doesn't show excellent, consistant play, game after game. The better approach, in my opinion, is to look for those players with high floors; those players that have shown what your looking for, game after game, for at least two or more years and never or rarely have a bad game. I also think that games are won in the trenches. You draft linemen first until your lines are set. Based on these rules of drafting, this is how I think the Bills should approach this draft. With the 8th pick, do not select Geno Smith. He's much too inconsistant. Cordarella Patterson, he drops too many balls. Ezekiel Ansah, he looked bad in Senior Bowl practices although he was good in the game when o-line blocking responsibilities can get confused after only three days of practice. Ryan Nassib; inconsistant with the long ball. Same goes for Matt Barkley. Who would I select? It wouldn't be any of the top 6 QBs. We can live with Tavaris Jackson until next year which should be a much better year for QBs. I would select from among this group: Joeckel, Fisher, Jarvis Jones is he clears med checks, Star Lotulelei, if he clears med checks. Buffalo needs a right DE. Chance Warmack and Johnathon Cooper, two guards that will start emmediately. I know, some are against selecting guards in the first round thinking "you can always get a guard". Really? Is that why Tennessee is paying Levitre 46 Mil for six years and why Minni gave Hutchinson a poison pill contract to get him from Seattle? How good would Warmack look facing Vince Wilfork twice a year? As for receivers, look for those that Mayock says "catch everything". Size and speed mean nothing if a receiver cannot be expected to make that clutch grab. Ryan Swope in the 2nd. would be a good selection in my opinion.
  2. This in absolutely NOT a good deal. 8 -10 years in exchange for $230,000,000. in stadium improvements? This is a sh!!ty deal. 23 to 28,000,000./year to keep the Bills here. If that's the price let them walk. If this state and this county is being asked to fork over that kind of money the lease term should be 20 years at least with heavy penalties for breakage.
  3. Forget Jones. Did anyone here watch Matt Scott the Arizona QB battle USC's Barkley? Scott can throw and run and he plays with passion. The Bills would be smart to take a close look at Scott but, after his performance yesterday, I'm thinking many pro scouts will be adding the U. of Arizona's senior year QB to their "must check out" list of prospects.
  4. It's long past time for Buffalo to draft it's franchise QB. I have a name to offer; Zak Dysert, 6' 3", 228 lbs., Miami (Ohio). As I see it, there are several big name college senior QB's that everyone will be talking about such as; Geno Smith, WVU, Matt Barkley, USC, E.J. Manuel, Fla. St. The problem is that Buffalo will likely not be in a position to draft any one of these without surrendering a load of draft picks via trade up. Additionally, looking at the power rankings listed on PROFOOTBALLTALK.COM yesterday, shows that Oakland, Jacksonville, K.C., Jets, and Cowboys, all, as of now, selecting before Buffalo according to power ranking, have QB needs. Unless Dysert plays in the Senior Bowl and looks great, he may be considered a late 1st or second round pick. Who is Dysert? He has broken nearly all of Ben Roethlisberger's records at Miami of Ohio. He was named the MAC East offensive player of the week for weeks 4 and 5. He is currently ranked by NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM as the 6th best senior QB prospect. His completion percentage is about 68%. This is a player to watch, IMO, and I'm hoping Buddy is doing just that but Buddy, I'm concerned, may be spending too much time searching the SEC.
  5. 1. You're criticizing him for not starting due to injury? Failing as a starter due to lack of talent is a little different than not playing due to injury but you appear to view Troup as someone lacking talent. 2. He returns to the team as a backup behind two potential all pros and you think that's a bad thing. You just won't give this player a chance will you?
  6. My guess is that, one year from now, all of these "Spiller was a horrible pick" guys will be hiding in a closet vowing to, never again, make a WAG in a public forum.
  7. Can someone explain why Troup gets all of the hate and Marcus Easley gets all the love? Both have been injured or have had health problems. Too many at this site jump too quickly into ill conceived judgments. Both of these players, if healthy, have a chance to show some eggheads here that they're eggheads. It's summer; a time for positive thinking.
  8. Lets assume Favre sent the pics. How are the Jets involved? Did these women get canned immediately after they complained about the pics. Could Jets management really be that stupid? Never mind. They traded for Tebow. Nuff said.
  9. Part time jobs? How much could those jobs have been worth and how will they prove their loss of jobs was connected with the alleged harassment? Is it their contention they lost their jobs because they refused Favre's advances? Sounds like a difficult case to make. But, the Jets should try a settlement. Offer them $200,000. each. If they refuse, it's because this suit is about money and not about harassment. These gals see an opportunity here to gain what they could not through hard work in my opinion. In this age, when women drop the F bomb as much as men, and stay up late watching Sex In The City, it's hard to imagine them as simple minded innocents who mistakenly look a job where they did not know they would meet testosterone driven young male studs, some with questionable morals or ethics.
  10. Really? You would be satisfied with a sissy, finesse blocker (Martin) and a Guard (Glenn)? Take that OLB like David or TE Fleener in the second. Then get James Brown, OT, Troy University. Why Brown? He's a starting LT since arriving at Troy. He's the 2005 Mississippi state wrestling champion. He has long (34.5 inch) arms. As a Sophomore, started all 13 games, led his team with 66 Knockdowns and fewest sacks allowed (3.5), and fewest penalties called. Vs. Florida Atlantic, he received the highest single-game coaches grade of the year (95.3%). As a Junior, he started all 12 games, recorded nine knockdowns vs. Florida Atlantic and eight pancakes vs. Middle Tennessee. As a Senior, led team with 110 knockdown blocks while being whistled for just two penalties. The Bills like him; had him in for a visit. He is considered a 3rd. rounder. Buffalo, however, may have to move up into mid second to secure his services. I think this guy is the best true LT remaining in this draft.
