I'm one of Whaley's biggest critics but I actually like what they're doing so far this offseason. I like filling the roster with value FA's. Intrigued in the decision to replace the safeties. I like the WR unit way more than others do, especially if they can land the guy from the Raiders. So far so good but lots of offseason left and so much depends on how well this coaching staff will be at constructing a new foundation.

You can't put a player on your practice squad without releasing him first. He's available for other teams to sign him after he's released, then a few days later if he's still unsigned the team can sign him to the practice squad. At that point any other team can sign him to a contract to release him from the practice squad unless the team is willing to promote him to the 53 man roster.

I loved Cockrell when he was at Duke. He was a stud and I thought Bills got a steal when they drafted him in the 4th round that year. He was definitely near the bottom of the depth chart when he was with the Bills but good for him for working hard and developing into the player many thought he could be.

According to Chris Brown on the John Murphy Show yesterday, Bills GM Doug Whaley has exceeded expectations "in spades" with regard to personnel. He especially cited the Justin Hunter pickup last season as strong evidence of this. Lorenzo Alexander and Zach Brown also mentioned. What say you, Bills fan? Do we need to give more credit to Whaley for what he's accomplished during his career with the Bills? Is this roster stacked with talent and we just haven't received good enough coaching to get the appropriate production? Does the sad fact that this franchise only has two players on the current roster drafted by the Bills between 2010 and 2013 not apply to Whaley?

The Bills are now contenders because they signed a couple guys most of us have never heard of. And Russ Brandon deserves credit because he was nice to you at "the Walmarts". Only Bills fans...
