I was just fine with promoting Lynn as long as he was able to get Gus Bradley here as DC. Actually preferred it. Then Taylor could be the long-term stop-gap at the very least.
Once Lynn was hired by the Chargers it was a foregone conclusion that the offense would change and that Taylor would not be nearly as valuable. That has proven to be the case, hence why I believe we need to replace Taylor.
So Tyrod didn't elevate the VIrginia Tech offense? Brady didn't elevate the Michigan offense? The list is miles long of great college quarterbacks who were never drafted. Your statement is what is absurd.
You haven't offered any knowledge.
But saying a QB who finished 7th out of 130 teams in yards per attempt, 7th in passer rating, and whose offense finished 10th in the country in points per game compared to 100th this season after he left "never elevated his offense" is enough proof that you don't know what you're talking about.
7th in the country in passing yards per attempt.
But please, tell me about how comparing total passing yards between players from two completely different offensive systems isn't apples and oranges.
You just said Peterman never elevated his offense in college?
As a senior he was 7th in the nation in passer rating, 11th in QBR and was the signal-caller of the 10th highest-scoring offense in the nation running a pro-style system.
Where did Pitt finish in offense this season? 100th.
Not sure where your logic is coming from.
Sorry, I was referring to McDermott, not Dennison. Dven when I read and typed Dennison I saw/meant McDermott. My mistake.
Dennison may or may not be conservative, not sure - but imo he is incompetent and won't be here in 2018.
You can only hide the passing deficiencies of an NFL quarterback for so long. It's a huge credit to Greg Roman, Anthony Lynn and all of the players involved to accomplish what they did.
But even if Rex and Anthony Lynn and everyone else returned in 2017, they weren't going to repeat the same efficiency. We've seen new wrinkles in opposing defenses this season that forces a bubble around Taylor to keep him in the pocket then either collapsing it for the sack or forcing him to check down.
You actually thought that same efficiency was sustainable beyond a couple of seasons? That's cute.
Running a run-based offense that was intentionally designed to hide the deficiencies of the quarterback.
No NFL team wants to use that offense on a long-term basis.
No.
The "Dennison is conservative" contingent has still yet to acknowledge, much less explain the fact that if McDermott were conservative he would never have pulled Taylor for gunslinger Peterman.
To go a step further, Taylor would probably have already signed a contract extension to be the team's franchise QB because McDermott would love his risk-averse quarterbacking.
It's a huge contradiction.
Ravens might have the best defense in the NFL. They will finish out at least 9-7, if not 10-6.
We have to hope the Titans collapse, the Chiefs continue their losing ways and the Chargers win the AFC West.