  11. I hate those guys. They traded up twice in the first, got two very good defensive players, and did it without giving up their two second round picks. Now, I expect them to trade one of those seconds for a first rd. pick next year. Why do other GMs continue to feed this team with premium picks?
  12. Nice how you mentioned Clausen but left out Cincinnati Red and wasn't Flacco and Tebow in the playoffs last season? Trying too hard to make a point, perhaps?
  13. Regarding definition 6; what sort of strap-on would an interested someone use?
  14. Just curious. What is a Bupkis? Don't know if I should feel pissed or grateful for the kind word.
  15. Dupkis; "the excited feeling we're hearing about teamwide"? Dupkis; the excited feeling we're hearing about teamwide?
  16. Please explain. You think that Fitz's psychi is so fragile that having a developmental QB, someone other than Thigpen and Brad Smith, on the roster will derail his mental balance?
  17. Buddy said "win now" two years ago when he was first hired. He also said he wants to build a team that will be superbowl competitive well into the future like the Patriots and the Steelers. That means finding and developing a QB that can play in three or four years. Selecting Tannehill would not be "eating his words", it would be keeping his word. It's not a one round draft, jjmac.
  18. It's all about value. Lets say the Bills like Gilmore and Barron but they go to Miami and Carolina. Buffalo thinks Kuechly is a middle LB and have Sheppard there whom Buddy likes. What then? After Gilmore and Barron, There are no players that have that can't miss quality except DeCastro and perhaps Cox. So, unless you want to select a guard at #10 or a DT, why not Tannehill?
  19. This could absolutely, really happen. Looking at the teams picking before Buffalo, if Minni selects Claiborne, the only team ahead of Buffalo that might need a left tackle is St. Louis. St. Louis has Roger Saffold at LT. He had an impressive rookie year in 2010 but struggled somewhat last year which ended prematurely in November with a torn pectoral muscle. Does St. Louis feel he can regain his rookie form? If so, they will go for a wide receiver, which is considered their #1 priority, and Blackmon and Floyd will be available. If Minni and St. Louis passes, Buffalo will have him if they want him because none of the others picking in front of Buffalo needs a LT. Does anyone know if Buffalo had Kalil in for a visit?

  21. As we approach the draft, news is seeping out regarding how teams feel about the top players in this draft. Bill Polian, for example, does not feel that Matt Kalil is worth the 3rd pick in this draft. He doesn't have elite OT strength. He can be bull rushed. According to profootballtalk.com, Carolina loves Stephon Gilmore "a ton". Is this pre-draft smoke? Why would Polian be blowing smoke? He's now employed by ESPN. Anyway; This is how the top ten stacks up based on what I have been hearing and reading. 1. Luck, 2. Griffin lll, 3. Richardson, 4. Claiborne, 5. Barron, 6. Gilmore, 7. Kuechly, 8. DeCastro, 9. Cox, 10. Kalil. Does that mean Kalil falls to Buffalo and DeCastro is selected in the top ten? No. It just means that these players may now be thought of by GMs as the best players, regardless of position, in this draft. It also means that players like Gilmore, Barron, and Kuechly may not be there for Buffalo @ #10. With a little luck, Kalil will be selected before Buffalo and Miami will pick Tannehill, because I think Buddy is looking real hard at Gilmore and Kuechly.
  22. Would I be correct in assuming you like Floyd?
  23. Once again referencing what Kiper says about Kendricks; "Kendricks saw time at both inside and outside linebacker in the Cal defensive structure. He is a true striker, flying through the football to deliver quite a blow at impact. He has tremendous speed, clocking in the 4.4s at 240 lbs. so he comes into the draft as one of the fastest linebackers on the board. Kendricks will overpursue at times, but you have to admire his hustle and determination. This kid would run through a wall to make a stop. With his special teams experience he brings some versatility and tremendous athletic ability to a roster". How does that sound for a 2nd. rd. pick?
  24. Ah; just a wild guess but could that be because he was a rookie last year???? I think everything about Sheppard will be better and faster this year. That's the kind of thing that usually happens in a player's second year. Buddy and Chan like this player and that's good enough for me. If Buffalo selects Kuechly, my guess is that he will play the strong position. But this is really what I would like to see. I'd like to see them pick an OT or Gilmore in the first and follow that with Mychal Kendricks in the second. Kendricks, like Kuechly, is listed in the Inside Linebacker category but both can play outside according to experts. Kendricks is not the coverage LB that Kuechly is but he is a balls out thumper. He and Sheppard would be outstanding run stoppers in my opinion and Kendricks has pass rushing capabilities.
  25. Buddy is carefully blowing smoke in your eyes. He said nothing yesterday to offer any significant clue as to whom he might pick. The importance of linebackers in Wanny's D isn't that great? As James Bond said when told the blond's name, holding him captive, was Pus*y Galore, "you must be joking". Linebackers are very important in any defense.
